Well, yesterday we went to the lake to swim and have s'mores and stuff like that. When we got there, it was pretty gloomy looking, clouds and stuff. By the time we got everything out and everyone 'blocked, we caught a glimpse of lightning hitting the surface of the water. So everyone was pretty sad, we couldn't swim for the time being. It was pretty windy, so we knew the clouds would eventually disperse.
We waited about a half hour and out of nowhere, rain started pelting us. I swear, it was so cool, the drops were pretty bif, so it hurt, but it was fun. Naturally, the little kids ran for the refuge of the cars, but my mom, Patty, and I decided to ride it out.
When the rain finally stopped, we went out and stood in the water for a while.
The lightning was still about two miles away(and this is a decent-sized lake), so Mom wouldn't let us swim just yet.
About fifteen minutes later, hard rain came up again and we rode it out(for about tewnty minutes). When this wave of rain stopped, and we felt the lightning was a safe distance away(in the general direction of our town), we went swimming, roasted our marshmallows for s'mores(swam again), and drove back. All of our towels were soaking wet, so we all had to air-dry ourselves.
As we were driving back, we noticed smoke in the air. As we got closer we could smell it. When we arrived in town, we could see the thick smoke in the air. The fire was about six blocks(and down a hill) from our house! There were fire fighters and even helicopters out on the job.
My mom got pretty worried, so we all got in the car and(except for my parents) stayed the night at my grandparents' house across town.
