All things are relative to other things, this is true to everything of existance. All things we do are based on reasons, even if they're subconsious and so insignificant that one doesn't realise them. Humans do things in order to reach other goals. For example a person might go to sleep earlier so they can be more awake the next day to take a test, they try to do good on the test to get a good grade and get into a good collage, they get into a good collage to get a good job, they get a good job to get more money, which will lead to having a better life. Each thing is done to reach a higher goal creating purpose for one's self. But this purpose and reason is only relative to a person on a small scale. Through out history people have wondered what was the purpose of life, but relative to all of existance there is no purpose in anything. Everything relative to humanity is completely pointless compared to existance because we are mere specks of dust on specks of dust in this universe alone. This universe is just one out of a huge number of universes in on multiverse, this multiverse is just one in and infinite spand of space that has an infinite multiverses and an infinite universes. Relative to infinity we are infinately insignificant and pointless. More so by the fact that after everything anyone does it is eventually erased and forgotten through the passing of time. This planet shall eventually cease to exist as well so everything that we thing of important enough to have reason is ephemeral and short lived. It is quite impossible to comprehend the scale of existance and most don't even realise it, so there is still purpose and reason in our lives and society. We all give things purpose because they pertain to ourselves, that is the true purpose of purposes. So we do things instead of living in absolute apathy, we must give reason to things so we try to advance and reach standards or goals that interest us.
