as some of you may know... i was filling out aplications and going to intervues for highschool all of last year... one of the schools asked for a wrighting sample with the theam of "can you hear me now?" and i decided to wright a poem. voices
I speak
But my words never reach you
I call out ‘can you hear me’
Do you try to listen
Or am I just too soft spoken
If you could hear me
Would you promise to listen?
What would happen if the quiet screamed
If the meek gained courage
If the weak gained strength
If I strengthened myself
Would you acknowledge me
Would the world listen to us?
If the hungry were fed
If the sick were cured
If the suppressed given power
If the lost were found
If the abandoned were given a home
Would the world be a better place?
I speak words
That could change the world
Do you care to listen
To the voices of the young
The new generation
The problems that we face
Problems that are our future
Do you hear us
Or are we to ‘young’ to understand?
Now that I am grown
Now that I have rights
And responsibilities
Do you here me now
Do my words finally reach you?
