Meditations and Developments
A collection of thoughts on characters from various roleplays.
Fitz, Nox Lunae: Horcrux
This is one that's needed to be done for a bit. I need to explain why Fitz has a cane and a bum leg ten years after leaving Hogwarts.

It starts with a rise in blood purity laws, which leave muggles and magical muggle offspring at a sociopolitical advantage in all lands controlled by the UK Ministry of Magic. A pure-blood Auror, Fitz has a life of distinction as a man of service to the magical community with a lengthy heritage that goes back generations. However, the one not protected by this great line of parseltongue gingers is his six-year-old daughter, Stella, a half-blood child born to a Parisian muggle by the name of Lucille Delavergne. Born from a drunken one night stand, Stella did not act as a miracle to bind her parents together, who are by and large still distant emotionally as they are physically. A portion of his earnings are anonymously wired to the Delavergne household monthly, both for the benefit of his daughter and her mother, but he refuses all contact with them outside of those short days of unofficial custody he reserves for Stella.

When she was conceived, Fitz had just made it to the other side of Auror training and was well on his way to making a name for himself along with his partner, Franky McGrath. However, after Stella was born, the political climate grew steadily worse and he found himself constantly fearful for her safety. Hours upon hours of study in the latest and earliest hours of the day were dedicated to finding a way to assure her safety no matter what. Horcruxes fell into a grey area between "right" and "wrong" on his moral scale, an idea passed to him through a number of dubious means. In weeks, he had the plan devised. During a mission to recapture a criminal dead or alive, he constructed the spell and executed it in private, using the soul of the murdered criminal to fracture his soul, which he imparted upon his slowly aging white cat, Oschka, a goliath of a domesticated feline that had once been the adored pet of his twin sister.

All horcruxes come with a price. That day, after the cat was enchanted, Fitz lost hours to intense agony stemming from pain in his legs. His right leg rapidly weakened as muscles deteriorated and bone became brittle like glass. In addition, the left seemed slightly altered in structure, but not to any great level of severity in consideration to the fact that it remained entirely functional. In comparison the right became and has remained, incredibly weak, no longer capable of supporting his muscular upper half. In the six years following this development, he has had to teach himself how to function with a cane, which is still a vast inconvenience.

Despite this, Oschka has gone on to become Stella's constant companion, perpetually youthful as if reinvigorated in her new role as a guardian and a horcrux. The hope of having her stay at Stella's side is that she will be able to use Fitz's own power to protect her from harm by whatever means necessary. Lucille is understandably wary. Fitz, a powerful wizard in his own right, finds himself much more readily capable of spells when in the presence of his cat, even if it's so small an action as breaking eggs for breakfast or calling a teapot from the next room for teatime with Stella and uncle Vlad.
