Chapter 10- In a Flash

The kissed lasted only a while, but I was sure it felt like forever for Maya and Jason. Maya pulled away, to take a breath of air, I guessed, and Jason leaned in to kiss her again, but she pushed away. I paused, but kept fluttering around, with my fellow fireflies. I hoped everything was okay.

"What's wrong?" he sounded hurt, but Maya just shook her head.

I remembered when Maya told me about the villages, especially the Fire village. They have a policy, or a law, that says something around the lines, that the men from the fire village can only date and merry those who come from the Fire village. I sighed, and Jason started storming away. I quickly flew to where the door was, or where I thought the door was, and hit my head on the wood.

"Dammit" I thought to myself, and found the doorway

I went inside, and shifted back, running back outside, and stood next to Maya. I was pissed at her.

"What happened?! You two are perfect for each other and you just told him to leave?!" I yelled at her. I couldn't believe it!

"He'll have to go back to the village soon... and I really don't deserve him." She replied slowly, as if each word would destroy the world

"Excuse me?! Did you hit you head or something? I bet he'd stay-" I was about to argue, but I was cut of by Maya

"Like mom would of stayed?" she interrupted, and gave me a glare, making me feel very small.

"I don't want to take him away from his family and friends like the beasts took mom away, even if it hurts so much. It's almost the same thing." She explained to me, and walked into the bed room, lieing down on her futon. No. No, it was not the same thing. I sighed and followed her into the room. I put myself onto my own futon, falling asleep instantly.

I woke up early this morning. I completely remembered what happend last night, and I wanted to bring Jason back for Maya. I took a few glances at Maya, and her tear stained face, and headed outside. This was actually a very good location; it hardly ever rained, and when it did, we get to stay inside, and just hang out. It was pretty cool. We sometimes got to make friendship bracelets, not that we will ever need them, but it was fun to do, none the less. I walked to my circle, and shifted into a blue bird. This was much quicker than walking. I flew above the trees, and looked at the ground for any moving objects. After a while, I saw something sitting on a rock, and I flew down. I could only hope it was Jason. I flew down, and landed in front of the object.. Well, person. But not just any person. I had found Jason. He looked shocked, as I stared at him. I smiled, not that he could tell, and I took a few steps away from him, and shifted back to my regular self. He seriously looked like his heart was malfunctioning .

"What?" I asked, giving him a disbelieve look.

"W-what the hell?" he replied, standing up. He was actually very tall.

"Haha, never mind" I reached for the top of his head, and gave it a few pats, and he glared at me, but dropped the subject. I wondered what color his hair was. I walked a couple steps away from him, and turned around to face him. I had to get this right down to the point. I took a breath.

"Are you, Jason, mad at Maya?" I asked, and stared at him, as if I could read his mind.

"N-No, not at all!" He cried, and looked at me like I had gone insane.

"Why'd you leave last night, then? She was crying the whole night!" my voice was getting higher with each word I said, and I took a shaky breath. I don't want to see my sister sad anymore.

"She was crying!?" he looked like he was going to cry himself.

"Yes." I simply replied

"I-I left because... I thought she didn't want me.." His voice became very quiet, like a whisper, and he sat back on the rock, placing his head between his legs.

"No, she loves you! I haven't seen her this happy since four years ago!"

"And I love her too.." He mumbled. I barely heard it.

I looked up at the sky, and estimated the time to be about noon.

"Jason, I have to get back home. Maya will probably be worrying, but you stay here, okay? I have a plan, but you have to be here, for it to work" I could only hope Maya knew her way around the forest. I placed a silver butterfly on his shoulder, and he looked at me oddly

"If anything happens to you, the butterfly will come back to me. Just in case you get hurt in some way." He just nodded, and looked at the butterfly again. I turned around, a took a few steps

"Oh, here" I put my hand into my bag, and I passed him a few rolls, that I had kept from dinner the other night, wrapped around in a large leaf. I could never remember the name of the leafs. He looked at them oddly, and started unwrapping them. He took a few bites, and just gave me a small nod. I smiled back, and shifted back into a blue bird, earning me another disbelieved look. I flew off in the direction of the waterfall. I figured that's where Maya would be.

I flew between the trees, twirling in the light beams, that shone through the trees. Maya would be so pleased. I can't believe I found Jason. I smiled, as I approached the waterfall. I landed behind a tree, and I took a few hops, so I could see her. I stared in horror as all I could see was Lin, scratched and on the ground, almost uncontentious. Maya was standing above him, about to stab him. I shifted back to my regular self, and I noticed that my eyes were wet with tears.

"MAYA DONT!" I cried to her, but it was too late. My sister had stabbed him.
