Denizen of the Deep
A denizen in chains I had once been. An underwater kingdom left without a king. A puppet-king made of the slain king’s brother by a witch-woman’s conspiracy. And my lot to slavery for a crime I did not commit. Regicide or patricide? Take your pick, I did not kill my beloved king. But somehow the people believed it, cast under the net of her spell, ensnared in the lies. Twenty years a prisoner by guilt though only ten in iron. I should have seen it coming. I should have known. Ten years and I was free of slavery. But ten years I’ve slaved to build an army. I will re-take what never should have been stolen. I will wreak vengeance on those who have wronged me. I will have a kingdom that should be mine two times a decade ago. I will free a people too long oppressed. By my trident, by my magic, through my will and my heart I will take back what my father built, his underwater kingdom. Still I’ll be a denizen of the deep, but with a crown upon my head instead of fettered in chains.
