~A-Z Story~
A-Z Story

As I fell on my knees, surrounded by darkness and cold, harsh rain ,I cried. Blinking the tears out of my eyes, I looked up at the dark, starless sky. Carefully, I got up, still thinking about what just happened and what I’d seen. Deep in thought, I continued walking through the freezing, pelting rain. Even after everything I’ve done for him, he still doesn’t realize the feelings I have for him, I thought. Facing down, I silently kept walking.
Good and bad memories flashed through my head as I approached my apartment door. Hesitantly, I stood in front of the door, and then finally unlocking it. I quietly slipped through the door, dressing out of my cold, drenched clothes, and putting on my black sweatpants and grey tank top.
Jay-Jay, my grey, tabby cat, blinked up at me from where he was relaxing on the kitchen counter as I threw my clothes into the hamper. Kill me, I thought. Laying down on the sofa, by myself in the darkness, I threw my state-blue blanket over me. Meowing, Jay-Jay leaped off the kitchen counter onto the floor, and then jumping up to the couch by my feet, turned a few times, then laid down and curled up into a tight ball. “Not a care in the world, huh?” I whispered to him as he twitched his ears, as if saying “Yes” in reply.
Outside, I glanced out the window to where it was still storming. Pelting the window like ice, the rain seemed even harder and colder than most nights. Quietly, I got up and looked out the window into the cold, city-light lit night.
Rubbing my hands together, I turned around, called to Jay-Jay, who go up and followed me, and silently stepped into my room. Sitting down on my bed, I stared at the picture of me and him on my nightstand.
Thunder still rumbled from a distance, while lightning lit up my room every few seconds, making Jay-Jay twitch his ears, as if annoyed by the bright light shining on his face while he tried to sleep.
Utterly confused and feeling a pain in my chest, I put the picture face down, not wanting to bring back the memories of that wonderful day. Voices in my head kept telling me to just forget, but my heart said differently. Without realizing it, I had curled up under the covers, softly crying to myself, not knowing why.
Xylophone-like chimes echoed through the room, making me jump, and making Jay-Jay mewl in protest, as I reached over and grabbed my cell phone to see who would be calling this late, until I remembered that this was his ring tone. “You never came after me when I ran away from you, so why care now,” I whispered as I ignored the phone, setting it back on my nightstand after taking the battery out. Zero reasons explained why I had not picked up the phone, but I didn’t care, so I rolled over, and cried myself to sleep on that cold, dark, rainy night.
