I fell slowly into a calm state, as all my troubled thoughts swam past me as if in a river, and realized I was falling asleep. At first I didn't fight it, kinda liked the idea even. But as I performed a simple sleep-protecting spell (more of a mental spell) I was immediatly made aware of all the evil that had come to lurk near me. I sat up quickly, though all that took was a straightening of my head and readjustment of my torso. That was, however, enough to cause a small freakish-looking bug near me to back up a step or two.
It looked... like a tall beetle, but with an eye for a thorax, and two vicious looking fangs. When it saw me looking at it, it shot forward. However, I merely caused the air around it to solidify, and then collapse, and dropped the crushed bug out of the air. What startled me most was the sound of movement from below. Many animal moved in after the insect fell. Probably thinking that that was me falling. I shuddered. I closed my eyes for a moment or two, and concentrated on the dark. When I opened my eyes again, they were attuned much better to the dark- a trick fox-nekos use to see fairly well in the dark. Looking down, I did shiver. Below me were monsters I'd never seen the like of before. At least a dozen of them.
And it was then that I remembered that I was lost in this forest.
I looked up into the sky, and thankfuly, it was clear. I stood up on my branch and prepared to fly off. I heard whisps around me, as if tiny things were shooting at me. Unwilling to look down and waste any more precious time, I took off. I flew straight up, through the tall canopy and finally breaking through the treetops into an almost moonless night. The sliver of a moon I saw was not yet at it's peak. I had half the night left to find someplace safe, or someplace near home.
Stretching as I hovered in the air, I scratched at my ankle. And hit something. It almost looked like a small sliver sticking out of my leg, just where my boots ended. Except for it's bright blue fletchings.
Scared as hell that I've just been poisoned, I tried to keep myself calm, so as not to hasten the poison into my system. I flew toward a distant mountain as fast as I dared.
First, my foot became numb. Then I could feel nothing below my knee. The mountain was still very distant. My thigh lost sensation, and I flew harder to try to not let my unbalanced body steer me incorrectly. My other leg started going numb about the time I felt pain in my abdomen. I was not too far from the mountain, now. I lifted my left arm and turned on my communicator finally. ANTIE's face came across the screen.
"I know this is all hard on you, Rose. But it is a part of life." ANTIE started lecturing me. That's right, I thought, I ran off.
"ANTIE...." I said, as my mid-section went numb and I struggled to retain use of my wings. "Forest." I managed, trying to keep calmness. "Deep." Sweet calmness. "Poison." I said, as I felt myself start to fall from the sky. My last words were, interestingly enough, a descrition for ANTIE, and also an exclamation of horror; "Mountain!"
I felt myself crash into the side of the mountain and I heard a bone break. It was a fairly steep section, and I grasped for a hand-hold. I felt something running down my face, and cursed loudly. Maybe ANTIE heard it, even, I don't know, because just as quickly as I was losing blood from an injury to my head, my arms were losing feeling, and I started falling and sliding down the mountain.
I looked up as I fell, and saw a swarm of vulture-like birds in the sky. Then, all was black.
