“He’s a coward and a killer.”
“We’ve sent people after him I don’t know how many times — I’m sure it’s in the files, I don’t want to look at them right now. Every time, he survives and we lose good people. It’s senseless killing, outright. We’re supposed to detain him and bring him back, not kill him, so what gives him the right to take out our guys?”
“Here’s the creepy part: he did it by stopping their hearts.”
“He’s an auror, he knows how to wound people. We have field reports that say so much, between gouged eyes and burn wounds, but it’s like he suddenly chickened out when he got further from home. No more bloody messes, no more exploded hideouts, just cold corpses waiting to be found at every raid. There aren’t exactly any witnesses either, since he likes such remote locations. The one time we caught a hold of someone who said they saw him that day, she could only say she had sold him some wool and that (of all things) our pictures of him were out of date.”
“We’re finding dead bodies and a goat herder is suddenly our point of authority on the guy?”
“Better than the ******** we picked up in Kenya. Not a single person saw him in the two years he was there, apparently.”
“Apparently.”
“In the five years since then, we haven’t found anything either.”
“Not even corpses.”
“It’s ******** spooky to think that there’s someone like that out there somewhere.”
