She knew she'd have to see him again sooner or later. They went to the same school, after all. She hadn't expected to see him so soon after getting out of the hospital, though. Sure, she'd been released the day after but...well, what had preceeded her being in the hospital had been nerve-wracking. She didn't think she'd quite recover from the Veteran's Park battle for a while, not emotionally. Unfortunately, it hadn't even been a couple of days into the school year when she heard his voice behind her.
“Enjoying your solitude, Kaida~?” The blonde had stiffened slightly. She'd been alone, yes. But she was waiting for Emi and Luci to join her at the bench she preferred to eat at. She was not amused to hear his slick voice addressing her. (How had she ever found him attractive?) While she might have shyed away from him once upon a time...she was a stronger person now. And she had someone FAR better than he'd ever pretended to be. She had Dem.
“I am a bit, yes. One of the people I'm meeting for lunch tends to be a bit hyper. So the quiet moments are rare, and to be savored.” That OBVIOUSLY wasn't the answer Richard was looking for, by the sour look on his face.
“I doubt you've got anyone coming, Kaida. Not after that stunt you pulled with me. I don't even see the Eichmann boy around! Did he finally see you for what you are?” Kaida sighed. Ah. This bullshit. Ugh...she was NOT in a mood for bullshit.
“Matt is out of town with his family for a couple of days. And I'm curious as to what stunt you're talking about. The only stunt between you and I that I recall is the one you pulled on me in Sophomore year.” He frowned and raised a brow, the sour look gone as he tried to keep control of the situation...especially since he had a new girl with him. Poor thing...had no idea what she was getting herself into.
“Oh? What stunt?” Kaida went back to getting her things out for lunch. “Well?”
“You cheated on me, then claimed I was the one cheating.” She said it bluntly, not a trace of emotion beyond neutrality in her voice. As if she was growing bored with the conversation, or didn't care. She narrowed her pale eyes, however, when he started laughing.
“ME? Cheat on YOU? Oh that's good! Everyone knows you and the Eichmann boy are doing it!” That did it. With an apology, Kaida snatched the Starbucks cup from the hand of the girl with Richard, popped the lid, and dumped it...on Richard's lap. The brunette yelped and took a couple of steps back before making further pained noises, the girl just staring in shock. Kaida gave her an apologetic smile.
“Sorry. I had to throw your coffee on him.” She looked to Richard, raising her voice enough that he'd be able to hear her over his own voice. “Listen very carefully to me. I don't care about you anymore. You nearly broke me with the idiocy you pulled...but friends we once shared, the ones you turned against me, know the truth now. And I have someone. No, it's not Matt. Matt and I are more like siblings than anything else. Dem is more than you will EVER amount to being, and has done more for me than you will ever dream of doing for another person.” She looked to the girl and smiled. “I would suggest dumping him now. Before he does to you what he did to me, or worse. If you want to report me to security, I can deal with a few days of suspension even if he doesn't learn a lesson from this.”
And while the girl was moving to help support Richard, who was cursing rather uncreatively at Kaida, the blonde just packed her lunch back up, and moved to intercept Luci and Emi. They'd find somewhere else to have lunch that day. Luckily...Richard didn't report the incident. Nor did his girlfriend.
Kaida did hear from an old friend in her next class, however, that Richard's new girlfriend had asked what happened...then promptly dumped him.
At least something in her life was going right.
