Feathers fall in a shower of Black
Telling one, you can never turn Back
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two endless black orbs stared out into the emptiness of a field, a gentle breeze blowing her black hair to the side and a few unlucky patches of grass to be caught up in the winds soft torrent. There was a smile gracing her lips that didn't match up to the sad intensity of her black eyes. If someone watched her long enough they would see that smile was a cover up for something truly unknown deep with in the black abyss of her eyes, but if ever given a chance to stare into those eyes of endless black you would no more surely be sucked into them as you would with a tornado. The vast field brought back images and memories of past transgressions that she so sought to hide with that mask.
At the first few years after her life was brought up she was alone and was left to the safety and food of the trees or some other source of food that she couldn't for the life of her remember. Days in the trees laden with fruit were spent day dreaming, those dreams consisted of her being able to get away from it all and fly away with black feathers on her arms. It was a silly dream yes, but she had nothing better to do in the village she would never consider her home. As she continued to day dream her dreams were mostly interrupted by a rock thrown by someone near by who told her and demanded of her that she get out of the tree. Of course she paid them no heed and got out of that tree to venture off to another one where she wouldn't be disturbed. Rumor serves well for this child whose head is so high in the clouds it's impossible to get her down and with that information circling around people adapted to calling her names being that they never really knew her name. Rat with wings, such a suitable name for a girl like Tsuki, but only if she could fully care to listen to them and be able to understand that their intentions on such a nickname were not for solely to berate her on her habits She would have had a decent place to live.
As she stayed more to the trees and less to the people while they continue to try and relieve her of her wooden home she was oblivious to what would happen next. She snoozed happily in an apple tree, rather close to the town she lived in. The sound of whispering caught her ear awakening her just as hands grabbed her form the safety of the tree. Tsuki called out for her mother and father then she realized she didn't have any, no one would come to help her as she was hauled away by the mysterious men. If her memory served her right, the trek was long and difficult, the roads they took her across were bumpy and whenever it rained they were slick and slippery. It seemed she was just a rag doll to be pulled through the muddy water. Days passed with this journey that seemed never ending and Tsuki hoped that at the end, if there ever was one, would hold some happy cause yet sadly her hopes were gone as she was dragged down into a dark basement. There were whimpers about the rooms as she was dragged past cages then down another set of stairs and into another room only this one was empty save for a lonely empty cage.
For months she was imprisoned in that cage, certain to die in the place at just 15. They fed her little and she was left to curl up in the cold that presented itself in the underground basement. Days seemed to fly by and Tsuki had no hope of ever returning to the daylight, but by the seeming grace of one mysterious black feather in front of her cage her escape was certain. She waited for the moment when they came to check on her, mistakenly taking her out for a yearly clean up of the cage; being malnourished and barely to the height of 4ft 11 helped her with a less than easy escape. With the floors rather slick and the help of her tiny body she slid past the men cleaning the cage and made a mad dash for the opening to the building into a bright and white surrounding area, leaving her blinded for a moment. There was no time for sight seeing, she had to get back to her home and find that one tree she so loved and lived in, the one she felt so protected in.
Alas the treck was a gruesome one and one that wasn't accomplished having decided to wait so long for the snow to melt so she wouldn't be stricken with frost bite. She had almost made it, but with little food, no strength and sick had rendered any movement further to fail and make her collapse. Lady luck had to of been smiling down upon her, it had only been a few weeks since she had dropped to that spot and was came upon by a wandering traveler. From what the traveler had told her when she came too at his vacation home in the woods she had been encircled by nasty crows who had pecked at her some, also reaching some pecks himself, but didn't seem to find her very appetizing. It didn't much matter to her, she had nothing really, no knowledge of what became of her home or simply of the tree that had become her home. Though through the few years it took for her to become healthy again she regained her confidence that there was still something left out there for her she left the traveler's home. Sadly she had no memory of the way she had ran after she had escaped that horrible place. All she really remembered was the rising smoke in the distance before her eyes closed shuts. Tragic really, can one really forget their way home? It seemed so for her.
Tsuki took a break form her memories, leaning back against that tree as one lone tear streaking down her cheek. It was truly a feet for her to remember a dark past, one not so though of as bad by others, but if you truly saw her through those moments you would see the intensity. She took a moment to breath, wanting to remember, remember it all; all the pain and loneliness that surely would've drawn any normal person mad. She looked out to the field again and slowly the painful memories flooded back.
How ever many years had passed now Tsuki wasn't sure, but she was only a bit certain of how old she was now: 17, maybe 20 or in between those two. She had taken a liking to living outside more so than she had when she was living back at her home. Home, such a simple word with so many meanings. Had she a home anymore? Maybe her home was just a pile of old rubble scattered around, it was uncertain to really tell. How much luck did Tsuki have, well it seemed quite a lot now she had come upon that said familiar rubble, but she wasn't certain if this was the sight of her old home. Even just staring at an old rock that was the wall of a house was a bit painful, had she any sense of direction back then and any good memory she would've been able to return. As she sat there contemplating what to do next she heard a familiar sound, cawing and wings beating against the wind. Crows. Ah the black avian that scavenges the land of any dead thing they can find. The man they encircled wasn't familiar though of course it would be difficult to even make out who he was because the Crows had surely pecked his face off. One spotted her and stared at her with beady black eyes before it gave a few annoying squawks and flew off with several others following. One bird, however, stayed behind and nudged his silky head towards the others, perhaps telling Tsuki to follow. She knew she wasn't insane, because she had survived so long in the woods on her own so she followed the black bird.
As Tsuki followed the Birds endlessly into the night, she felt for an instance that she was dead, her body was weightless and she hadn't had the need to eat for several days. Maybe these crows were leading her to somewhere nice where she could lay down and not have to worry about getting up again, but in the distance she saw a man; possible someone to guide her further into a blissful rest. To her dismay it wasn't someone like that, the man welcomed her, saying something about barracks of squad one whatever that truly meant.
When she spent a few days amongst the people there did she realize she had found a moderately wonderful place and had been saved from her loneliness though there wasn't much left of the real Tsuki, pretty much just a shell of her former self with only sadness to fill her up and a fake smile to keep that sadness hidden.
So it was done, a recollection of Tsuki's memories endured until the end. She sadly regretted ever venturing past those locked doors having now felt an over whelming sadness and loss. Never again shall she speak or even remember such things, it was better to not of even gone there. "A fragile crack in the mask.." She mumbled, seeing the very toll the memories had taken on her.
