Alright, for those reading this, this will be my place of ranting of the true aspects of the point of views of candy store employees and the things that really happen. I will also rant about other things that happen in regular life.
Anyways, let's begin.
Candy stores are not always as cheerful as they seem. You don't have to like or crave candy to work there. You could hate it and still work there. (Less temptation on behalf of your sweet tooth...) But the real troubles are about half the customers. One half of the troublemakers are over-protective parents. Their kids, too young to understand "Don't put your hands in the bin, it's not right.", do just that; put their hands into the candy bins.
What's wrong with this? For one, they're contaminating candy. Two, VERY occationally, a kid will take a bite of candy, then put it back. Need I explain this one? Three, they eat the candy, right away. Candy is priced on WEIGHT. If they eat it, there's less weight. It pretty much borders on stealing...no, that IS stealing!
As for the parents, half of them snap at me because they say they are watching their kids, when they aren't. If they were, their kids wouldn't be putting their hands in those bins. And another thing: I'm just doing my job keeping the candy sanitary! Don't yell at me for stoping your kids from doing the same thing that even adults do.
Another sourse of trouble are...well...people who think free-take-your-own samples are alright. No it's not! With companys like the one I work for, samples are only allowed upon request, and with the employee giving the sample. But 80% or more people just use thier hands to pick a piece of candy out of the bin and eat it. And not to mention, there are signs all over the store that say "NO SELF SAMPLING"! Also, self-sampling also borders on the grounds of stealing. Self sampling = taking candy without paying for it. Taking candy without paying for it = stealing.
Yet, what's been irking me the most lately, are the youthful troublemakers. Only a few days ago, there were this group of boys...perhaps 5 or 6 of them...in their early teens. One grabs a long belt like candy with his hands, and when I catch him, I tell him that's against the rules. 1) No touching candy with bare hands. 2) No self sampling. So I tell him to give me the candy so I can put it with spill candy (stuff that's been man-handled and dropped to the floor), but he refuses and pretty much says "I touched it, that means I should be allowed to eat it." YEAH RIGHT!!!! stare He refused to hand it over, after I kept repeating myself "You can't have it. Give it." And when I grabbed the other end of the belt, we played a few-second-long game of tug-o-war. He only got a small piece from it, but he still poped it in his mouth like his rule violations, plus insubordination and disrespect for store authority meant nothing. Like he was a god, and higher then me. So I ordered him, very firmly out of the store. Just to irratate me, he kept stepping into the store, and I kept telling him " scream Out!!". Just as I was ready to call mall security, he and his friends left. The smartest of the group looked at me and said, "Sorry about him. He's an idiot." That's the understatement of the year....
So, to the general populace, I ask a few questions. I cannot answer these myself, since I have been in the candy 'biz for 2 years and have firmly gained an employee's view. But there are things I just don't understand....
1) Why do people think taking samples on their own is alright? And using their bare fingers to boot? It's gross and can contaminate the other pieces of candy around it.
2) Why do people think eating candy they've already put in the bags is alright? Sure, it's not contaminating candy in a bin, but they're eating weight that's supposed to determine the price of what you're paying for. It borders on stealing! (Unintentional stealing, but stealing none-the-less)
Please answer me this...I want to know. I can't figure it out. confused question
