"Sophia wake up for the lord’s sake!"
I opened my eyes to see the blacked haired man I’ve spent most of my life with. His amber colored eyes stared at me while he smiled my favorite smile as I woke up. He was one of my many friends but, unlike the others he wasn’t human; or like me. Damien was a shifter who chose the form of a cat most of the time but occasionally became a black mouse.
"Good morning Damien." I said smiling and stroking being his well hidden cat ears.
I sat up quietly and yawned. The large black coffin which I rarely slept in was visible in the bright morning sunlight. Yes I’m a vampire but since I’m half human I can still go out in the day time. Someone or something had been outside last night. So Damien insisted I sleep in it. Damien was the best body guard I had, always more worried for my sake more than his own. I blinked a few times before climbing out of my coffin going to my closet and retrieving my usual look. Damien left the room and I pulled on my black pants with blue chains followed by a black corset with matching blue lace. Once I pulled on my boots I grabbed my bag and met Damien at the door. He was wearing tight jeans and a black dress like shirt. His spiky black hair its messy self as well. I could tell he was still worried about whatever was outside the night before. However, today was my crushes birthday and I had bought him the CD he’d been wanting since it had come out. As far as I knew I was the only person Kyo had told about his birthday.
"Oh no I forgot Kyo’s gift!" I cried out while turning and running back to my room. Grabbing the gift I returned to Damien’s side in no time.
"Alright let’s go before we’re late for school."
With a nod Damien lead the way to our school. I watched as the butterflies danced before me. In my own world butterflies symbolized death. I began to wonder what they meant here where nothing but humans roamed.
"Damien how long have we been here?" I asked him while letting one of the beautiful creatures land on my cold slim finger.
He just stared ahead not answering me like he always did when I asked. It’s not that he didn’t know the answer he just didn’t like the answer of us returning to my father. We’d come here in search of my human mother. Damien turned the corner and I followed after him. He was never this quiet unless he was worried about something. I began to wonder if something other than returning to my father was bothering him. As my mind wandered I began to fiddle with the beautiful snowflake necklace. My father had once given it to my mother as a gift on their wedding night. It caught the sun glistening in the bright early sunlight as I continued to fiddle with it.
Turning onto the school grounds I smiled seeing Kyo’s face. His orange hair a shocking contrast to most of the humans I’d seen. Blushing softly as Damien mumbled something under his breath. He stood behind me leaning against the wall hands in pockets. His tall lean Six foot one stature in full menace mode like always. He seemed to dislike Kyo for some reason and she didn’t know why.
"Good morning Kyo!" I said waving happily, “happy birthday!"
I couldn’t help but giggle when Kyo blushed brightly. Though I was older, a lot older, I still loved him. Even though I wasn’t sure he liked me the same way. "Good morning Sophia" he said waving back happily. I let a small blush of my own cross my face as I handed him the poorly wrapped CD. I may be a vampire but I didn’t seem to have the same grace as others when it came to things. He smiled at me and took it calmly. As he slowly unwrapped it my heart began pounding wildly. Opening the gift he quickly hugged me thanking me as he did so. At that very moment Damien shoved off the wall, making sure to pull Kyo away from me with such inhuman speed which made others begin to stare. “Damien come on we're going to be late…” I whispered grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the school again. I knew something was up, even though he didn’t like Kyo he was never that harsh to him. When I got to my class I released his hand taking my seat in the process. Just as soon as I released his hand he wandered off to his own seat. As I sat in my seat Nami ran up to me her giggly self as usual.
"Did he like it?" She questioned sitting in her seat. Nami was my best friend. She was nothing but legs as I always joked. Tall, skinny, tan skinned and green eyes, her hair was short and brown. Nami was also Kyo’s twin sister.
As soon as the bell rang she wandered out of the class to her own. Silently taking my bag and placing it on my desk, I took out my homework. It was simple for me to do and once again as the teacher collected it, Damien didn’t have it. It wasn’t because he wanted to be cool it was because he didn’t get it. I alone failed at my many attempts to help him learn it. Damien had always been better at learning to fight. He had even picked up texting quicker than math. I quickly texted him and broke out laughing when the ringer sounded. He playfully flicked me in the back of the head. The text was a simple math equation n+17 <_12. His response made me laugh even more. Uhhh.....7. The classed stared at me as I laughed. I was always happy but this made my day. My fangs came out as I laughed causing many eyes to widen. I quickly clamped my mouth shut and hid my face. It was only a matter of minutes before they guessed what I was.
Damien who was usually quiet began laughing to draw the classes’ attention away from me. I looked at him before raising my hand. The teacher smiled and nodded at me dismissing me from the class. I stood silently and left the class leaving Damien alone as he scowled at me but let me leave without following. As I entered the hallway taking deep breaths to calm myself from the excitement I had just showed. that was when I caught the scent of blood. My head shot up and I gasped, the scent was so strong, so over whelming. I began walking slowly toward it while continuing to take calming breaths. When I reached the source a smirk came to my face. A young male sat on the ground holding his arm tightly. The urge to drink him dry nearly consuming me until I noticed the orange hair on his head. I had just thought of killing the one I loved.
"Kyo, what happened?" I cried out kneeling beside him trying to stop the blood which was pouring from his wrist.
He just sat there watching me as I tore his shirt and wrapped his wrist. It was so unlike Kyo to do this kind of thing but, there was no other persons scent anywhere close by. His gaze pierced me as I finished wrapping his wrist the blood already soaking through the fabric. I gently place a kiss on the bloody fabric hopefully healing it faster. I became shocked when he placed his hand behind my head and pulled my face up to meet his like he’d done it before. That was when his lips found mine, kissing me gently as if I were to break. My heart pounding heavily as our lips moved together in a beautiful motion. I could feel his heart moving to match mine. I couldn’t hear or smell anything but Kyo in that moment, almost as if everything was dark to me. That was when I suddenly felt the hand on my shoulder pulling me away roughly. I looked up to find Damien who was glaring at Kyo with such intensity it frightened me. My heart wrenching when I looked over, Kyo was glaring at Damien with just the same intensity.
Damien gripped my wrist tightly and dragged me away. He was more furious than I’d ever seen him for some reason. I wondered now if Kyo was something more like me. But his scent wasn’t anything strange to me. If he was an angel I’d be screwed because it was for bidden in my world to love angels. They were poison to my very kind on kiss from them could kill a vampire. I began to worry if my thoughts were correct. It was the only explanation for Damien’s anger at what had just occurred. Damien looked at me as we stood beneath the cherry blossom tree. He had a look I had near seen on his face since coming to the human world; it was a look of sadness. I swallowed loudly my voice no longer able to come out as I opened my mouth to speak. To Damien I was most likely a traitor by now, because if Kyo was an angel I just bought my family down as the last heir.
"Damien, Kyo is an angel isn’t he?" I asked solemnly not sure if id receive an answer.
"No he’s something else but I’m not sure what though." that was when he pulled me into a tight hug.
It caught me off guard since he'd never done it before. As calmly as I could I returned his tight hug. His left arm shifted and found its way to my chin. He then lifted my face and looked silently into my eyes. As he moved his face close to mine I jerked away from him and avoided his eyes. I wasn’t sure how to react to Damien’s sudden action, just me finding out Kyo wasn’t human was enough for me. Hard as I tried I still came off rude toward Damien as I turned. I quickly walked from him as the wind picked up my black hair swirled around my face, cherry blossoms danced peacefully around me. I had decided to skip school the rest of the day. When Damien got home I was sitting on my bed reading a book. He asked me a few questions before making his own dinner mainly because I personally sucked at it. It wasn’t surprising when he fell asleep on the couch. I soon fell into my own comatose like sleep my dream changing for the first time in seventeen years.
"I love you my princess"
"I love you too..."
That voice was so warm and inviting followed by my own. Who is this other person? Do I know them? It wasn’t possible, was it?
"I promised to protect you with my life."
They gently whisper into my ear. The voice is clear with happiness. Then suddenly the scene changes to darkness sounds of swords clashing in the back ground. Black and orange clash mid-air as I lay chained and helpless to an altar.
"I swore to protect her!!" It’s that voice again along with that promise. Who was it? Who are you? I want to scream out but I’m highly scared. Nothing comes out but cries of fear.
"I swore to my master the blood of your princess’ would be split....TONIGHT!!"
My thrashing to get loose begins to increase as my own fear increases. I’m not ready to die, at least not yet. The last of that scene is my blood curdling screams following after the silver knife being plunged deep into my heart. The final words I hear are the words of the ancient prophecy.
By lords command. I sacrifice her. The child born dammed. The child born sin. We spill her blood On this hollow day. In hopes for immortality. Please spare us my lord. For many have sinned. For that they are banned.
