Chapter 6
Fairies

September 17
It’s been one year since the siren captured us. I'm now twelve years old. And, as promised, she let us go yesterday

Titus found us on the beach. He said he had been looking for us since the night we disappeared and was just about to give up. When we told him our story, he looked shocked.

“I'm sorry,” he said, “I should have told you about Kelva. If I had, you wouldn’t be in this mess.” He put his face in his hands.

I walked over to him and hugged him. “It’s okay.” I said, “You couldn’t have known what would happen. None of us could. So stop blaming yourself, okay.”

He looked away from his hands and said, “You are the bravest girl I have ever met. No one will ever be as brave as you. You should know that.”

September 17
James and I have recovered from the year we spent with the siren. We got new clothes, ate a good meal, and rested our tired bodies. I hope we can go to another place already. I don’t like it here anymore. James says that we can leave tomorrow.

September 18
James told me that we’re going to go see fairies! I’ve always wanted to meet a fairy. I wish I could go back home and tell my friends.

September 20
We’re in the Land of the Fairies. It’s small, so we can’t sleep in their town, but I'm glad to be out of Australia. James and I are staying in the nearest town. It’s called Goupi. James says we can only stay for a few days, then, we need to move on.

September 21 (p.m.)
I had another nightmare. This one was even more terrifying then the last. So much so that I can not, and dare not, write it on paper. I don’t even want to think about it.

James and I were sleeping in the same room at the inn. So when I woke up screaming, he only had to jump out of his bed. I was crying hysterically before he could even ask me what was wrong. I tried to tell him about my nightmare, but I couldn’t stop crying. James held me in his arms and rocked me back and forth. It was very comforting and calmed me down a bit, but I still couldn’t stop crying. Every time I closed my eyes, I caught another glimpse of that nightmare. And every time, I started crying as I did when I first saw it.

Finally, James started singing a lullaby in what sounded like the language that the elves used. This finally made me stop crying. I then realized exactly how tired I was. I quickly fell asleep to the beautiful tones of the lullaby. After that, I had sweet dreams.

September 22
I'm sad that we have to leave the Land of the Fairies. I wanted to stay longer, but James says we can’t. Even though I'm sad to leave the fairies, I know that we’re just moving on to another fun adventure. I can’t wait to see whatever James has in store for us next.
