Long ago, the Ihey family in Draco were a simple family of musicians and singers. They travelled all over Draco, and now and again, they would adopt orphans and the last-born of servants into their family, giving them a chance at a better life. One would think they sided with the rebellion...but they did not. The Ihey had no love or mind for politics...they simply lived. Everyone pulled their weight, everyone helped out. Men and boys did the work that required the most physical expenditure or dealt with people outside the family (aside from music or song), women and girls did the cleaning and cooking and sewing. And any who had talent learned to sing or play an instrument. Men and women were...almost equal. Well, about as equal as they got in Draconian society.
It was fifteen years before the fall of Draco that the girl who would hold Altais' starseed was born. The current leaders of the group, Nefer and Hayât, had had three sons before the girl, and were happy to welcome their daughter into the world, naming her Sat. At first, no one knew or suspected the girl held a starseed. She was doted on by her mother and aunts, beloved by her older brothers, the sort of girl who could smile and light up a room. It helped she had a pretty voice and loved to dance, and was easily taught how to behave in the public eye. After all, though the Ihey had no love of politics, they knew better than to behave certain ways in front of other Draconians.
Sat grew up a happy child, unknowing of the power slowly growing inside her. She gained a dear childhood friend in one of the orphans the family had adopted, a boy named Ahmar. He was a clever boy, smart and inquisitive. But he was also getting into fights with other boys rather often, for he had a temper fitting a Draconian boy his age. Sat was constantly patching him up, and he taught her how to hold her own in a fight if another girl, or a non-Draconian boy, ever decided to pick a fight with her. Both of them knew what would happen if she ever tried to fight back against a Draconian boy. It was to Sat that Ahmar confided his hope to one day join the military of Draco. He wanted to show whoever had abandoned him that he WAS worth something, that he was strong! And that one day, he would return with glory and a home to call his very own, and make her his wife. Sat agreed to it, and the promise was made between the two of them.
Nefer and Hayât didn't argue their plans, knowing that Ahmar was the sort of boy who held to his word, and that he made Sat happiest of all. They had three strong boys already, one of whom would eventually lead the Ihey, and the other two would make any marriages needed to keep the family strong. Besides...having a daughter married to a military man would help keep them safe. Especially since the Ihey had RAISED said male.
But it was not to happen. The day before Ahmar could join the military, a group of young men, bandits older than Ahmar, descended upon Ahmar and Sat while they were heading back to their camp. They ran Ahmar through, and had 'other' plans for Sat. Plans they didn't get to go through with, as the star seed inside Sat finally reacted, sensing her sorrow at watching her beloved receive a wound that was likely fatal. Altais finally woke up, and only one of the bandits managed to get away from her wrath. When she was finished, Altais pushed aside any fear or horror she might have had at what she was and what she'd done, fear for her beloved's life outweighing it all. Fear that was well placed, as Ahmar died with his head in her lap, telling her she really was a woman he could be proud of.
And the bandit who got away? He returned, with guards. Altais knew the punishment for being a senshi when she was a girl. And she knew what would happen if she told them exactly who she was. For the safety of her family, she did not speak. Even when she saw her parents as she was dragged up for execution, she did not speak...and they knew better than to call out to her. Perhaps she got lucky...for just as she was readied for execution, the darkness blotted out the stars and overtook Draco.
