Wildfire in Irvine Regional Park burns 100 acres

IRVINE, Calif.—About 250 firefighters and water-dropping aircraft have stopped the growth of a fire that earlier surged to about 100 acres in a large regional park in Orange County.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Greg McKeown says the blaze that broke out at about 3:15 Sunday afternoon at Irvine Regional Park was showing few visible flames after sunset and is not a threat to any of the park's structures or visitors.

McKeown says despite having the blaze mostly under control, cautious fire authorities are calling it just 15 percent contained, and firefighters will remain in the park through the night.

The park in the foothills of east Orange County includes a zoo, sycamore and oak groves, and train and boat rides.
