Mostly agree with that. It is HARD to find really nice looking plushies that don't cost a fortune.
Most are cheap lil things.
I do get what you mean about the realism, but I look at them as chibi forms of the real deal. If someone is stupid enough to think a tiger is going to be cute, fuzzy, cuddly, and friendly, they better hope they never get close enough to one to find out the truth. I still remember seeing a Florida Panther in my middle school auditorium when they brought it over. She batted around huge bowling balls (not light weight ones either) as if they were ping pong balls. eek
I suppose it is more common with anime plushies because they figure as long as it remotely resembles the character, it'll get bought, and they are usually right.
I love plushies, don't get me wrong, but I haven't found very many anime plushies that I like at all. I'd love to get a good IY one, but.. most of em, like you say, look.. icky.. gonk
