"Well, Mr. Todd, I have a proposition for you. I've heard from a reliable source," I gestured at the girls, "that you're in the market for revenge."
"Aye."
"As am I, sir. I want you to help me."
"And exactly how or why should I aid you?"
"Because, Mr. Todd, I don't think you should like it if I informed the police of what exactly goes into those pies your lovely friend makes here. Also, by helping me, you would be one step closer to your goal."
Mr. Todd exchanged a glance with Mrs. Lovett. Even if I hadn't been adept at reading expressions, I would have been able to tell that their expressions quite clearly said, "Oh, bloody hell." He crossed his arms over his chest, the razor in his hand glinting in the dim light.
"All right then. What is it you fancy is in Mrs. Lovett's meat pies? If you're correct, I'll help you."
I smirked. "Human flesh. Male, to be exact."
"And how would you happen to know this, Ms...?"
"Sparrow. Jaqueline Sparrow, Mr. Todd. And I know because I can smell the blood from both above and below this room."
The razor in his hand twitched as if he was about to use it again. I held up a hand.
"I wouldn't try slitting my throat again, sir. My husband wouldn't like it, and you don't want him to be angered. It's not pretty."
Vash growled in assent, and the barber grunted his understanding.
"What are you planning, Ms. Sparrow?"
I smiled. "That's what I wanted to hear. There's a man, as I'm sure Mrs. Lovett's told you, who I want to kill. He'll be in London in a couple weeks. I'll bring him here, convince him somehow to get a shave, and then you'll take over."
"So you get revenge, and we get fresh supplies. Is that it?"
"Absolutely correct, sir."
"Stop calling me 'sir'. Then I'll see you when you return."
I chuckled to myself. "Right you are, Mr. Todd. We'll be back in a couple'a weeks."
I took Vash's arm, and we turned to leave. When we reached the door, I called back over my shoulder.
"Mrs. Lovett, would it be possible for you to make sure we're the only customers when we return?"
