My Poems
Where I will post poems I write
Once A Prisoner
Sitting in a dark room
Held by chains
Scars on my wrist
Haunted by my choices
They stare at me
For I am a prisoner…

I deserve to be here
I chose this upon myself
This is my fate.

Sitting here terrified
Crying many tears
Wishing I could undo what I’ve done
Now I’m here
A prisoner…

We all chose to be here
By the choices we’ve made
But do all of us want to be free?
Some of us have gotten used to this prison
And we choose to keep living here
But I’m crying out and searching.

No I’ve never murdered
I’ve never had sex
Never done drugs
But I’ve hated my brother/sister in my heart
I’ve even hated God
And blamed Him for the choices I’ve made
Blamed Him for the things that aren’t His fault.

So I’m sitting here
A prisoner in chains
This will be the death of me
Starving for love, a second chance
Looking for a way to undo what I’ve done
Go back in time, take back the words I’ve said
But I can’t so instead
I’m a prisoner…

We all chose to be here
By the choices we’ve made
But do all of us want to be free?
Some of us have gotten used to this prison
And we choose to keep living here
But I’m crying out and searching.

Suddenly the room lights up
A peaceful presence is felt
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this place light up

The guards are walking
Beside them another man
Wearing blood-stained clothes
We think that He’s a prisoner too
And made wrong choices
For He hangs His head in shame.

Then He speaks
I came to set the captives free
I’ve done no wrong but paid for yours.

The prison doors unlock
The chains break
And we’re free to go.

He steps in the door and says
He came to be a sacrifice for sins
He paid a price that none of us could
So that we would be free for eternity.

They took His life
Instead of ours
We were prisoners…

Who this man?
This King of glory,
Who forgives even the worst sins?

Now we’ve all been set free
But very few lay at His feet
Thanking Him for all He’s done
Worshiping Him and giving Him
The broken pieces that still remain…

He took our place
Died and rose again
We are free and every chain is broken.

Still some return
To that old prison cell
Return to the very thing
They’ve been set free of
Reject Him and choose not to walk with Him
Still He loves them and paid the price for them.
We’ve all been set free
But very few lay at His feet
Thanking Him for all He’s done
Worshiping Him and giving Him
The broken pieces that still remain…

Covered by undeserved grace
Set free by His blood
Once a prisoner
Now a child of love…

Sitting at His feet
No longer held by chains
Tears of thankfulness flow down
I wash His feet with my tears
A small sacrifice compared to everything He gave.

He looks down on me with love
And invites me to sit at His mercy table
To come and feast with Him for I am no longer a prisoner of sin
But a child of love and servant of Christ
Willingly lay my life down for His glory
I am His and He is mine.

Once a prisoner
Now a child of love
Set free by mercy and grace…
