A Little Bit About Greece and Friends
So..everyone knows about Greece in Hetalia.
He's lazy, sleeps a lot, loves cats, loves Japanese food, and hates Turkey, right?

But he's not in Hetalia much...how much do we know about who he is and who he gets along with?

The answer is surprising.

If Italy has Germany and Japan,. America has England and France and Lithuania, China has the Asian nations...then who is Greece friends with?

A little research showed that, in Hetalia nations, Greece is very closely aligned with the following nations (in no particular order):

1. America: Both have fought together on the same side and assisted each other in WWII, Korean War, and the Cold War. Since then, America has funded more than 11.1 billion dollars for Greek assistance since 1946. In 1995, Greece was the fourth largest recipient of US security assistance, receiving tens of millions of dollars for military aid.
Despite this, America, being the "hero" that he is, have, in the past, attempted to meddle in many Greek affairs, such as the Greek Civil war...and of course, as usual...mussed it all up. There are still some anti-American feelings in Greece, however, despite this, there are millions of Greeks currently living in the states, and there have been no real insults or hatred between the two nations.

2. Japan: In 1899 Greece and Japan establish very well-knit diplomatic relations, of which still are strong even 110 years later. They have establish 4 different treaties together, from education, to aviary, to abolishing vias between the two nations, to better improving their already close relationship.
Politically wise, the two's leaders visit each other quite often and establish strong diplomatic relations between the two. Economically, the two export goods to each other, and sometimes even build ships in the others shipyards. Culturally, the exchange of culture, food, and art are heavy, and there have been many theater performances in both countries.
2009 marks the 110th anniversary for Greek-Japan relations, and performances and celebrations will be going on throughout the year in both countries.

3. Switzerland: Switzerland and Greece both established diplomatic relations in 1830. Switzerland was one of the few nations that supported Greece becoming an independent nation, and actively had a part in making the nation a reality. Two humans from Geneva, Jean-Gabriel Eynard (founder of the Greek national bank) and Louis-André Gosse (leant aid to Greece in 1927 when ti was infected with plague and commander of the Greek navy) played an important role in supporting Greek independence. Today, the two nations have many treaties between them, mostly dealing with trade and commerce. Exports between the two nations are heavily in Switzerland's favor, as Greece tends to export much more product into Switzerland than what it gets imported from there. The balance of trade for Greece is -990 (in millions of Swiss Francs).

4. Finland: Although they aren't very closely tied together. Greece was one of the very first nations to support the independence of Finland. Offering a helping hand, maybe? c:

5. Iceland: Since they were allies in WWII, political, economical and cultural ties between the two nations have still remained strong even to this day. There have been numerous diplomatic trips to each others' nations, and there has been much talk about strengthening their ties, especially when it comes to telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and banking. Trade between the two is more equally proportionate then with most nations and the two have even thought of setting up join cooperation in the economic sector in the Balkan region.

6. Russia: Diplomatic relations between the two established in 1828 and have continued to be one of the strongest (perhaps even rivaling Japan's). In 1998, Greece and Russia joined together to create a pipeline from Burgas to Alexandroupoli, transporting oil more efficiently from one region to the other. Since then, tied between the two have been strong, and they have been working on small join projects between the two, such as Greece funding a school in Russia, and building a statue for the very first higher education facility on Moscow, The Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy of Moscow. They even decided to take turns hosting the Olympics in 2013 and 2014.

Surprising huh? Greece has the oddest friends...polar opposites, huh?
