LOZ Fanfiction: Chapter Sixteen
~Chapter Sixteen- Premonitions of Destruction~

Fire rose over the roofs of the homes in Castle Town as the dark horses rode in. Blood filled the streets as the Hylian Knights fell. Ganondorf exited the castle of Hyrule, holding the crown of the King, her father, in his hands, placing it upon his head. Above him, a golden trio of triangles, Triforce lowered itself down to him.

“No…”

Ganondorf raised his hand up.

“No…”

His fingertips touched it. Those fingertips of just as much evil as the rest of his body had touched the purity of the Triforce.

“NO!” Zelda woke up in a cold sweat. It had been a day since she left Kakariko Village, on her trek up Zora River with Link and Impa. She looked over to see Link keeping watch. He had obviously heard her, because there was no other reason he would look at her with that worried face. “Link…” she muttered. She looked at how tattered his tunic was. It was singed at certain places and his face showed no signs of exhaustion, while here she was, her clothes without a tear on them and exhausted. She recalled what Warro had said to her back in the Shadow Temple:

“Tch, just as useless as always.”

“Link?” Zelda asked, crawling over to Link and sitting next to him. “Can I ask you something?” Link turned to her with his warm smile. She took it as a yes. “Am I a good for nothing princess? This whole time, I’ve been hiding behind you and Impa. Even Warro said I was useless.”

Link’s eyes widened at this news. Warro did this to her! He did not hurt her physically, but emotionally. For that, Warro needed to be taught a lesson. He had no idea what Zelda had been through. He wrapped and arm around her and opened his mouth to speak, when he heard something. He stood up and brandished his sword. Taking hold of his shield, he began to make his way up the river’s trail. Zelda pouted as Link hurried away. He did not even bother apologizing for having to leave. This always happened, when she had a chance to be alone with him to talk. Something always had to interrupt. She stood up and quietly followed behind him, under the moonlight. As they walked, Zelda began to hear what had alerted Link. It sounded like magic was at work.

“Eh-hee-hee!” Link hid behind a boulder and looked to see who had laughed. However, Zelda was not as alert as he was. His eyes widened as he realized that she walked right out into the open, in front of what he had heard. Two old witches, one with a blue gem on her forehead and the other red, were circling above them on brooms. Of course, Link knew that the moment they got high enough, they would be able to see him as well.

Zelda was frozen in fear as the witches stopped circling and stared right at her. The one with the red gem on her forehead turned to the other. “Are my eyes seeing what your old eyes are seeing, Kotake?”

“Ee-hee, I do, Koume,” the other chimed. They swooped down and began to circle around her. “Pretty, pretty…”

“Yes, very pretty indeed,” agreed Kotake. “It is fitting for Hyrule’s princess.”

“Who are you?” Zelda gasped, putting her hands up to her mouth. She began to feel dizzy as the two witches circled around her clockwise and then circled counterclockwise.

“That is none of your concern, my dear,” said Koume.

“We merely wanted to see your fear,” Kotake added. “For you are the Princess of Hyrule.”

“You are not our target.”

“No, far from it.”

“Heeeyah!” Link charged toward the witches, yelling at the top of his lungs. Something told him these witches were in league with Ganondorf. He swung his sword at Kotake and missed as she rose up into the air. Koume joined her and they both looked down at him.

“Such a handsome boy,” Koume said with a slight cackle.

“Handsome, handsome,” Kotake added.

“The way he fights is fitting for someone unfitting to use a sword.” The witches lifted their arms and a ball of fire appeared in Koume’s hand, while one of ice appeared in Kotake’s.

Come on, Impa, wake up! Zelda thought, looking back in the direction of the camp. Her attention was returned to Koume and Kotake, when Link yelled out in pain. “LINK!” she cried, running over to him. His legs were frozen to the ground. Kotake was now preparing to hurl the fire ball at him. She did not know what came over her, when she ran in front of Link and spread her arms out. She was frightened half to death and was about to question why she did this, when she turned and looked back at Link. He was why she did it. “Don’t worry, Link. I’ll heal you, later.” She turned back to the witches and waited to take the blow for Link, when suddenly a voice was heard, seemingly carried by the wind.

“Meet me at the Spirit Temple,” the voice said. “I will be waiting. If my predictions are correct, I will be followed. I will give more information at the Temple.”

Link recognized the voice. He had almost forgotten, but now he remembered. It was Vaati’s voice. He could not believe that Vaati was in cahoots with Ganondorf! He should have scene it coming, when Vaati failed to assist him in his first encounter with Dark Link. The ice binding his legs shattered, freeing him. He watched as Koume and Kotake whispered something to each other, before disappearing in flashes of red and blue light. Zelda turned around, falling to her knees. The fear had her on the verge of fainting, but she still managed to heal the frostbite on Link’s legs. As they returned to their camp, Zelda and Link remained silent. The whole situation confused them, now. Koume, Kotake, and Vaati… just how many others were working for Ganondorf? Then, for Zelda, her dream started to bother her. Could it have been a vision? She wanted to ask Impa about it the next day.
