Basically a jerk. Hates people of all sorts and having to deal with them. Pretty much impossible to read, terrified of people figuring him out. Bears his teeth often for no apparent reason. A bit of a shut-in, enjoys the company of his books and his birds more than people. Abrasive and reckless, but also smarter than he looks.
more: Where Jilles' face is rectangular, Wes' is triangular. He has a pointy (but not very narrow) jaw, a nose with a narrow bridge and wide tip, and a very triangular bottom lip. His eyes are small, very angular and his irises are tiny.
Most of his hair is fairly short and has a naturally shaggy look to it. There are colored sections on both sides of his head and side swept bangs that go roughly to the bottom of his nose. His eyebrows are very curved and make him look constantly annoyed, and he has sideburns. He has two scars (scratch marks) on his face, one across the bridge of his nose going into his eyebrow, and the other roughly parallel near the corner of his mouth.
He's about 5'8" tall, which makes him 8 inches shorter than Jilles. He has, in his words, the body shape of "a rather ugly girl." He's a little on the stocky side, with fairly average shoulders and arms, a waspish waist, wide hips and very thick legs.
He wears clothes that help hide his body shape; a partially unbuttoned white shirt with a loose, black tie under an open, brown leather bomber jacket with baggy, tan pinstriped pants and black and brown work boots. When he is working with his birds he also wears protective gear, including the same sort of neck guard Jilles wears under his turtleneck.
Wes is pretty much a huge jerk. If he has to be around people he likes to make them squirm and has a way of making them do so even when he isn't trying. He's very abrasive, bullheaded and not afraid to make a low blow. Still, there's a big difference between his everyday meanness and when he actually has it out for you or feels threatened; he'll happily get into a fist fight, but pull a knife and he'll pull a gun (figuratively... usually).
Really, he just doesn't like people and won't trust most people as far as he could throw them. His philosophy is to walk on them before they do the same to you, but, really, he'd rather not give them the chance; he prefers to spend his time with books or his birds. He is at his nastiest speaking anonymously or by proxy, and is tamed by large crowds. Jilles is one of few people he's comfortable around (and one of the only people who can stand being alone with him), and a good part of his aggression comes from his social anxiety.
He constantly feels the need to have the upper hand on people, and one of his methods of doing this is making himself impossible to read. This is an art he's pretty much perfected; he bears his teeth very often, but what looks like a threatening grin could be an amused one, he tends to give a toothy smirk for no reason at all, and he can hide nervousness with a calm frown. He also has a habit of licking the front of his teeth, which is kind of creepy and often unintentionally threatening.
Wes is a much smarter guy than most people give him credit for; most people are surprised by his sizable vocabulary and academic pursuits. Unfortunately, his "book smarts" don't do a lot to solve his recklessness and tendency to pick fights he won't win.
He has much more affection for animals than he does for people. (Jilles hates animals, so they have a sort of agreement; Wes can't be mean to kids and Jilles can't be mean to animals, or else they face each other's wrath)
You know that person in comments and on message boards who makes posts that are literate and well thought out, but horribly rude and condescending? Wes is that person.
