Jeezy creezy.
I have been a regular user of Gaia for a lot longer than I've been a mod. I saw things that looked like they were handled, and things that looked like they weren't.
But now, being on the flip side, I am officially sick to death of mod-hating threads.
Let me clarify. I am of the school of thought that private issues require private handling. If a moderator is out of line, PM the moderator or an administrator. Dragging it out in front of other people is just going to cause uneasiness to fester.
Here's another thing. People seem to visualize this barrier between users and moderators. I still post regularly in the OP/L, chatting and critiquing while simultaneously handling reports. It's not like the moderator's life is dedicated to pissing off 3 million users. Mods run contests, use the Exchange, talk... *continues on the old "mod != robot" bend*
It's not that all mods are good. It's that, when people insult "the staff," that includes me. And I don't know any of the people that have made "mods are bad" thread. I've never had any interaction with any of them.
*sigh*
For all the good I try to do from my position, it sucks to see that backlash en force.
