Truith's story
Beginnings
(A forest, beautiful, serene, and quiet, stretches on for what looks like forever. In this place lies a single house. The house is built around a large garden, containing everything from fruits, vegetables, and herbs to flowers, trees, and shrubs. To the east of the garden is the sleeping quarters, a single building separated into two parts. To the west is the library, standing two stories tall it is the tallest structure by far. Unsurprisingly it boasts an enormous amount of reading material, enough to keep any scholar reading for his or her entire life. The southern section is the living area, it contains the kitchen and dinning areas as well as an open area for recreation during rough weather.. The north most area contains only a shed. All of the buildings, excluding the shed, are connected by a stone walkway covered with a breezeway to keep of the rain. The man who built all this is named Wulf, a tough man who loves to build, houses furniture, machines; it doesn’t matter as long as he is working with his hands. He has long, dark, brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, green eyes, and broad shoulders. Overall his appearance is rough, like someone who knows all to well how brutal the world can be, which seems odd for one who looks to only be in his mid-twenties. His wife Elena seems a perfect contrast to him. Beautiful is the only word that comes to mind. With flowing blond hair and deep blues eyes that betray a great intellect, she puts to sham even the most gorgeous of flowers. She walks with a natural grace and even seems to give off her own light. Living together with them is their son Truith, a boy of six with dark brown eyes and very light brown hair that changed color in the light. The forest and his parents are the only things he has come in contact with. He knows of the world outside, his parents tell him of it often, but to him these things were just stories. He was content, just as things were, with only him and his parents.)
Elaine: Truith.
Truith: (looks up from his book) Hm?
Elaine: I think you’ve done enough studying for today. Why don’t you go help your dad with what ever he’s working on.
Truith: Yay! [can’t stand history lessons]
(Truith hugs his mom then runs out of the library and out to the work shed.)
Truith: Dad?
Wulf: Yea? (he stops working on the chair he’s making)
Truith: Anything I can help with?
Wulf: No, I believe I’ve done enough for today. Go grab your stuff and we’ll go train, all right.
Truith: Ok. (sprints to his room and grabs a dented and scratched up wooden sword.. Then he runs back outside to a trail that leads back into the woods.) (comes to the end of the trail.) Ready! (he is in a clearing. There are five high stumps. The stumps are stripped of all bark and are heavily marked. His father is already there waiting.)
Wulf: Alright, let’s start with the stumps. (Truith walks up to one of the stumps and gets in stance, as soon as he does, Wulf sits down and leans his back against the tree behind him.) (Truith begins. Every once in a while Wulf comments on or corrects flaws in Truith’s style.)
(after a while.)
Wulf: That’s enough. Take a breather.
Truith: (breathing heavily.) ( he sits down and slowly regains his breath.)
Wulf: Here. (tosses Truith a gourd filled with water.)
Truith: (catches it by the cord and takes a long drink.) Ahh . . . thanks. (tosses the gourd back.)
Wulf: (catches the gourd and ties it to his belt.) Now. (takes his wooden sword in hand and stands up. Gets in stance and points his sword at Truith.)
Truith: (looks up at his dad.) (stands up.) (gets into stance.)
Wulf: You get first move. (smirking down at him.)
Truith: Arrrgh!! (runs strait at Wulf and swings as hard as he can. He easily blocks it and pushes Truith back.)
(they continue sparring for about an hour. Truith, though he puts all his effort into it can’t seem to get even get one blow on his father, though he knows his dad is holding back.) (occasionally Wulf will whack Truith with his sword, not hard but just enough to keep him focused.) (to make sure Truith doesn’t overexert himself Wulf allows him to take breaks every fifteen minutes or so.)
Wulf: Stop, the suns getting low. We should head back.
Truith: Right . . . (catching his breath) . . . (looks at his dad.) Still can’t seem . . . to hit you. I mean . . . you’re not even sweating and I . . . can barely breathe.
(both start walking towards the house.)
Wulf: You shouldn’t worry too much about it. After all I’ve got far more
experience than you do. (brings his hand to his mouth and taps his
finger on his chin like he is thinking.) It might be a little better if you
could fight someone about your own level though.
(they get to the house.) (both head into the kitchen and help Elaine cook dinner.) (after dinner they walk Truith to his room, tuck him in, and kiss him goodnight.) (he falls asleep with a smile on his face.)
