Every time you look away I feel I’ve fallen astray from the path I want to follow. Our hands are tied and I cannot lie that my heart feels deeply for you. Yet, I hesitate even when you smile. These warm feelings threaten to swallow my entire being. I pray it’s not some ominous foretelling. What could I do? What should I do? Everything I want and dream of remains an unspoken wish. A wish I fear I will never realize. Words fail and actions betray the lost translations of the heart. Will you read between the lines? Can you see me? Or do you just look at me as you look at everything else: boring, plain and one-dimensional. One false word, one nonexistent gesture and I could disappear forever. How fragile this bond is. I am the risk taker. You are the safe player watching over the game carefully. A game I would rather not play. Still, I betray my anxiety and I stay. Here I am waiting. My fingers twined together and eyes closed, heart racing, whispering, “I love you”.
