Where is the justice?

I've listened to the Death Note musical and I've had song 2, 'where is the justice?', running in my brain.

In the show Kira is very much a 'get some justice' kind of guy, but the show didn't really differentiate any particular class of crime. Muggers? Cheating husband? Rich guy who runs someone over in a drunken car race but gets off cause come on he's rich? All of them. In fact if any crime is shown to be Kira's primary target it's the street level thuggery. But in the musical, the song 'where is the justice' feels very much more topical by being an argument with a lawyer about why the rich and famous go free and that the corporations are stepping on people.

And that's got me thinking about how our system currently works.

How if your company tells you to die for them (or do something stupidly risky, like running into a burning McDonalds to rescue the cash register) the company is allowed to fire you with cause (meaning no unemployment benefits and you'll have harder time finding new job.)... thank Justice Brett Kavanaugh in part for that one.

Or that because of an EPA ruling recently that companies can dump freely on tribal land. (Thanks Andrew Wheeler) Not that mercury dumped into the rivers are going to STAY on tribal land. Oh, and a few years ago Mercury dumping limits were ticked up, because apparently Mercury is a little safer for our water than it used to be. (Scott Pruitt).

Exxon Mobil recently decided it was going to up it's output (it's carbon output) by 15%, which is more than then Greece's carbon footprint just in new carbon output. And sure, that's going to cost everyone living on the planet tons to deal with, but what do they care... they are making everyone else pay for it. Or I call it stealing. They are stealing from our futures. When policies get put in place to try to reverse climate change, higher prices on things, money spent on carbon capture... when you pay the cost, know that that payment you're making is money that was stolen from you by the criminals at Exxon.

But they do it in a suit and tie, they've got high priced lawyers and the law on their side. Where is the justice?

I grind my teeth when Trump repeats the line 'When the looting starts the shooting starts'

But my bank Wells Fargo was stealing 10$ a month from me for years for me 'free checking account' without telling me. That's looting right there.

Bank of America making a 'bank error' (notice how the errors always favor them? They are REALLY GOOD at catching errors if it's in your favor) got to foreclose on people's houses and only had to pay back a few dollars that they made in error that put people into foreclosure. Not having to get them their house back or a new one. They say 'I can take your house away over 1 dollar of delinquent fee, that's the law... oh did I just make an error? Well here's your 1 dollar back. Your house? No, we sold it already, whatcha gonna do? Hire a lawyer!?'

To say nothing of the gambling that they did with everyone else's money that lead to the 2008 financial crash, then get bailed out because they are just too big to fail (they've gotten bigger since then).

There's been looting going on for far too long. People can only be crushed for so long before something snaps, and I'm not one to advocate for violence, but I'm very worried it will come. Especially worried because as much as 2nd amendment people like to say it's for the defense of our liberty... your little collection of guns ain't nothing to Exxon's private army.

Because in America we get social safety nets for the rich and rugged individualism for the poor. (I think I'm butchering the quote.)

And yeah, I have a love hate relationship with Amazon. On the one hand I do love to use it... but I really fear them because they have a virtual monopoly and that's usually bad news. I mean imagine if they were to lean on Fed Ex or UPS or some of the other fast delivery services 'don't do deliveries for AshestoRoses.com, because if you're working with our competitor you won't be getting any business from us'. Well then there goes 2 day shipping from your Amazon like storefront, but at least you can still get things shipped via the United States Postal Service... ah, but they are trying to privatize that too lately. The government being a service provider is apparently a bad thing, because having a little competition interrupts capitalism?

That's not the free market! That's just rebranding communism as capitalism.

And mr 'Nothing will fundamentally change' Joe Biden is bought by them. Both of our political parties are. Though there's a particularly virulent strain of anti democratic corporatism running through the Republican party right now, making them if anything traitors to America. Don't for a second think the Democrats are your friends.
