Footsteps(Ch.17)
Chapter 17- Footsteps

I let out a loud sob, as I couldn't take in everything that just happend. Lin let go of me and I already felt colder. He wiped some of the tears from my face, frowning at how sad I looked.

"Candace, calm down, everything is going to be okay" he said trying to help make me feel better.

I nodded my head a few times, but that didn't stop the tears. He enclosed me in a hug sitting in the same position as I was, placing his head lightly on mine. I don't know what to think anymore. Maya probably accepted the wizard as our father, but I'm not sure if I do. It's not right that he just dropped all of this on us, after sixteen or seventeen years. I took a deep inhale, and a loud exhale, trying to force all of my emotions out. It actually worked pretty well. I put my head on his shoulder, as his head bobbled a little, but went back onto mine. A few of my tears were now running onto his shirt. I looked down at where his stomach wound was and saw the shirt was ripped.

"How is you injury?" I asked, wiping my eyes. He glanced down at his shirt.

"It feels alot better" he replied to me, smiling.

"Are you feeling better?" he asked, as I lifted my head up to look at his face. He then poked my nose, and grinned.

"AH!" I yelled, snapping my head back down in shock. I turned around to face him, and gave him a glare.

"Hey, don't give me that face now" he pulled my closer, kissing my head. I gave him a smile, and looked at the trees in the distance

"Yeah, I guess so" I turned back to look at him, and our eyes locked instantly. If there was a time that I could see in color, now would be one of those times. It felt like I staring into his eyes for hours, although it had realistically only been a few seconds. I quickly dragged my eyes away, looking at the ground. My heart started to beat faster and my face felt it like was burning.

"You sure blush alot don't you?" Lin asked me, rubbing my head with his hand

"N-No!" I felt my face get even hotter. He just grinned at me, as if he had won a contest. I placed my right hand on my chest over my heart, and felt how fast my heart was beating. It felt like the whole world could hear it.

"I was made fun by most boys when I was younger.." I trailed off. I didn't really want to talk about my past.

"..You have very nice green eyes" He changed the subject, seeing my discomfort. I shifted my body to lean my back on his shoulder, and I gave him a few nods.

"Thanks. Although Maya is the lucky one. She got the blue eyes" I thought of the time where Maya and I bickered over our eyes, and who's was prettier.

"Despite it all, we don't argue that much about things like that. Considering we have the same eye color" I turned to face him, and gave him a smile.

"How old, do you think you were.. when that happend?" He asked me cautiously.

"When my dad left?" I asked. He gave me a guarded nod

"Mm.. I think I was two, and Maya was three" I counted the numbers in the head, making sure the number was right.

"Oh.. I'm sorry" He looked like he had greatly upset me.

"No, it's fine. I've had my whole life to get over it, and I have." He looked even more hurt, and I gave a laugh.

"Don't worry about it Lin." I gave him a pat on the head, showing I wasn't sad.

"Hey Lin, I was wondering something" I curled the end of my dress with my fingers

"Hmm?"

"Why did you come by here, anyway?"

"Oh, um. I heard the rumors about the demons living here, and wanted to see for myself" He sounded like he was trying to cover up something.. I scrutinized his face

"Lieing" My voice rang as I said the word and he looked appalled. I gave him a small wink.

"Now, tell me the real reason" I prompted

"..My dad wanted me to look for you guys.. Since he can't leave the castle" he tried to sound casual.

"Oh.. I see.. Why didn't you capture us, then?" I asked while playing with a few pieces of hair that stood up from his head

"Your family intrigued me.. I knew the wizard was your dad, even though I didn't know you, or your sister... Then I saw you in this field, transform from a butterfly to human, and I knew I had found the rest of your torn family." I stayed silent, as I didn't know how to reply to that

"Oh.. What about my mom, then?"

"When I went back to the castle, when those men who came by a while back, I saw her. Lets say, you both look a lot like your mother"

"So then, she really is under the grasp of your father?" I squeezed my eyes together, trying to get the thought through my head. He gave me a slow nod as his answer.

"Dammit. Why is this family so messed up?" I questioned the sky.

"Hey, mine's not much better" he replied, also looking at the cloud-less sky

"..I guess we should go back now?" I asked him, standing up.

He quickly stood up, and held out his hand, intending me to take it. I grabbed it, slightly tripping on my dress. I made a mental note to have Maya to hem this dress. I looked deep into the forest, and heard foot steps

"Lin.. Do you hear that?" I asked him quietly. He looked at me as if I had gone insane

"Hear what?" He brought his voice as quiet as mine was

".. Your friends in black" I joked. He looked at me with one raised eyebrow.

"Never mind. Follow me" I said hushed, ignoring the stare he gave me. I quickly ran to the middle of the meadow, with Lin right behind me.

"Candace! They'll see us even more if we're in the middle of this open meadow" He stopped running, to turn around to look at the spot from where we came, and turned back around to see that I had disappeared.

"Down here!" I poked my head up from a low ditch, and he quickly jumped in.

"I doubt they'll see us here." I whispered knowingly.

The ditch was honestly like a meter deep. He was about to ask me a question, but I hushed him by putting my first finger on his lips, and looked into his eyes for a second. I heard the steps run near by where we were sitting previously, but disappeared soon after.

"Stay here" I mouthed to him, and changed to a blue butterfly, and flew quickly into the forest, to see where the men were now.

"Maya, we have scouts in the area." I warned her

"Yeah, I know. She replied back, and I flew back to the meadow as I didn't see them anywhere. I only hope that they didn't see the hut.

"Don't get caught" I joked to her

"Your such a pain sometimes" She replied back. I could imagine her rolling her eyes at me.

I flew back to the middle of the meadow, landing on Lin's shoulder. He stroked my wings a couple times, and I flew to the ground next to him, shifting back to my regular self.

"I think their gone"

"How did you hear them?" he asked at me, surprised

"I don't know, I just do?" I paused to think for a second

"Maybe it's because, since I lost my eye sight, my other senses got stronger?" I had never really thought about it that much. There was a pause.

"Lin, why didn't you go with them?" I asked, looking at his face

"What? You told me to say here, so I did"

"I know that, but I mean.. You could of gone with them, since it was your soldiers, or what ever you call them. They were probably looking for you, anyway." I closed my eyes and shrugged.

"So then, you want me to leave?" He stood up, and looked down at me. He looked quite mad. I quickly stood up, the ditch now reaching at my stomach.

"What? No! I don't!" He quickly got out of the ditch, and I followed him, hooking my hand into his.

"If you want me to leave, I can." He started walking away, pulling his hand out of mine

"So this is what I get for loving-" I cut myself off, and turned away. I doubt he wanted to hear this now.

I started walking back towards the ditch, fuming. Why was I always so emotional? I jumped back into the ditch, huddling my body to myself. It was cold, meaning it was probably going to get dark soon. I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for Lin to leave, so I could go back to the hut. I suddenly heard a thump, and opened my eyes in alarm, to see a dark pair of legs. I looked up at the face, and saw Lin look at me curiously.

"You love what?" he asked, still looking down at me.

"..Nothing" I tried to lure him off the topic.

"No. Tell me"

"It's fine, Lin"

"Candace, you were about to say something, so finish it off" He sat down next to me crossed legged, looking at my face. I turned my head the other way, looking at the end of the ditch.

"No." I felt like a three year old, who didn't want to eat her vegetables.

I gave a half smile at the thought, and turned my head to face Lin. His face was a few inches away from mine, much closer than before. I started at him wide eyed in shock, as my heart was beating loudly and my face felt hot, as if it was burning. He gently grabbed the sides of my head, as I was looking into his large, colorless, brown eyes. I felt my face get hotter with each passing second as he stared at my face, almost as if he was zooming in. I closed my eyes as he brought his lips onto mine. I opened them again, to see Lin look at my eyes, and I couldn't help but smile at him. It felt like hours passed by, and it just felt so.. right, like we were made for each other. I kissed him back, wrapping my arms around his neck, almost knocking him to the ground. He pulled away from me, getting a breath of air, but didn't stop looking into my eyes.

"Tell me." He pestered again, smiling just as much as I was

"Lin, I love you" I enclosed him in a hug, burring my red face into his chest. .

"I love you too, Candace" he replied back, as he brought my head back up, planting another kiss on my lips.

It felt absolutely wonderful to have him all to myself... Even if he is the son of the Dark lord. I brought body onto his lap and lifted my head, kissing him. It felt like my stomach was doing summer salts, I felt so happy. I pulled away and shifted my body, so I could lean my back into his chest, smiling.

"Did I ever mention how cute you look when you blush?" he gave me a grin as I looked up at his face again. I scrunched my nose at him, causing him to laugh.

I stared into his eyes, until I realized I could hardly see at all. "I think we should actually go back now." I stated bluntly.

"Yeah" I got off him, and turned around to face him, as he also got up.

He climbed up first, and helped me lift myself onto the higher ground. I gave him a smile as my thanks. He smiled back, and started walking into the forest. He held out his hand behind him, so I could take it again. I quickly hurried to grab it and walked next to him, as we headed back to the hut. It was finally dark, as we were about three quarters through the forest and I couldn't see an inch in front of me.

"Lin.." I spoke quietly

"Yes?" I felt him stopping and turning to look at me.

"I can't see anything" I felt my eyes water. Maya and I hate not being able to see anything. I wiped my eyes with my hands, and grabbed Lin's hand again.

"It's okay Candace, we're almost there" I gave him a few nods, and kept on walking as he held my hand, while telling me where to place my feet.

"Okay, take a large step up" I lifted my foot, and moved it a few inches in front, and stepped down. We were at the hut. I went inside, wanting to be able to see again. I felt relieved, being able to see again, and I let go a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Candace! Where were you!?" Maya yelled loudly. "You know you're supposed to be back before sunset!" She cried at me, and I took a breath.

"I'm fine, arn't I!? I'm home!" I yelled back, and started walking towards the bedroom. I probably wasn't allowed to eat anyway. Lin and Jason stared at us, shocked at the change of mood. Lin was about to follow me, but Maya stopped him.

"You go to your room, Lin" Maya commanded him. I rolled my eyes. Such a mother. I took a step into the room and I turned around quickly facing the door. This wasn't good.

"Maya.. I hear foot steps"
