Once again as I walk through my daily life, I am accosted by the bright colors and heart-shaped decorations declaring that 'Valentine's Day' is once again upon us. Even though the actual day is a month or so away, I cannot seem to go any long period of time before running into the advertisements of flowers, chocolates, and jewelry for a loved one. Have businesses nothing better to do? Why make one feel worse for what they do not have, or worse: make them feel pressured into trying to obtain love? Sheer folly even for the ones who have attachments. They get hopes up for impossible romantic gestures especially during these times of economic hardship. And if you do not live up to expectations, you are consequently removed from the picture. It makes one long for the old days when courtship was simple flowers and heart-felt letters. Not diamond-encrusted trinkets and over used phrases. It is enough to drive anyone mad, mortal or immortal.
