Home again (part 2) *rose*
Rose half-heartedly picked through the frig, to see if there was anything left cool to drink. She gave up, and got some water out of the faucet.
"At least that works." she said to herself.
Then she turned and looked. Near the pantry door, was the seldom used cellar door. Finishing her water, she set down the cup and went to the door. She turned the handle, hoping, somehow, that it would be locked. It wasn't.
She pulled the door opened and walked through the doorway. She turned on the light switch, and, of course, nothing happened. She didn't expect it to, with the power out and all, but she couldn't help but sigh. She walked carefully down the steps and into the cellar. Meager sunlight poured through a window only half a foot tall, almost blocked by tall grass that needed trimming outside. She poked around. There were two racks with wine bottles on it, and that was about it. She poked around, and found that there was a lot of leftover junk on the floor next to the staircase. She rifled through it. A floaty toy she vaugely remembered, some old shirts that looked like they'd been used for rags, and some old magazines in a box.
About to give up, rose turned back to the stairs.
"So, we ready to find out some family secrets, are we?" Luman said with a grin. He took a puff on his cig. "Then let's."
Rose watched as he walked down the stairs. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her wand.
Luman laughed.
"Dear, you shouldn't try that in here. Might start a fire." he said quite seriously.
"Who are you! How did you get in!" rose barked, not backing down. "My father-"
"Your father is as gone as your mother." Luman interrupted.
Rose gasped, and her eyes hardened.
"What have you done to my father?" she yelled at him.
Luman was on the last step of the stair now, and he paused.
"Me? Why, I did nothing to harm him." Luman stated quite truthfully. "I do, however, simply know what happened to him. I am sorry for your loss, little rose."
Rose was not convinced.
"Who are you?" she asked.
Luman stepped down onto the bottom stair, and, with a flourish, announced, "I am your Uncle Luman, Rose. Here to take care of you now that your parents are both gone." His smile held no warmth, only amusement, and Rose could see that the only thing sparkling in his eye was evil.
"You are a monster!!!" Rose screamed, as she shot three fireballs at him with her wand.
Luman jumped in the air, his demon wings allowing him to hover, and he dove at Rose.
Jumping, she spun around, her fox-tail smacking him to the side, and Rose flew up the stairs. She narrowly missed a blue fireball that was aimed at her head, and her shoulder got singed. She flew out of the cellar, and spun, closing the door with her tail. Landing, she turned to lock the door, when it burst into flame.
Rose flew again, out of the kitchen and through the parlor. She stopped to unlock the front door, and flew out into the garden. Her pets were startled to see her, but the shock did not hold them, as Luman came flying out the door, pointing an arc of blue flame towards Rose.
Kipper jumped on Rose, and they both dissappeared from sight. Niko jumped through the flame unharmed, and clung to Luman's face with her front claws, scratching his neck with her lower paws. Luman fell from the sky as he pulled the cat off his face and flung her far away. As soon as he landed on the ground, though, he was knocked off his feet by Tuft's charge. Olay! ran around behind and gnawed at Luman's wings. As he scrambled around on the ground, lighteneing started struck him four times from the sky.
Finally off the ground, his demonwings slightly worse for the wear, he looked around. Tuft was gearing up for another charge and Niko was running full speed at him already. Olay! was not far off, and seemed to be looking for a weak spot to gnaw on.
Luman crossed his arms in front of him, and muttered something in a language no one there could understand. A blackish bluish glow emitted from him, growing quickly into a circle.
A lightning bolt struck down from the sky, and was dissapated by the blackish blueish circle. Olay! Tuft, and Niko backed away from the odd-smelling globe, and from somewhere in the air, Kipper started barking. The pets scrambled to run away, and Rose, invisible with Kipper in her arms, flew farther away, as well.
Suddenly, the blueish-blackish globe imploded, and sent shockwaves through the area. The pets were all knocked off their feet and knocked unconscious. Rose was knocked even farther away.
Rose looked wildly around her as she was sent flying backwards for miles in a matter of seconds. Kipper was knocked out of her arms alsmot immediatly, and Rose half-turned behind her in time to see the ground and a tree coming up fast behind her. Then blackness.
