Continuing on from the "Journal description", this is also a place where I will make random stuff, and a place where I will show off my "artsy-fartsy" side. :XP:
A word about Sesshoumaru's Name...
MOOD: Horribly grumbly
CURRENTLY LISTENING TO: Cowboy Bebop OST - Is it Real

Ugh... Long time no write people. I guess I've been neglecting this journal for some time now. Summer vacation in a humid country can really do things to others. Anywhoo... just read the latest Inuyasha chapter, and I am proud to say that Kagome, Kikyou, and Midoriko are all working together to keep the Shikon no Tama purified. It makes me so happy to see a fangirly dream come true.

In the "Sesshoumaru-Sama Guild" I'm a part of, an issue regarding the definition of Sesshoumaru's name came up. Boy am I glad I decided to learn Kanji first. At least I'll get over all the hard stuff. So glad I can read a bit of Kanji, since I recognize Sesshoumaru's name and Kanna's. I just have to study some more and I'll understand Naraku's name, Kagura's and everyone else. ^^

As a reference, here is what I wrote in the guild:

Quote:
As a current student of kanji, I shall explain several things.]

殺 - This character means "to kill"
生 - This character literally means "birth/life"
丸 - This character literally means "round"

If you put 殺 and 生 together, in the traditional sense, it makes a word that transliterates into "Killing something that is alive". The additional 丸 means round. Truthfully, when the character 丸 is added, 殺生丸 is technically not a word. As you all know it's a name. Hence, do the math. if 殺生 means "killing something that is alive", and 丸 means "round and/or circular" Sesshoumaru's name technically means "The Killer of those that are already alive, round".

Of course none of you are happy about it. That's just fine because nobody's name in Kanji or traditional Chinese Characters makes any sense. But if you really want to take Sesshoumaru's name and turn it into a meaning, the closest you can possibly get is "The cycle of killing those that are alive".

As for "Killing Perfection", it is actually so far off the accuracy chart in the translations, I disregard all protest as to its rationality. 丸 does not mean "perfection", it means circle, round. Hence, Perfection is simply an added plus so that Sesshoumaru's name would make more sense.

In conclusion, Sesshoumaru's name technically doesn't make sense if you try to dissect it into English. Heck, no asian name makes sense when translated into English. My Korean name "Hee-Jae" means "Happy Prime Minister" in English if you look at it from the traditional character perspective. Does "Happy Prime Minister" sound remotely rational to you? Not really. If you throw in my last name "Lee" (李), it only makes things worse. The character 李 means "melon" when read in Chinese Characters. So try throwing melon into the mix, it only messes everything up even more.

A lot of you may be wondering why I bothered bringing up chinese characters, well, as many of you should know, all of Japanese KANJI is based directly off the traditional Chinese Characters. Sesshoumaru's name has no hiragana or katakana, hence I feel it is correct to add in a bit of Chinese Characters.

Sorry people, no random Inuyasha pics. I'm not using my computer, so I wouldn't have an array of beautiful Inu Tachi pics, scary Naraku, or smexy Sesshoumaru. Oh well, there's always the next entry, right? Right. Anyway, I'm out. Ja!
