Beauty and the Beast
SoA1 name (and Meaning): Adi, a Hebrew name meaning 'my ornament'. SoA2 name (and Meaning): Rahab, the name of a fallen angel meaning 'violence'. Story: There was once a warlord's son who knew nothing but death and violence. His mother had been killed shortly after he was weaned, her throat torn out by a rival for his father's affections. He was, at first, small. And his six older half-brothers often tried to kill him, to ensure one less piece of competition for their father. But through sheer dumb luck and quickness and the fact he could hide longer than they cared to look for him, he survived. And every day, he grew bigger and stronger, sparring with every other cub he could. In his father's pride, no one minded beating the son of their leader senseless...they just couldn't kill him. As he grew stronger, he took his brothers out one by one, until HE was the only son left.
Instead of being scolded by his father, or executed...he was praised. And he gained the honor of being his father's Executioner. It fell to the warlord's son to slay those his father indicated, including the heirs of the pride leaders his father killed when they invaded a pride. He was content with this, and took great joy in the blood he spilled. Until her.
She was the daughter of a king his father slayed, and she was to die at the son's claws since she was of his blood and the son could not be found. But her beauty, and something in her eyes caught him. Instead, he knocked her out, and bloodied her up enough to convince his aging father she was dead. Then he hid her in a cave. The pride would stay in their conquered lands this time, the warlord had said. He had found a land he liked, at long last.
When the lioness came to, the warlord's son found himself struck at. But he just took it, then smacked her across the face.
"I spare your life, and this is my repayment?" The lioness growled, but stood back. And listened. He told her that she was his now. That she would not leave the cave, unless HE said so and HE was with her. There was water in the back thanks to a spring that bubbled up, and he would bring her food every night.
Then he left, pushing a rock in front of the cave that only he could move away from the outside. She was trapped.
He returned every night with food, and talked to her until false dawn. He was curious, though impatient and often struck out at her in a fit of anger. But as the weeks passed, his anger grew less and less, and a plan began to weave itself in the king's daughter's mind. One night, the warlord's son announced he would teach her to fight, so if any found her she would not be caught off guard. And so the lessons began, and more time passed. Soon, half a year had passed. And finally, the lioness tasted the outside once more. The warlord's son began taking her outside for training. And being among the trees again was wonderful. The moonlight was almost too bright, however, since she'd been in the cave for so long. She grew used to it again.
After a year, he took her to the edge of the pride's lands and turned away.
"You are free now. I can no longer hold you." She was surprised...and hurt. Why did he want to leave her? She'd grown so used to him, and he'd become a part of her.
"Why?" He looked to her and sighed.
"Father has deemed me weak. I die at sunrise. I will not be able to hide you any longer." The lioness walked to his side and nuzzled his mane.
"Come with me. I need you." He started, and looked at her with wide eyes. Then smiled. It was an awkward thing, his first ever, but it was true.
"And I need you, my angel."
When the sunrise came, neither Rahab nor Adi was anywhere near the trees that had surrounded them before.
