Under Construction
Short Story
AlskaNoelle raised an eyebrow at Sudden-Amore. "I think it looks cool..."

"What are you on? That piece of crap must be hundreds of years old," Sudden-Amore huffed, crossing her arms across her chest, "And I'm not doing it."

AlskaNoelle's brow furrowed and she clenched her fists in irritation, "Doing what? I haven't even said anything yet!"

"You want to go inside. I know you do." she shot the pouty girl an angry look, "And I'm not going with you. That thing is gross."

"Suit yourself..." AlskaNoelle turned on her heels and scurried up tot eh front gate, pulling it open with a loud squeak, "I'll just go in by myself and you can stand out here. All alone. In the dark."

With that, she hurried up to the front step. The wood was splintered and arched underneath her weight. She had to admit, she was a bit on edge at first, but a rush of adrenaline soon took over and she pulled the door open, shutting it behind her.

Sudden-Amore, arms still crossed, held her ground in her normal stubborn way. She'd rather be outside than in that ancient house! Yes, being out here was much more comfortable. She didn't care if she was alone...in the dark...in the middle of nowhere...

She gulped as a shiver ran down her spine. Sudden-Amore peeked over at the house, hoping that her ignorant friend would come to her senses and come back to her. A loud crash of thunder startled her and she looked up to the dark sky as storm clouds rolled in. She crossed her arms tighter, trying to hold her post as long as she could. With another crash, Sudden-Amore yelped and zoomed past the gate, swung the door open and...

"Ooof!" Sudden-Amore stumbled back after hitting something solid. She peeked up at the back of a bright blond head. "Way to move!" she grumbled, but AlskaNoelle stood still, "Alska?"

She leaned forward, seeing a terror stricken look on AlskaNoelle's face. Sudden-Amore raised an eyebrow before turning to the left and spotting a black, hairy spider the size of a coffee mug. All at once she straightened back up and for a moment, both girls just stood, frozen in fear of the gigantic arachnid.

"You kill it..." Sudden-Amore said with a heavy breath.

"What?! Why me? You do it!" AlskaNoelle grumbled.

"You're older! You're supposed to protect me!"

"You've got a lot more fight left in you!"

"Age before beauty!"

As they fought, the spider twitched and moved an inch closer, demanding their attention. The girls screamed and sunk away from it. As AlskaNoelle whimpered and shivered, Sudden-Amore rapidly scanned the room, spotting the side of a window pane beginning to fall off. She reached out and ripped it off the wall, turning to the spider as she held it out with both hands, a rusty nail still protruding from it.

Cautiously, she inched towards it little by little, her hands shaking as she grew nearer and nearer. "Watch out for it's fangs!" AlskaNoelle called out to her. Sudden-Amore growled under her breath. That was definitely not needed...

Coming within striking distance of it, Sudden-Amore paused for a moment, staring the spider down as if it were a fierce rival. All at once she took a deep breath, closed her eyes and began smashing the ground repeatedly. The wooden floor cracked and splintered as the rusty nail drove through it over and over and the end of the board splintered and flew chunks everywhere.

Huffing and puffing, Sudden-Amore slowed to a stop. She looked around, seeing no sign of the eight legged creature. Feeling victorious, she turned to AlskaNoelle, a smile on her face. Her grin was short lived though, seeing the same terror upon her friend's face as before. She could feel the hairs stand up on the back of her head as she hesitantly turned back around.

She peered at the end of the board she held in her hands as the spider hung from it for dear life, several legs wrapped around the splintered end and a few more hanging out, twitching. Both girls burst out in a loud screech. Sudden-Amore through the board across the room from them, and, tripping all over each other, they rushed up the stairs to safety.
