Fallen Oblivion

Earth, the center between Heaven, and Hell.
Earth, where humans walk and live everyday, oblivious to the war. Not knowing of the battles between life and death.
Angels, and demons. Light and dark.
But, another thing that the humans are oblivious to, are the ones that walk among them that do not belong.
The ones who have already lived once, died, and came back. The ones who have either escaped from Hell, or who have fallen from Heaven.
The ones who are called: Fallen Angels. They either become demons, or they choose to fight to get back to where they came.

Chapter 1

March 29 12:00 am

The sun had set, and the moon had rose in the dark night sky. Just below, the city lights were bright in the town called: Oblivion. From the tall business buildings, to the small houses in cul-de-sacs, and everything in between including the small shops here and there. But the city lights weren’t the only thing lighting up the partly cloudy sky.
A bright light… Scratch that. A brilliantly bright light that could be seen miles away bulleting across the sky.
It caught my attention from out the window of my room. Yes, I was awake even at the time. It was a Saturday night and I couldn’t fall asleep. Something kept me awake, a feeling, or, it was just my insomnia. I was dressed in my pj’s, a black spaghetti strap that hugged my curves, and loose red sweats that were a tad too big. I watched as the light came nearer and nearer towards my house. Wide-eyed, I couldn’t move, even though deep inside, there was a fear that it was going to hit my home. Or room window. Either one, it would be bad.
My first thoughts were: It’s a meteorite!
Second: Wait... It’s coming towards the house...
Third: Not good, I have to do something... But what!?!?
I’m just a seventeen-year-old girl who’s small for her age, I’m fit, petite with a normal teenage body, but I can only lift three fourths of my own weight! And that’s not very much! Okay, I wasn’t strong, I didn’t know what to do, and what if it didn’t hit the house? I hoped that it wouldn’t.
The light, as I saw when it was much closer, was about three feet higher than the roof of my house. Luckily! It passed over it then veered downwards. I whipped around nearly knocking down my keyboard that was beside me, and darted out of my room. I almost tripped over all the crap on my floor. Not literal crap, just clothes and stuff. I live alone, it’s strange for a seventeen-year-old, but I do. Some would say that I just couldn’t wait one more year to live alone, but that wasn’t the case.
I turned to the right and straight ahead was my door. I stopped when my small house shook, nearly tripping over my own feet. Whatever that thing was, it had landed. I began to run again and grabbed my door knob. I tried to open it but I forgot it was locked. Man, I felt dumb, but I quickly unlocked it and swung the door open only to be slapped by the ice-cold wind that was blowing harshly outside. I wanted to retreat back into my house but I pressed forward.
Shutting the door behind me, I walked forward ignoring the chill that shot up my spine from my bare feet touching the cold cement pathway that lead to the drive way.
I rounded the corner of my house and came out to my drive way. I was frozen in my steps. Was it a meteor? Or maybe a piece of space equipment? Or a UFO? No… That would be absurd. The ground of the road that led into the cul-de-sac, had become a ten feet wide creator and smoke drifted from the edges of it. I took a daring step forward, my heart pounding as I starred at the wondrous sight. Something told me to go back inside, but another told me to take a closer look.
Common sense Vs Curiosity.
Curiosity took over.
I began to walk forward until I was at the edge of the hole; my arms were folded across my chest trying to stay warm as my short, black hair that was brushing against my that back of my neck, blew in the wind. There was something inside the hole that moved. It did, it did move and it stood up.
Now that I gave myself sometime to think, a UFO didn’t sound too bad…
My mind reeled as I watched it stand. It was a human. Wait, no... It wasn’t, it had wings. It was a guy. A Young looking guy. He looked to be seventeen or eighteen. He had light colored skin and was slender but built in the arms. His chest was bare and he had abs on his flat stomach, but his torn, old black pants looked centuries old. His black hair rested on the back of his neck and it covered his ears. He had bangs that slightly covered his eyes, like mine did.
I stared in amazement, he seemed to glow, but that wasn’t the only thing that caught my attention, his wings. His black, large, feathery, silky wings that were beginning to out stretch eight feet wide. He opened his eyes and looked at me, they were a bright ice blue. “Where am I?” He asked as his wings folded onto his back, he looked around with clenched fists, like he was expecting something to jump out at him at any given moment.
I opened my mouth to speak, but I was so astounded, I was speechless.
He looked at me again and jumped up, I watched as he came down so he was in front of me now causing me to stumble back with surprise.
I finally spoke, “Wh... Who are you?” His appearance was so amazing, so… So…
He starred at me as I crossed my arms again, shivering. “I don’t know.” He replied tilting his head to the side and looked down at himself.
So breathtaking… But how could someone not know who he or she was? Well, unless they had lost their memory, of course. But another thing bothered me, what was he? An angel? Did that explain the wings? An angel with black wings? And how he fell from the sky? How could you fall from the sky and live?
“Who…” He paused to examine me. “Are you?” He asked looking directly into my eyes.
“Oh, um...” I struggled for words. Should I? Or should I not tell him? He was a stranger, but, a fascinating one. “Mia, my name is Mia.” I replied. My voice was clear, young, but right now… Shaky. I held out my now cold hand to him.
He flinched back, “Mia.” He echoed starring at my hand.
“Do you have a name?” I asked, retreating my hand back to my body, seeing that he wasn’t used to normal greetings that normal people do. Shaking hands.
“I do not remember.” He replied and pursed his lips.
“Oh…” I looked around, “um…. Should I give you a name?” I asked.
He starred at me and raised his right brow, “give me one?”
“Only if you want me to.” I replied biting my lip as it began to snow, only making the night feel colder. “I mean, only because if I were to address you, I would not have a name to call you by.” I said quickly. “Instead of… Hey guy!… Or, boy… Or maybe even…” I was babbling nonsense. One of my nervous habits.
He blinked then nodded, “sounds reasonable.”
I let a little grin cross my face, but then I began to think. What name would suit him? I wondered. How about something that meant forgotten, or to loose consciousness, like he did. Like… Oblivion! No… That doesn’t sound normal.. How bout’… Damien? Yeah, Damien! Since he has black wings, it would only make sense! … I think…
He watched as my face lit up, a little bemused by my enthusiastic behavior.
“How about Damien?” I asked.
He shifted on his feet a little, “Damien, hmm… Doesn’t it seem…” He trailed off.
“It’s a great name.” I assured him, just now having second thoughts about it.
He sighed, “Fine, it’ll work, until I figure out who I really am.”
“Good.” I nodded then looked back at my door, “I should get back inside now.” I murmured.
“Inside of that?” He asked. He pointed to the house.
“Uh huh, it’s much warmer inside.” I replied turning and began to make my way towards the door.
Damien watched me, and then began to follow. “So you live in this… What was it called?” He asked.
“A house.” I replied simply as I grabbed the doorknob and twisted it.
“Oh yeah…” He mumbled.
Before I opened the door I turned to looked at him, “do you…” I trailed off. He fell from the sky… How could he have a home? Unless… He has somewhere he sleeps, right?
“Do I what?” He asked. That’s another thing I admired about him, not only his appearance, but his voice. It sounded intrepid, strong, like it would keep her from any harm… But, she didn’t know this… This, person, and she was sure that he would probably leave after a while.
“Have a home, like a place you can stay.” I replied trying to explain it as simply as I could.
He stared at me, “not that I can remember.” He sighed, “this is a home too?” He asked.
“Home, house, either one.” I nodded. Speaking to him was almost talking to a child. His voice and appearance may be strong and somewhat intimidating, but his mind was sort of… Infantile.
“Then I do not have one.” He said staring into my dark green eyes. Forest green, or like an emerald. (pretty!)
I thought for a moment. If he has no home, he doesn’t know the area, and if he doesn’t know the area, no one knows about him Therefore, if someone finds him, they’ll either kill him or do painful testing on him… I paused. Well, I don’t know about the painful testing stuff, I just saw it on TV one day… But it would be practical suicide for himself if he goes off on his own. So why not just…
I turned and opened my door, “you can come inside if you want, unless you want to go on your own, but…” I turned my head and looked up at him, “if someone finds you, it could be the end of your life.” I didn’t know if he would believe me, or not, but it was his decision. Not mine.
Damien blinked, “you mean that they’ll kill me if they find me?” He asked, “then does that mean you’ll kill me too?”
I sighed, “no, but other people may.” I walked inside, “it’s hard to find people who are kind now days.”
He hesitated but then took a step forward, “I’ll trust you, since you seem harmless.”
I looked away and narrowed my eyes, “fine.” I tried to stay sincere. But, I had to admit, someone like him was very observant. Well, anyone would’ve said that, since I’m small… And I couldn’t run from the truth.
When he walked in, I closed the door behind him. He walked around and examined everything, keeping his wings folded.
I, on the other hand, raced into my room quickly.
Damien turned and watched me go, confused on why, yet surprised, on how fast I had moved.
The house, well, the living room where Damien was, is small. It had one long couch facing the right where a TV stood about eight feet away against that wall. On top of the TV was a small picture with five people. Beside the TV’s stand was nothing other than a stereo on the right sitting on top of a small bookshelf.
The left wall was a small kitchen with a sink, stove, and fridge. Beside the kitchen, and also on the left wall, was a four sided table with two chairs.
Down the hall where I had run off, is a hall. But on the left side of the hall was my room, and on the right where a bathroom and a laundry room would be.
And that’s my house.
I came back out into the living room with a blanket wrapped around my body. “Well, that kept me awake… Not that I would’ve fallen asleep anyways.” I mumbled and walked into the kitchen and flicked on the light switch.
Damien fallowed me to see what I was going to do, “are you cold?” He asked.
He may not know where and who he is, but at least he knew how to talk and what things are… Well a couple things. “Yup.” I nodded and reached over for my coffee pot.
He looked at himself then at me, “am I cold?” He asked.
I turned to face him, coffee pot in my hand. “I don’t know, is your body cold? Are you shivering?” I then walked over to the sink and placed the pot under the faucet to wash out the last remaining coffee that was still inside.
Damien felt his chest with his hand and looked confused, “I don’t feel anything.” He muttered.
I walked over to him and stared closely at his skin, he didn’t have goose bumps. “You don’t look cold.” I said and looked back up at him.
He then took my hand and pressed it against his chest, “am I?” He asked.
My face flushed a little but when he grabbed my hand, his was cold, and now that I was touching his chest, that was cold too. “Um… Yeah.” I replied then pulled my hand away. “But, I don’t think I have a shirt that would fit you.” In fact, I don’t… If I let him wear one of my shirts, he’ll probably fit in it after it’s been torn and stretched out .I blinked at the thought that entered my head of him trying to put on one of my shirts.
“Then where do you get shirts?” He asked.
“The store…” She said bluntly. “ The store!” My face lit up again and I snapped my fingers, then walked over to the sink to dump out the water in the now clean pot. I was also… A little slow sometimes… Most of the time… Let’s just say… The wheel in my head didn’t function properly sometimes… “We can go to the store and get you some shirts…” I nodded, “But I do think that I still have my brothers jacket that’s way too big for me, so no one will see your wings.” I filled the pot with water again and walked over to the coffee maker.
“I see, so I shouldn’t let people know what I am?” He asked.
I nodded then poured the water into the coffee maker then put grinded coffee bean power inside the holder. “Yeah, but…” I put the holder back into the coffee make and turned it on, “what are you exactly?” I asked turning to face him again.
Damien shrugged. “I’m just someone with wings.” He replied.
I stared at him blankly, “an angel.”
“An angel?” He sounded confused, like he’d never heard the word before.
“Yeah.” I looked around and walked into the living room. “Here, I’ll read the definition of an angel to you so you can understand.” I knelt down in front of the bookshelf and looked for a dictionary.
Damien fallowed and stood behind the couch.
“Ah.” I grabbed a red book and stood to my feet then turned to face him. I flipped it open and looked for the word ‘angel’. “Here’s what it means: A messenger from God, a supernatural being with greater power than human power… An image of a human figure with wings and a halo...” I closed the book and looked at him. “But you don’t have a halo, just wings.” I reached up and scratched my head.
“Messenger of God….” He mumbled.
I stared at him then turned to put the book back. God… Heh, I had stopped believing such things three years ago, when I had begun to live on my own.
“So I’m an angel.” He said looking at me.
I stood after putting the book away and nodded. “Yup. An angel with black wings…” I looked at him, “but if you are what the dictionary had said, then there must be a reason that you’re here.” I then began to walk back towards the kitchen to check on the coffee.
He turned and fallowed, “if I had a reason, then I’m sure that I would remember what it was.”
“I guess that’s why you need to refresh your memory, somehow…” I reached up into a cabinet where there was a mug. I pulled it out and placed it in front of the coffee pot.
Damien looked around the house then over at the TV. He walked over to it.
I poured the coffee into the mug and leaned back to watch what he was going to do.
Damien stared at the picture, examining the five people smiling happily in the summer scenery.
I walked over to him and took a sip of my black coffee, “that’s my family.” I said standing beside him and stared at the picture as well.
He picked it up and looked at it closely. “Family.” He whispered.
“Yup, my mom, dad, brother, Sister and I.” I replied while taking another sip of the coffee.
My hair was longer then, and my bangs were split to the left side. My mother had short brown hair and icy blue eyes. My dad had black hair and brown eyes. My brother , who was older than me, hand chestnut brown hair and hazel eyes. And my sister, the youngest, had short black hair and greens eyes. Like me. We were very close, in fact, I sometimes treated her like she ‘was’ my daughter.
“Where’s your family now?” Damien asked looked at me as he set the picture back on top of the TV.
I shrugged, “I don’t know…” I honestly didn’t. I mean, after you die, you go somewhere, right? In the ground? Well, your body does…
He then looked at my coffee. “What is that?” He asked. Obviously he smelt it’s strong fragrance.
“Coffee, do you want some?” I asked lifting the mug up offering it to him. I only had one mug, since I never expected having company. Never.
He cautiously took the mug into his hands and looked at the dark liquid.
“Careful, it’s hot.” I warned him as he was about to lift it to his lips.
He put the mug to his lips and began to drink it, showing no signs of pain from how hot it was. Instead, he continued to drink it, until it was gone. Not even scowling at its strong flavor.
I stared at him, wide-eyed. “You…”
He pulled the mug from his mouth while licking his lips and looked at me, “it’s alright.” He said and offered the mug back to me.
I took it and looked inside, all the coffee was gone. “Wow…” I mumbled and began to walk back into the kitchen. He drank that faster than I can even eat a piece of corn. I thought then shook my head. Okay… Maybe not that fast… But I ‘was’ a slow eater.
“So, are we going to a, store?” He asked.
I nodded, “yeah.” I set the mug in the sink, turned off the coffee maker, and faced him, “I’ll go get the jacket.” I then walked towards my room.
Damien fallowed.
I opened my door and turned on the light. All on the floor were shirts and jeans, underwear and bras. My face flushed quickly and I closed the door.
“What’s wrong?” Damien asked.
“Um…” I fought for an answer in my head, “m… My room’s a disaster and I- I don’t think you should have to walk through it.” I said quickly.
“Oh, I don’t mind.” Damien replied, “all we need is a jacket, right?” He asked.
I nodded, “uh huh…” I sighed and opened my door again. Cautiously, I walked inside and began to look around for the jacket, it was probably in my closet.
Damien looked around and didn’t seem to know everything that ‘was’ on the floor. I was somewhat glad he had lost some of his memory, unless this would have been a very awkward moment for us both.
My room was small as well, but it was big enough to at least sleep in. The bed was against the north and east wall, practically in that corner. My keyboard was on the north wall just below the window that I stare out of all the time. There was a dresser on the west and north wall’s corner, and a desk beside it. To the right on the east wall was a small table where a lamp was lit. That’s the light that comes on when the light switch is flicked. And on the south wall, to the right, was my closet.
I walked up to my closet, opened it, and pulled out a black long coat then a large gray coat with a logo on the front. “Here.” I threw the gray coat at Damien and put on the long coat that lingered down just above my ankles.
Damien caught the jacket and looked at it, “are you sure it’s big enough?” He asked.
“There’s only one way to find out.” I replied, “put it on.”
He put one arm through, then the other then pressed his wings closer to his back so it didn’t look too abnormal. He then looked at me, “is it alright?”
I nodded and walked up to him, “do you know how to zip it?” I asked. I secretly wanted to do it myself, but then I hoped that he knew.
He looked down at where the zipper was and grabbed it, “no.” He replied.
My heart leaped joyfully but I kept myself from smiling, “here, I’ll do it for you.” I reached up with my trembling hands, that I couldn’t control, and grasped the zipper. “All you do, is this.” I showed him how to put one side of the zipper, into the other, then pull it up. I stopped half way. “You can pull it all the way up if you want.”
Damien stared at me then he took the zipper and pulled it up some more.
“Now let’s go.” I turned off he light and made my way down the hall again.
Damien fallowed, but kept zipping the zipper up and down. Zip, zip, zip…
I glanced over my shoulder and grinned at how it amused him, “do you mind walking?” I asked. I didn’t own a car, only a bike but knowing the weather now, it’s probably frozen.
“No.” He replied.
“Alright.” I turned off all the lights and walked over to the door where my black shoes lay. I slipped them on then wrapped my coat over my chest before opening the door. Lucky for Damien, he wasn’t effected by the cold. I was. And unfortunately for me, I was a bit… Anemic, therefore, my blood wasn’t thick, and that way, I always seemed to be cold.
I waited for Damien to walk out before closing the door. We rounded the edge of the house and there I saw the creator and police cars with their flashing lights surrounding it. My neighbors were talking to some officers and there were men in white coats examining the creator. Crap… I thought and looked away as we walked by.
“What are they doing?” Damien asked.
“Look away, don’t stare too long. People around here don’t know about you.” I said quietly, “one of the neighbors probably called the police when they found out about it.” I saw a woman look up and point to me. An officer glanced then nodded.
Damien looked down at me, “she’s saying that she saw you down here when it landed.” He whispered, “but she ran off to call the police before I had came out.”
I looked up at him, amazed by how he heard them, “let’s walk faster.” I said keeping my arms crossed. My face was becoming numb from the wind and I felt tears come to my eyes from how cold it was.
“They’re coming…” Damien whispered.
Just as he finished his sentence, a couple of officers came running towards us. I stopped and turned when I heard their footsteps approach. “Excuse me!” It was a man’s voice, “may I have a word with you.” I could see him better now that he was closer. A sturdy-built man with short brown hair. And of course, he was wearing a police uniform.
The other was younger, about eighteen years old who had long blonde hair and his blue eyes seemed to glow a little from the partial moonlight. And he also, was wearing a police uniform.
“Oh, good morning Mr. Newman.” I said looking up at the older man.
“Morning, Mia.” Mr. Newman nodded to her.
“Good morning Josh.” I then looked at Blondie who was looking at Damien.
“Morning.” He mumbled.
Mr. Newman shifted on his feet, “Well, by the things that I’ve been told, you were the first to come and see this… Thing.” He said then glanced at Damien.
I nodded while brushing my bangs to the side, “that’s true.”
“Well, we have scientist on the scene trying and figure out exactly what had fallen from the sky.” He took out a little pad and a pen. “So, when you approached the creator, what did you see?”
Josh was staring at me. Honestly, I liked him as a friend, but he liked me more and when he admitted it to me, I sort of… Rejected him. And so, he always waited for chanced to try and impress me or some sort just to get my attention. What part of ‘just friends’, didn’t he get?
“Well, I saw nothing but fire, smoke, and an empty hole in the ground.” I replied simply.
Mr. Newman wrote down what she said.
“How’d you know that it had landed?” Now Josh asked the question.
I looked at him and smiled. What I was about to say was not true, but it would make them go away. “Well, me and my boyfriend here, were um… Enjoying each others company in my room when I saw a light flicker through my window. I got up and said, ‘let’s go check it out’, but Damien didn’t want to go out into the cold so I went by myself.” I was such a great liar, “I got dressed and checked it out only to be disappointed by the fact that nothing was there.” I looked up at Damien, “isn’t that right?” I gave him a, ‘just-nod-and-agree-with-me’ look.
Damien nodded, “yup.”
Mr. Newman’s eyes were sort of wide as I explained and he felt a little uncomfortable writing it down, “alright, then that’s all we needed.”
Yes… My plan had worked! After so many years of lying, I felt no guilt from it. Was that a bad thing?
Josh looked away with pursed lips, he obviously didn’t like my explanation.
“Well, have a good rest of the day.” Mr. Newman nodded and with that, they left.
I turned and began to walk away with a satisfied smile across my face, “that was easy.”
“Boy friend? What’s that?” Damien asked and looked down at me.
I blinked and folded my arms across my chest again, “um… A boy, that’s a friend… But with benefits I guess you could say.” I shrugged.
Damien looked ahead and nodded, “oh.” I didn’t think that he fully understood what I meant, but he didn’t ask anything more.
After a while, we got to the store. Thankfully, not too many people were there one o’clock in the morning, so it was easy to get what we needed, then get out. No questions asked… Other than: “What size do you wear?”
