Kaida stared at her calender, at the dates during August circled in red. Kyoto. She and her family had planned on going to Kyoto for two weeks, to visit relatives and to observe Obon. Obon...once, it had been simply a chance to celebrate her ancestors. Now it was to honor those who had passed on during her lifetime. It had once been just her mother, but now...now she would have another lantern to light. Another soul to honor. Lan Canicus had been the one to tie the Powereds together. She had been a bright light to guide them. And then...she'd been extinguished. She'd been to Lan's funeral, but she wanted to honor the senshi in a way that didn't seem so...harsh. Yes, Obon dealt with death and spirits. But it had a gentleness to it. The way it was handled made loss a little less sharp. But...Kaida COULDN'T go to Kyoto. Not with the missing faces she knew were Powered. Not with the fact...not with the fact she was still reeling from Halloween.
She would observe Obon in Celeste. Alais would be staying behind with her, while the rest of the family went to Kyoto. The blonde fidgeted with her hair a bit, an old nervous habit returning for the moment. How to do this...
Alais would definitely need to be there. She wanted at least one family member with her for it. And...maybe it was best to invite others. There were others who felt the loss of Lan, of Solar Phoenix, far more sharply than she. And...perhaps it might help anyone else that had lost friends or family to death. That hadn't quite come to terms with it. Yes...she would do that. And looking at things as they were lately...they might NEED it. She didn't want to think that way but...it was a possibility. Two more of their number gone. Taken in the heat of battle. Kaida felt guilt over the knight that had been taken on her watch, while they'd all been fighting other things.
There was another she hoped would join her on the night she would light lanterns. Demitre. Just the thought of him made her smile a bit, made her heart a little lighter. She reached a hand up to the ear with the silver and uigite ear cuff, touching the cuff gently and allowing her smile to grow. If anyone had told her she'd fall for him, she'd have giggled and thought them crazy. But he'd gone from being a friend to being...much more. Being around him was so natural, like breathing. And he made her smile and laugh. And him being around her made her...a little more confident. More able to be a leader. He was...like the earth her roots sank into. Steady and stable, helping to keep her grounded. She moved to grab her phone, sending a text to him.
'Hey...you free after sunset on the 16th of August? I've got something I want to do, and I'd like if you could be there.' And then she flopped onto her bed. She'd write up the invite-notice for CC when she woke up in the morning.
