Requiem of the Negligent
When I think of the hours i've wasted of the days I’ve felt slip by of those people I’ve let cross me and didn't care why. I look back now and I know now that I didn't contrive any true hatred but rather let it occur. Come now dear pale shade I’ll accept your lure, just know it must be dressed in grand allure. When the time has come I’ll tell you this I didn't cross the road I went down it and the blade didn't miss.
To believe he went without fight would be untrue, but to believe he carried all his woes with him this, this would be extremely true. He left the world and thought not of who cared he was selfish but was also caring of the blight of those who showed to late there was something more, to heed him, he couldn't feel their rays of light. He left, into night. Into the dark. Into nothing, extreme impenetrable darkness.
His soul was beaten down and tortured and hung from the highest halter, he transverse the fiery plains and beheld horrible sights. He had no Virgil to protect him, he was completely alone, and at the mercy of the daemon fleet that commanded the sinners to drone on. Toil away in mass hysteria of untold horror, their bodies languid in the heated stress and feeble with the gashes of the everlasting night's whips.
Soon he did approach his circle, a tiny one at that. It was minuscule and built from ceiling to floor with nothing but trees and decrepit buildings. The trees carried marked etchings of former human faces, which stared on in horror at him. He looked across one and it seemed to sway and moan in the suddenly cold depraved wind that came from the summit, and he their saw it a glass menagerie stuck in, among the rubble.
He soon departed the humanoid tree feeling tremulous pulses scurry up and down his spinal column. He approached it, that glass figure. It quaked, it trembled with such ferocity that he too shook, and with great vast hands it stretched out at him like water, and engulfed him. The glass was nothing more than malleable silvery water. Taking him wholly it showed him everything.
It showed him his mother, weeping uncontrollable; his father, dying slowly from a mixture of depression and betrayal; a friend lost without his help; a chorus without a spot filled; and a child gone, gone from the world, lost, her eyes filled with a sadness unparalleled a madness not quenchable by any doctor's pen. For she had witnessed it she had discovered it, she had discovered the unforgivable.
As he sat there he looked around and the glass shifted here and there, finally it reflected all around one image himself, him, the fallen one. He looked and saw not just a tormented soul but an unjustified end to an unfulfilled life. Doubling over in pain he felt his neck burn, his head pulsate, his eyes give off sweet smelling tears. They fell and the glass grew, he seemed not to notice the image behind him.
It was pale, and cloaked, its face was not a face but rather a reminiscent of what one once was." Speak!" the young man shouted," Let yourself be known, or leave, can't you see I am in pain." the wraith dropped its cloak and looked upon him, its alabaster skull transposed into that of the lost girl. “Can’t you see I am in pain." it mocked him. " Leave me now I pray you leave!"" I pray you leave me!" it mocked.
Daring it once more he picked up some rubble," I shall break you should you not!" It looked on, that innocent face tethered to the old dead bony body. “Go!" Shrieking now he hurled it at the figure, but it vanished and the menagerie smashed. “You have taken away another's life with your own, and you have lost your own caring for the youth around you, remember not that young face?"
Head whirling he fell back and more glass fell and shattered," no! And why should I?" He cried out as another piece fell and in a million shards disappeared. “She was your only tie to innocence, she was your only ward to which you had to care for, she was the only thing you had to protect, and you yourself besmirched her mind." It was so clear now, he lay clutching his head.
" How, why, I was alone, there wasn't a soul around, I made sure, I planned everything, I left that world with nothing more to care, and I left without anyone knowing." The wraith reappeared above him far at the sealing of the open air," she knew, she saw, just as you took your last breath, she was there. And her life followed yours here, to the inferno." With clenched eyes he threw glass at the beastly specter.
The inferno grew heavy again the chill air died and the heat resurfaced too quickly for a gasp." Her soul has followed yours here." Young and foolish he got up and kept walking the shroud following him ever so close keeping a dim lit lantern over his head. He walked and walked, he past the sands and the boiling lakes and fell deeper and deeper, the heat seemed to die more and more the closer he circled downward.
" Leave me be, let me suffer alone," his sleeve made backwards motions and revealed the deep gashes, "but you will never suffer alone, already thirteen years have passed on the earthen plain, and still you haunt that poor girl, shall you continue to do so?" “With all love of the almighty silence yourself, you have no vocal box yet you continue to use one, silence I pray."
The descent took no greater measure, for he approached the frozen core, his mind was in astonishment, his pale skin slung to him tighter, and the breath exhaled fell as soft frost to the ground. There lay a beast in a cage, barred from the world," he is the one I must speak with no? The one I must ask so I may leave?" He barged in and the beast awoke," Go away I wish no longer to be plague by the likes of you!"
The Hellequin looked on past the specter to the land ancient," I wish to return to earth;" his day dreaming was interrupted." Why you squandered all that isn't my fault, you took it all for granted and didn't care look at you with those slices in your porcelain skin; you belong here more than anyone." Taken aback he glared at the specter.
"To be forever with a chained beast and a wandering shade, I shall content myself no more." Standing on his frozen feet he lunged from end to end," I refuse to remain here, I’m going back!"- In a sweat he awoke and looked around. He saw no one there, no one to care. His heart gave a beat and he could feel his feet, and he knew he was no longer there.
The clock struck six and twenty four," thirteen" he mouthed a little less sure. Standing a little dizzily a thud came from the ground, the blade that lay by his side only moments ago. A door opened and there stood the girl, tiny and small." Hello uncle" she called a sweet little caw, he moved his foot to cover the glittering edge and waved back with a smile, all the while in his head he thought back to his dreads.
When I think of the hours I’ve wasted of the days I’ve felt slip by of those people I’ve let cross me and didn't care why. I look back now and I know now that I didn't contrive any true hatred but rather let it occur. Come now dear pale shade I’ll accept your lure, just know it must be dressed in grand allure. When the time has come I’ll tell you this I didn't cross the road I went down it and the blade didn't miss.
His mind didn't wander he knew, he was sure. He looked back on his dread and the thought again crossed his head," could I really have been as stupid as this?"
