I find myself in a LARPing type fight. We are in an abandoned strip small. There are two grand staircases within each entrance. There are two teams, one at each entrance. The object was to get to the other entrance area from when the timer starts. A simple 5 minutes. For walking itself, it would be you 10 minutes to get there. If you did not make you, you were locked out and would have to fight off the other team til either you or them are dead. You died by a simple 3 hits to the chest, one to the head, or 5 to any other limb. You would need to move in a circle. One team would move outside and around to get to the next entrance, while the other team moved inside. Members could keep moving past their safe point if chosen, but then they would be the first to fight against the other team head on. You couldn't leave the designated area, which was set by a simple caution tape.
We begin. My team is the first to head inside and around to the safe point. Clocks are ticking down to the lock down. We move quickly, and most of us manage to make it. A few go ahead to strike first, in hope's of a surprise. I look back, and almost like a flashback, see a different view. It was unlike the mall we were actually at... but a demonic setting of cages, chambers, and horrific scenes. I look forward to a normal setting once more... and it is time to move again.
This time, when we arrive, we found the bodies of our teammates. Even though we are LARPing, they lay there pretending to be dead. We mourn and continue, knowing they are more than ready for us. I look back upon the bodies to see real gore. It was more than real for me. I shake it off. Another round.
We were unprepared for this ambush from behind this time. They had more men out than we expected. After losing a few more, and demolishing what opponents they brought forth, we quickly ran for our safe zone. None of us were prepared for what happened next.
They ambushed us from the front and the back. At this time, the gruesome flashbacks became a reality. The opponents were demons and imps, both flying and running at us. The deaths were real to me, and I fought with every last strength in me to make sure I wasn't next on the list of the deceased. Before I knew it, I was lifted by a flying demon of sorts. I fought and fought for it to let me go. It flew me higher above the others, to where not even they could help me down. I was flown down into a chamber, and tossed onto the ground like an unwanted doll.
I looked up to see demons, standing by a thrown. A black thrown, with a young "prince" like figure properly relaxed in it. His elbow proped up so his fist held his head up. He looked deeply at me and smiled. I didn't waste time when I grabbed a sword laying next to me and bolted out. I ran up the stairs to find a dear friend of mine with a hollowed out hole in their stomach. I could see and smell the stench of stomach lining and intestines rolled out from the hole.
"Kill me," she said. It was so calm. Here I am not sure of what to do. I look inback of me, and then back to her. Everything was back to normal. I was holding a simple wooden sword. There was no hole in her stomach. Nothing was wrong with anything. I started to tear up. I did the simple '2 hits to the chest', assuming that she already had one hit to her chest due to her condition of faking pain. I watched her playfully die, but within a blink, everything was back to the horrid gorefest. I stood quickly and ran, not looking back. There was no timer anymore. I just ran as fast as my legs would carry me. I was still crying as I ran by what was the safe zone, bodies everywhere. I stopped at the doorway, noticing the glass was shattered and on the floor instead of on the doors themselves.
"We found an exit," a voice said inback of me. The few survivors were hiding under the staircase, quaking with nothing but fear in their breaths. I turned to see 6 people, besides me, left. "If we can manage to make it to the other staircase, there's an exit to the right. We have to be quick and quit. Will you be joining us?"
I simply nodded as they walked out infront of me. An awkward silence was both infront and inback of us. The moved as quick as they said they were going to. I didn't follow. I moved past what caution tape was left, and hid beside the building. I could see a dark gray snow falling. It didn't smell the same, but it felt like snow. I tried to keep calm, and managed to suck up the tears. All in good time too. I could hear the vibration of storming footsteps throughout the building, and outside. Shrieks and screams echoed around the outside area. I took a deep breath, and held it for as long as I could. It wasn't too long before the silence fell back over the area. I clenched onto the sword that I still carried, and made my way into the open area of the darkened pathway made by bloody footprints and the dark snow. It wasn't too long before I found myself standing at their so called exit.
I could hear deep growls and chuckles of what I assumed to be the demons we failed to defeat. I carried myself up the stairs, moving between the bodies of my teammates. I peeked over to see them. They were glorifying what they killed. I could see one picking up the body of the woman I had, sadly, forced myself to finish off. He swiftly sliced her head from the body. I gasped loudly.
At once, they all looked over. I knew it. That was it for me. I threw the sword as hard as I could at them and bolted down the stairs. I flung myself outside, sliding on the snow. I ran and I ran, knowing they weren't too far behind me. I could see a few selected demons come out the other entrance. I looked back once more, and then I tripped. I turned as a I fell, and fell onto my back, holding my arms above my face, protecting myself from what was to come. I felt my lips quiver and my body want to cave in. I held my head up to look once more infront of me. As I did, a black swirling smoke whirled a few feet infront of me. The demons stopped as a young man appeared from the smoke. It was the same prince like figure from the throne room that I was previous carried to.
His eyes pierced into mine once more. I lowered my arms to sit myself up. It was if I had no time to do it, though. Before I knew it, my arms and legs were being pulled away from each other by demons. The jacket I was wearing was torn to shreds and moved off of the dress I was wearing. The prince stepped forward, and moved to my left. He smiled, showing his razor sharp teeth. I cringed a bit in disgust.
"It seems you've been waiting." He said.
I held my mouth shut, not wanting to bother with anything. I just wanted to be killed. I didn't want to endure this anymore.
"You..." He paused and gently set himself beside me, kneeling. His hand caressed my hair.
I couldn't tug myself away. The more I struggled, the more pain I was bringing to myself due to the demons already shoving my limbs to the ground.
He leaned himself down to my ear area, smelling me. I could feel my lips quivering again. I tried to keep my warm breaths to myself, yet his breath was ice cold on my throat. I gathered up everything in me, took another breath, and finally spoke.
"And what about me?" I whispered, keeping my eyes dead to the sky. The snow barely fell now. I was cold, so very cold. His breath wasn't making it any better, nor was his smell. Even though I could smell sweet flowers on him, I could smell death.
He smiled and whispered into my ear, "You're not fully awakened, are you?" He paused on speaking, tracing his fingers back through my hair, and over my eyes.
I couldn't see now. His hand blocked everything, except for the small tears that barged on by.
I bit my lip and talked through my teeth, "What... what do you mean? Damnit, either start making sense or just shut up!"
His chuckles echoed into my ear. I could feel the hair standing on the back of my neck. He nuzzled his mouth below my ear, as if taking another smell. I felt a sharpness across the side of my neck, and then some form of liquid trickling down.
"Everything," he paused and lifted himself so that he was straddling my body. "will make sense in a little while. You'll just... have to endure a bit more before you can understand."
I felt his hand place itself on my chest. There was a sudden pressure of his hand, and heat that rushed through my body. I could feel my heart racing. A pain struck in my mouth, I gasped for air and begged myself not to moan from the pain. Another pain hit the tips of my fingers. I clinched my fingers inwards, trying not to dig them into my palms. The worst pain was in my chest, right where his hand was laying. The head suddenly vanished and a cold feeling swept through my body. My upper body thrusted forward, almost convulsing. The pain was horrible. I had never felt anything of the such. I let out cries and moans as the pain kept getting worse and worse. A body was suddenly pressed again mine, forcing me back down onto the ground. A mouth enclosed itself with mine, and I felt life come back into me.
My eyes jerked open, to find myself back in the normal time which I had left. The pulsing pains in my fingers, chest, and mouth slowly started to end. It was bright. I covered my eyes to see a street lamp, and other shadows form around. I flinched for a moment, then realized that it was only the teammates I had played with moments before this... thing took over. We laughed and talked about it. It seemed only I had experienced this darker realm that was lifted as I woke back up. We all smiled and departed. I watched the people in their cars leave. I only stood under the light, looking back around me. I looked down at my hand, and back up. I wasn't sure what to think. A slight tingling feeling was still in my chest as I looked into the darker corners. A feeling as if someone was there haunted me as I left to my car. I watched the area until I was safe inside. The sky was dark around me as I left the area. The feelings never stopped. Nor did the feeling of someone being there watching me did. I kept glancing at my back seat. I still couldn't figure what happened. I just had this feeling it was far from over.
