History Ebony used to be a guardian to the world that people go to after death. The world is much like Ebony herself - beautiful, tantalizing, and everything the person could ever want. But not everybody gets in. Before they are allowed to enter, their heart is weighed on a scale against the feather of righteousness. If it outweighs the feather, then Ebony seduces them and eats their hearts. Their souls are then cast into a frightening and horrible world instead, where she reigns over them. Her own bitter soul cast her into the wretched task she has now.
Ebony lived in the 1600's. She was a woman of righteousness, kindness, and grace. She was loved by all. She was just as beautiful in life as she was in death, but her human form was different: long curly black hair and forest green eyes. When she was 26, she finally found love with a handsome man named Donovan. But another girl loved Donovan, and was jealous of Ebony. On the night before her wedding, before Ebony and Donovan could share true love's kiss, the woman murdered Ebony in her sleep.
After she died, God felt sorry for her. He loved her just as much as everybody on Earth. So he gave her an assignment: She was the guardian of the afterlife. At first Ebony enjoyed her tasks, but soon, resentment stepped in. She saw so many happy lovers reunited in her magical world, and she grew angry that she would never be able to enter the world and be reunited with Donovan. She begged God for a chance to be cast into the normal afterworld with the others, but God stayed firm. He told her she was a special person with a special purpose, and she needed to honor that gracefully. He told her she could handle it.
Soon, she stopped believing in love and grew into a monster. God distanced himself from her and never speaks to her. She turned into a succubus, who fed on the hearts of evil people, and sometimes even good people. She decided to reign over the horrible world of evil souls instead of the happy world of good souls. She seduced and teased and had sex with many, but never loved again.
Horns Her horns appeared when she first started to grow resentful. Small at first, but with every passing lover she saw, they grow bigger and bigger. They are deadly and frightening, much like her bloodlust.
Pendant Her pendant was given to her by God when she was given her assignment. At first, it glowed a soft, beautiful white, like her soul. But the more angry and resentful she grew, the darker it turned. Today, it is blood red.
Eyes Her eyes change color depending on how recently she has eaten. When she is full, her eyes glow bright red like her pendant, and her beauty is sublime. But when she is hungry, her eyes are black and her beauty faded.
Wings Ebony's wings grew as a result of her desperation to want to escape the place she was in. Ironically, her wings cannot make her fly. All of Ebony's desires manifested themselves physically on her, such as her horns, and her wings are no exception.
