The world, every one thought it would never die, it could never be destroyed by anything, everybody thought we were invincible, that nothing could wipe us out. We were wrong, and we were all but wiped out for our ignorance. No body expected that something so small could destroy everything humanity worked for, a virus, a plague. The people of the world thought nothing of it, it was just another disease floating around the world for us to contract, then cure, just like all the rest. When the first person was infected he was brought in, tested on, then given a vaccine, the doctors told him to check by again in a few days. The man returned the following hour, complaining of a throbbing head and a burning pain through out his entire body. Little time passed before his symptoms evolved into something beyond anyone could have predicted, he began to twitch and go into seizure-like state, after the body stopped spazzing he became enraged, attacking every one he saw, biting every one that moved, beating people until they went limp, and finally dieing from the gun shot of a security officer. After the passing of the first victim, the rest of the medical staff tended to the wounded, which was higher then anyone could have expected. Within the hour the wounded showed the same signs as the first infected, first a fever, then horrible pain throughout there entire body then the violent twitching, then nothing. After awakening they attacked everything that moved biting more and more people, and the cycle continued.
Once word spread as to what was happening, Russia sent in the best men they could think of to control the outbreak and to find out the cause of it. The squad consisted of five members, there names were Vladimir, the group tech specialist, he could always hack anything you told him to, Nikita, he was the heavy gunner, always had a love for anything that fired in full-auto his motto was " I have a bullet here with your name on it and i will keeping this trigger pulled until i find out which one it is" then there was Leonid, he was a sharp shooter, the two of us always made the perfect cover for our team, then the one i will never forget is Malina, she was so beautiful, the two of us always had feelings for each other but our life got in between what we wanted. One day we told each other this will be out last mission then we can live our lives together, who knew this would be the last time i ever saw her. We were sent into the last known area that the infection took over, it was a city, they never told us what we were up against, all they said was to keep everyone at a distance.
After entering the city, the chopper dropped us off and retreated into the distance. The silence was deafening. We moved as a group through the city only hearing the sound of the wind and fire that was swirling around us. As the first person stumbled into view and threw my fist up and stopped, gazing at the man in front of us. i looked at Vlad "don't get to close, remember, move up" we moved up only a few steps before it looked at us with eyes that i will never forget, white as snow, bulging out of his head, the most shocking feature was his face, half of it was torn off and his jaw dangled from its socket only being held by a few fibers of muscle, his movement sluggish and slow. The shock was clear from my team, not a single word was spoken for the time we watched the man fumble towards us. Nikita walked forward still silent. I looked at the man and saw more features that were shocking, his skin was pale white and he was covered in blood. Turning to Nikita i grabbed his arm before he could get any closer " Don't get any closer, any of you, what ever this man is...he is not alive" Leonid looked at me with confusion in his face "what are you talking about, look at him, he is walking around, he must be al-" Malina quickly joined into the argument "enough, look at him, he must be dead, no one would survive long with those wounds" I held my gun up and aimed it at the man "freeze, do not move or we will shoot you!" the man only fumbled faster at us, moaning and grunting at us. Nikita join in with his rifle along with the rest of the squad "do not move any further! I am warning you!" the man only moved faster. The man let out a loud shriek and burst out into a poor attempt at running. With out hesitation i pulled the trigger and set a bullet into the mans chest.
Falling to the ground we all looked at each other and nodded. We moved up and past the body only to see Vladimir fall to the ground with a yelp of surprise. We looked to his direction and found the man i had shot crawling on top of him. All at once, we opened fire on the man, shooting him off of Vlad and turning him into a bloody mess. He would not be getting back up again. As we we turned we were met with the faces of hundreds of people, men, women, and even children, all with the same features as the man before. Leonid stood in the front of the group " What is going on here guys?" he said, fear clear in his voice. I moved up to his side and looked at him, his face was white and his hands were shaky "i don't know but we have to move now or we will end up surrounded" without a word we turned back around and saw the same sight, hundreds of people gathering around us, covered in blood and grunting at us. We were speechless, nothing could describe what we felt and no one would expect what happen next.
The first one charged and the rest followed, all of us opening fire. I grabbed Nikita's shoulder "we need to get out of here or were all going to die, move!" without another words we broke formation and ran into the ally ways hoping to flee from our pursuers. After reaching the end we searched for the hope to escape, Leonid shouted to the rest of us "quickly up the fire escape" As the rest of the team moved up the ladder i provided covering fire then retreated up the ladder. After reaching the roof we looked over the edge and saw the huge crowed swarming around the building. Malina sat down by the edge "this doesn't look good at all, what ever the hell those things are, there out for us and there hard as hell to take down" we all agreed in silence knowing we might not survive this. I looked at the team, they were shaken up, and looked worse then i have ever seen before " take a rest we will move out in the morning, me and Leonid will keep watch" Along night awaited us and if we couldn't find a way to adapt to this, it would be the end of us.
