-As the sun was high in the sky, it seemed to smile upon the hustle and bustle of the market row. Traders from fruits to jewelry to simple things such as fruit lined the dirt street and yelled out to the shoppers. Gracefully, weaving in and out of the mesh of bodies was what appeared to be a simple man upon glance.
Reaching well over six-foot, the man appeared no more than about twenty-years of age, even though the calluses on his faded-leather colored hands and his matching muscular upper body told a different tale. Absent-mindedly, he reaches up and tuck an astray strand of his ear-length, straight blonde hair behind his ear as he tries to get past a elderly couple of ladies. Honestly, he seemed normal clad in knee-length, dark brown slacks. That is until his eyes were seen, the unnatural hue of blood-red making his appearance switch to being instantly startling.
After escaping the dense areas of the crowd, he focuses his attention on the stand in front of him. Ah, lovely. he marveled mentally as he reached out to faintly touch the elegant painting in front of him. A fair damsel, one that would only be alive in fairy-tales sadly enough. His baritone-like voice rings slightly as he attempts to get the attention of the busy merchant in front of him.-
A ‘SMACK’ came as he came to a stop with trying to get the attention of the merchant, a young girl ran right into him with a yelp. She stumbled back and fell to the ground backwards dropping the bag she had in her hands. She was a skinny little bit only about 5'2 and barely was over 100 pounds. At first glance she looked like she might be a boy. With her hair hidden in a hat she wore and the baggy shirt that had to be at least three sizes to big. Dirty was smudged all over her face and any bare skin that showed.
Her mess of long black hair was tucked up under her hat. Pale fearful blue eyes look up at him. Her whole body trembling as she sat there stunned by the blow. She wore a tan short sleeved dirty shirt and pair of black pants that had a rip in each knee, lastly a pair of brown sandals. " Sorry." She said in a squeak as she looked over her shoulder seeing two large men running after her. She gathered her bag and got up again. " Get back here you wench! " One man yell as he spotted the young urchin. " Leave me alone!" She yelled at him. The man who had yelled ducking a sudden out of nowhere a fire ball went right for him sent by the girl. She was a fire mage.. though a poorly trained one at that. With this for them to deal with she turned about and started to run stumbling as she went.
-In the mass confusion with the appearance of the strange girl and the sudden fireball. His crimson orbs narrow slightly as his knight-like instinct kicks in, telling him to protect the girl first and to ask questions later. Taking a split second, he tries to memorize the fire-mage's aura before turning back to the two goons.
Fogging their minds temporarily, he uses their brief confusion to go up behind the pair and shove a thumb into each of their neck-line pressure points. Slowly, the two men drifted peacefully to the ground and he stood back up. Next order of business was to find that girl who ran into him and see what the hell she was running from. Walking in the general direction she ran off, he gracefully slipped his hands into his pockets while his eyes scanned for her familiar aura.-
The young girl ducked into a alley way not far away and double over trying to catch her breath. Her hat had slipped off some as she ran and her long dark hair had fallen in her face. " I think I lost them." She said softly with a thick but beautiful accent that wasn't from around here, coughing slightly as she tried to catch her breath. She sunk down to where she was sitting on the ground dropping her bag next to her. She toyed with a gold pendent that hung around her neck that had a sign of some noble house.
-As he scanned the air, he soon picked up on the traces of her aura and started to head down the lines of the walls. Pausing for a moment, his fancy is caught as the fruit vendor reminded him that his stomach had not been appeased since two nights ago. Fishing trough his pocket, he pulls out a silver coin and soon continues his hunt with two luscious red apples resting in a brown sack. Arriving at the alleyway of his mysterious mage, he glances in to spot her sitting against the wall and spies the identical sack next to he. Gently, his deep voice rings in the ally as he leans his shoulder against the entry way wall, " So, a fire mage in our simple town? To what do we owe the pleasure of you stealing our wares?" he asks a bit cockily, adding a small smirk to it.-
She hadn't heard him coming up was busy trying to gather her self and think of what her next move was. She looked up hearing his voice and stood up quickly stumbling back and falling over her back. She fell down looking up at him scared to death. " I didn't steal again! These are the things I traveled here with! " She snapped at him slowly pushing her self up. She took off her hand and twisted her hair up. She put her hat on tucking the free locks of hair under her hat. " Now please leave. " She told him hiding the pendent quickly.
-Thanking the gods she didn't steal anything, relief washed over him and it actually lightened up his features. His smirk drifted to a small smile as he pushed himself off the wall and started to undo the small knot on top of his bag. A small chuckle escaped his throat and it faded gently into his question, "A bit thirsty from your chase?" Eying her neck, he allowed a odd observation to ring in his mind, Hmmm... She's hiding something, must be important or valuable.. Fishing around in it for a moment, he pulls out one of the juicy apples he purchased and tosses it at the raven haired beauty.-
She grabbed the apple and bit into quickly chewing on the bit of apple very hungry. She hadn't eaten two days with all the traveling she had done. '" Thanks, now who are you? I don't want any trouble. "She told him shouldering her bag over her shoulder. Her eyes never leaving him as she took another bit of the apple. She seemed nervous and ready to run at the first chance she had if he tried anything.
-Seeing that his suspicion of her hunger was correct couldn't help but bring a small smile to his lips. Caught up in the fight and the chase, it was true that he had forgotten his manners and they were never properly introduced. Allowing the gentleman to show out of him, he bows slightly and lowers his head a bit. Traces of his French accent seeped through his words, showing that he was not from the area." My apologies Madam, I am Alexandrus Ravine. I work in the city here." Straightening back up, his crimson orbs settle on her crystal-blue ones and a small, slightly goofy smirk crosses his lips before he asked, " And who may you be? "-
She ate more at her apple her hunger getting the better of her and she let out her guard down some. She watched him as he bowed and spoke his name. " It is a pleasure to meet you. " She told him eating the last two bites of her apple and threw the core aside. " My name? you may call me Ash. Just Ash will do and that’s all you need to know about me. " She told him touching the spot at her shirt where he pendent was hidden under.
- She had just confirmed it, she was hiding something but what had still yet to be decided. In an attempt to stall her departure, he picked up his bag and tried to tempt her. "It seems that you were hungry, but I doubt a measly apple could satisfy you that easily. I had not eaten in days, would you like to join me for some supper Miss Ash? My treat." For the sake of his curiosity, he hoped she would accept. Behind closed lips, he had to resist the urge to lick his razor canines at the thought of his last 'meal'. No, he wouldn't take her blood, just information tonight.-
She watched the bag as he picked up. She sighed and looked down putting a hand on her stomach which growled loudly. " I'd love to but I can't... Those are only some of the few who chase me. I can't stay here for long. They will be after me soon. " She told him shoulder the bag tighter to her and started to walk past him with out another word.
-Stretching out his arm, he rests his palm against the opposite wall while he tries to persuade her a bit more," But I took care of your pervious pursuers, I think I could handle any others. If you're that spooked though, we could always get away from the vendors and pick up some food from my town house?" Looking down at her, he tried his best to make his aura seem softer." Also, I have a spare room to where you can wash up in private." He suggested as he gestures lightly to her dirt covered arms and legs.-
She let out a sigh and looked down at her self. She really needed to wash up and rest. And maybe eat a real meal for the first time in awhile. " Fine.. fine I'll stay ONE NIGHT. " She told him as she looked up at him. She tucked her hat closer down on her head. " We can go to your house, I don't want to be out near the venders. " She told him looking about nervous about more coming after her. " lead the way.' She told him.
-Lowering his arm, he turns on his heals and slings his bag over his shoulder. " Now try not to loose me," he mumbled slightly before entering the vast crowd. He had confidence that the mage could keep up, he was taller than most people so it made it easy to follow him. After about five minutes of dodging out of arms and legs, they arrive in a larger area where the houses were more spread out.
Walking to what would be the center of an area of houses, they pass a simple stone statue of an unnamed goddess and proceed to an ivory covered house. The building stood three stories high and held the illusion of being part of the Earth due to all the ivory covering ever inch. Walking up to the large door, he opens the door with a slight squeal and they find themselves in a large ballroom-like living room.-
" Yes don't worry I'll keep right up. " She told him with a smirked before darted off after him as he pushed through the people towards his house. She never lost him and stayed at his heal hiding under the gaze of being a boy, so she was safe for now when the people were looking for a young girl. She looked up at the house as they came to the Ivory one and looked up at it. She followed him into the house and looked about quickly with those stunning blue eyes. " It's nice." She said softly.
-Not even taking a second glance, he wanders across the dance floor towards a stair case over in the corner of the room. There was something different about the staircase versus the wooden floor, it was made completely out of stone. Heading upstairs, they arrive in a more ancient-type setting.
All the rooms reflected that of the Indian culture with lace of many colors decorated both the walls and covered doorways. Traveling down the first doorway on the right, he pulls back a thick blue curtain to reveal a simple room. A dark brown trunk lay off to the right while a giant pile of white pillows, covered tightly with more blue lace, lay in the middle.
Almost silently, he cracks his neck before looking to the young girl. " Here's your room. You may use the trunk to store whatever you wish," he started, not allowing his fatigue to get to his voice. He continued with a small smile on his face," The bath house is out back. You take the stairwell down and travel to the far right, there should be a door to take you out there."
Reaching up, he framed his chin with his finger as he ponders slightly and soon points across the hall, remembering the thought," There is the storage room. There is some soap and linens, quite possibly there might be some fresh clothing in there. They're my servants' uniforms, but they're clean. That and if you take a right down the hallway and travel to the end, my room rests on the left." Walking out of the room, he heads to the stairs and starts to make way down. "Dinner will be soon, I'll have it brought up when it's ready," he shouted back as he disappeared down stairs.
Ash bowed her head slightly and nodded. ' thank you so much for everything. " As soon as he was gone she put her bag on the bed and tugged out one of her nicer set of cloths. Grabbing some soap and a towel she hurried to the wash room very happy with the idea of a bath a last. She filled the tub and got into it washing the weeks of dirt away from her hair and body. She stayed in the bath for at least a hour enjoying every bit of it.
At last she dragged her skinny butt out when he stomach started growling again. She let died raven black hair they let it hang beautiful down her bag. She pulled on a simple red dress that had long belled out sleeves and came to the ground. Her golden pendent still hanging around her neck safely. She was stunningly beautiful next to her first look as a dirty little street urchin who could pass as a boy. Now she looked like a beautiful young woman who could pass as a noble.
She walked back to her room putting her hand on her stomach as it growled. " Be quiet food is coming." She muttered at her stomach. She walked into her room and left her cloths out on top of her bag and laid down on the bed waiting for the food.
-Playing house-maid, he had spent the whole time cooking while she bathed but it was all worth the effort. After he had set all the food onto the appropriate platters, he wandered up the stairs and went to the dinning room, third room on the left. He opened the curtain and glanced at the long, elegant table, an un-set table that is. Damn pixie maids, always running around having fun instead of helping out, oh well.
Going to the trunk in the corner, he pulls out two plates and basic silver-ware for the both of them. Setting the silver out at each end of the table, he heads back out and stops in front of the mage's room. There being no door, he knocks slightly to the side on the stone wall before saying," Excuse me, Ash? Dinner's ready, but I'm afraid I need some help carrying it up."
Pushing away the blue material, he sticks his head into the room only to be met with a totally different creature form the one he agreed to take into his house. It took all his will not to let his jaw fall open, so instead he took to letting a soft chuckle escape his throat," My, my, I knew there was something under the dirt, I never would imagine it could be a girl," he paused and looked down at himself, still clad in only a pair of dark brown slacks. Looking back up, he let a small smile cross his lips, " Oh well, you'll have to dine with a peasant Madam ," he stated jokingly before walking back down the stairs to the kitchen, leading the way.-
Ash looked up hearing her name and quickly sat up on the bed. " Yes I can help. " She added quickly as she got to her feet to go to the door. When he came in she stopped and dark blush went over her face as he stared at her. " Yes I am girl shockingly enough." She muttered at his tease. " I am of most of my life no more then a peasant, I just clean up better then you." She joked at him with a playful smirk. She then walked after him her stomach growling loudly again over dinner. She now moved with more graceful movements, moved more like a lady should. She followed him down the stairs looking about with her pale blue eye staking in every bit of the house that she saw.
-As they arrived in the kitchen, he went straight for the large sum of food on the center table and picked up three of the five large platters. Fumbling to open the door with his foot, he finally makes it and starts to head upstairs to the dining room. Once they make it past the stair well, he leads her to the designated room and sets the platters in the center of the long table.
Heading to the further end of the table, he picks up he plate and returns back to the feast with all intention of filling his plate high. "It's pretty simple, but my maids are out playing so you'll have to deal with a man's cooking. We have bird, sliced apples, bread, beets, and lettuce. I hope it'll help your growling stomach." he said as he started to slice up the cooked bird into pieces for both her and himself.-
She picked up the last two of the platters with some trouble and followed after him. Once in the dining room she thankfully put them on the table nearly dropping them. She quickly got her plate and smiled as he made the remark about man's cooking. " Pfft I grew up on mans cooking. I have been traveling with my brother and he cooks for me.' She making a face as she let more about her self slip out. Falling quiet she filled her plate with out looking up at him and sat down to eat. She had it in her mind to eat quick, go to bed, and be gone in the morning before he woke.
-He continued filling his own plate with a smile, playing it off as though she had said nothing, and he sat down across the table from her. In the beginning, he ate quickly having missed the taste of real food, but he had slowed down greatly before he attempted small talk with her. "So you are a fire mage, right? Quite a daring move back on the street." Silently, he made the comment on the fact that she seemed really sloppy with her attack and that they would have kept on her trail moments after.-
She sat there quietly staring at her food slowly eating as she kept quiet. She made a face at her remark and sighed.' No it was daring it was dumb. It was sloppy and ill thought out. I could have done much better if I had my thoughts in order. " She muttered still staring at her plate trying to give as little info as she could. Every now in then with out thinking it she kept touching the place where her pendent was hidden under her dress.
-Still attached to his old habits, he carefully watched as her hand kept brushing just under her collar-bone. A bag maybe?.. Possibly a ring? he muffled in his mind. True, he could hand just examined closer with his sensitive sight, but if he was caught there was a great chance that she would run and that he would be on the floor with a bloody nose.
A small sigh escapes him as she brought up the attack and her style. "Ah, oui. I was just trying to give a complement though." -
" Forgive me, I'm stressed and have through a lot these past few days. ' She said softly with a pained and sad look as she at last looked up at him. Those sad blue eyes meeting his gaze as if she might cry. Though as quickly as this look came the mask came right back and she seemed clam and in control. " Thank you for the food it is very good.' She said quickly trying to change the subject when she went back to eating.
-Letting the subject drift off into oblivion, he nodded slightly and smiled in appreciation. " Thank you, I usually helpless with out my maids. Hence why I haven't had a real meal in days. I'm sure they're off having a grand ol' time playing in the field though." he was interrupted as he took a bit from a piece of bread. After a moment or two, his crimson orbs settle on the woman in front of him and pushes his plate forward a bit. Bringing up his hands, he rests them under his chin and a crimson gaze takes in the small details that had changed with a simple bath.
She cleared her plate slowly then pushed her plate forward again with a weak smile.' Thank you, it's been awhile since I have eaten a full meal." She said softly touching once again at the spot where her pendent was hidden. " Thank you for your kindness.." She said looking up and blushing again seeing him watching her. " Why do you keep staring at me?" She asked him bluntly.
-Watching her with a lazy stare, he decides that he could tell her, so without polish or glitter added to his words he just stated, " I just can't believe the pauper I let in turned out to be beautiful. Maybe there's magical water around these parts..." With a graceful shrug, he turns his attention out to the large window behind him and a ghost of a smile stains his lips.
"Ah, nightly showers." came his observation as a light shower started upon the town. Standing up, he starts to gather the empty silver and the platters in a pile in the middle of the table.
She blushed a dark red and looked down. " Thank you, I haven't heard anyone call me that for a long time.' She said softly before standing up as he did. She looked out at the window and a sweet smile cross her lips. With out really thinking about it she walked around to the window and looked out as the rain came down. " A down pour of the angels tears at the lost blazer of the fires spirit. Though of yet when the waters of the tears died the earth was made whole again. Healed the earths spirits and the fire of old has come again to a new...to lead the world to it's new time.' She said softly a old tale from the lost kingdom of "Kul-loon”
-Listening intently, he gaze continued to be fixated upon the stormy night's sky. Without a word, he exits the room and makes his way down the hall towards his room. At the end of the hall rested a giant door like window. Opening it up, he stepped out onto a large, wooden balcony and he walking out to the railing, looking out to the city he was force to protect. Damned wizard... Imprisoning me here.. he thought quietly as the warm rain slowly started to soak his body and his clothing.-
Ash looked up watching him leave and smiled weakly. With a sigh she returned up to her room. She opened her window and then sat down in it looking out to the rain. She held out her hand getting it wet and she smiled more. She pushed her self up to return to her room to go to bed. Walking to her bedroom she changed into her night gown and crawled into bed she quickly fell asleep ready to get up early in the morning and get away.
-After about ten or fifteen minutes after he had left the mage in the dining room, he left the balcony and quickly dodged into his room. Stripping himself of the wet pants, he soon was in a warm pair of black slacks and sitting eagerly on his bed. His eyes closed, he waits in silence until a small ringing fills the air.
Holding out his palm, a small pixie enters his room and lands on the outstretched hand. Opening up his crimson orbs, he stares down at the little imp and whispers gently, " I need a favor of you mon pesh, "he stared as a small nod was giving in return, " I need you to see what is around our guest's neck. She seems to be hiding it quite desperately. And if you do this for me, I'll reward you with silver."
The small pixie just nodded hyperly and was off in an instant, flying down the hall to the guest's room.Sneaking in, she fluttered close to Ash and tried to keep her wings from ringing as to not awaken the girl. Landing on her collar bone, the deviant imp gently walked over to the mage's neck and followed the path of the loose chain at her feet.-
Ash was lost in a deep sleep, this being the first bed she had slept in a week. She let out a soft moan hearing the soft ring but didn't wake in the lest. The gold pendent that hung around her neck was circle and held the seal of the house of Kul-loon. A royal family who had been over thrown during a war with a ruthless over lord. Most stories went that the whole royal family was gone. But there were whispered of one who was hidden away until it was time to bring the kingdom back to it full glory. The pendent she wore only those of the royal house could carry, so this meant she either had stolen it or was truly a royal.. no a princess.
- As the pixie found what she was looking for, she quickly took to the air and raced out of the room before Ash could wake up. Darting back to the master's room, she once again lands on his outstretched hand. Standing up, he walks to his study one room over and sets the pixie on his desk while he fetches a pen, ink, and some parchment. Giving her a small pen, he sets the open ink bottle and the parchment down. "Now, draw it..." he commanded gently. His eyes were fixated on the drawing, trying to sift through his knowledge of history but failed.
With a little squeal, the pixie dropped her pen as she finished the drawing and she took flight, hovering next to her Master's ear. Fishing out a silver coin from his pocket, he hands it to the little girl and he watched her fly off before focusing his attention solely on the drawing. So it was a pendant, maybe a magic symbol? Hmmm, couldn't hurt. The only other thing I can think of is a clan symbol or a guild. he pondered slightly as he went to his bookshelf. Some books were written by deceased scholars, some where from that b*****d wizard that entrapped him, and others were his journals of observations. Running his hand over the bindings, he picked out a book of magician and mage symbols, an older guild registry, and a historian's journal about powerful clans and rulers of the era.
Setting the books and the drawing down on his desk, he pulled up the wooden chair and set out on his quest to find out what that little mage was hiding.-
Ash slept fit fully until she woke at least a hour or two before the sun was to come up. She sighed seeing was still dark. She laid in bed trying to sleep more but just couldn't. She rose on her feet and thought to walk around the house for a little bit. She had to leave soon before the ones looking for her found her. She was The last princess to her kingdom. If she was found she would be killed and all hope of the kingdom being free one day would be lost. So she had to keep this secret and hide it from everyone, since the bounty on her head was very high. She still had no clue her host was starting to find out who she really was.
She sighed and gathered her things changing into a fresh set of pants and sleeveless tan shirt. She tucked her hair away under her hat and then slipped out of the room with her bag over her shoulder. She started to make her way down to the kitchen to pack her bag with some fresh food since she was long out.
-Sitting in front of the bay window in the kitchen, he took a sip of the warm tea he had brewed while he tried to gather his thoughts. It had been about an hour ago when he had stumbled upon the symbol in one of his books. A historian had taken note about the rulers of the kingdom Kul-loon, mentioning briefly that the pendent was a crest of the family but it was lost when the last of the family was supposedly killed off. Either she's a grave robber or she's a princess .. Fun fun. he thought to himself as he took another sip of tea.
The feeling of imprisonment irked at him as his 'human' form was protesting to the long night of playing a nice human gentleman. He closed his eyes and allowed his bindings around him to snap, allowing his real form to bask in the warm sunlight. His hair had stayed the same shimmering blonde color, but it lengthened to his shoulders and gained soft waves. His skin had paled oh so slightly and his eyes turned into a blaze of orange light, engulfing them completely.-
From the Stairs came a shocked yelped seeing him already up. She lost her footing on the last stair and stumbled and fell on to the ground. " Y-y-you scared me." She said quickly having through he would still be tucked away in bed. She pushed her self up on to her feet watching him nervously with her pale blue orbs. " Thanks for kindness, but I must leave now. I can't stay in one place to long for my own good.' She told him as she took a step back." I'm going to have to buy my food then." She thought to her self.
-Setting down his cup of tea, he stood up and allowed his fiery orange eyes to fall on the mage. I'm not sure what she is yet... I have to ask before she runs. he though in a bit on a panic. Walking towards her, he smiled slightly and allowed his sharpened canine to protrude over his bottom lip. His silky, baritone-voice echoed slightly in the kitchen as he simply asked, " Grave robber or Princess...?" -
All the color drained from her face as he asked her this. " He knows..." She thought to her self in a panic as she stumbled backwards from him. " W-w-what do you m-mean? " She barely got out as her body started to tremble stepping back on to the first stair ready to break in to a run right when she needed to. Her hand once again touching the place where her pendent was hidden from sight.
-Slowly, he started to regain control over his true form, replacing the bindings on his powers. His long, blonde retreated back to it's normal short self as his skin darkened back to a farm-boy's. Lastly were his eyes, all he was ever able to do would be to fade them to a crimson red, unnatural but at least they weren’t glowing. Walking forward a bit, he looks at the fire mage as if he was trying to determine whether or not she indeed was a grave robber or not.
Pausing right in front of her, he looking into her panicking blue eyes with his curious red ones so he could see whether or not she would lie. " Tell me, mage, are you the last remaining of the royal family of Kul-loon? Or are you a simple grave robber who had stolen their crest? You seem too pretty to be a grave-robber though." staring deep into her eyes, he just perked a brow as he waited for her answer.-
She looked shocked as he asked her this and with her legs already shacking as bad as they were she just sat down on the stair. " I am ..The Princess of Kul-loon. The last of the royal family. My name is Ash I am the youngest daughter of King Richard. " She told him calmly as she stared at the ground trying to control the trembles that went through her body. " Please, please I beg you tell know one, It could mean my death of the wrong people knew where I was.' She told him looking up at him now with a fearful pleading look.
