...where the wild things lurk...
Original Characters

Rain:
Physical Description/Background/Character/Story:
English schoolboy of 14 years of age. Lives with his uncle, a prosperous businessman who runs Fetropps, a worldwide marketing brandname with shady connections. His parents' whereabouts are unknown. Slightly about average height, about 5"7-5"8. Vaguely effeminate features, a slim body, more atheletic than muscular. He has eyes that seem different colours in different lights: they have been said to be green, yellow, blue, hazel and purple. In actuality he has grey eyes.
Hair is cut to the chin, it is straight and hangs down with slightly longer bangs at the front. The colour is light, mousy brown, with hints of blue where it catches the light. He is nearly always found with a black backpack on his back, a denim unbuttoned short-sleeved shirt, a t-shirt with a strange slogan, usually grey proclaiming 'DANGER' in capitals, and a vacant expression.
Rain is a day-dreamer and a bringer of bad luck. Once popular, his social standing fell after years of bringing misfortune upon him and his associates. His name, once associated with mystic and magical things, soon simply became the butt of everyone's jokes. He's a mild character and is very difficult to irritate, but once his curiousity is piqued he doesn't rest until it is satisfied.
Rain has always been intensely curious about the origins of his name and about his parents, who disappeared days after his birth. His uncle insists, when pressed, that he knows nothing about his name nor where his parents are, indeed, his uncle does not even know if they are alive or not.

Uncle "Fernie" Fernandez:
Physical description/Background/Character/Story:
A rather large man in his early forties, with dark, slightly greying hair, an often stern expression, and an impressive moustache. He does not care for Rain, exactly, although occasionally he feels a hint of compassion that enables him to show his softer side. He is not a bad man, simply prone to tempers and is uneasy dealing with children, since he has none of his own; nor ever wanted any. His work has become his life, and while he is mildly less corrupt than several of his associates, he is also fairely weak, and easily persuaded.
He is reluctant to hunt down Rain when the boy goes missing, as he knows the fate that will await him when he is found.

Midnight:
Absolutely Beautiful reference by Celestialantern: [x] [w/bg] [x] [w/o bg]
Physical description/Background/Character/Story:
An enigmatic character that rescues Rain from his uncle. Midnight is one of a race of dragon horses, Draal, that inhabit the Fzeral mountains. She has the basic body structure of a horse, with a dragons' tail and silver spines with the traditional silver dragon blades inserted into her tail and legs with her coming of age, and a silver horn. Her coat is black all over, with a white streak or blaze down the front of her nose. She wears bloodied bandages round her legs and tail where her blades pierce her skin.
Midnight is unusual in that she has black pegasus wings, a rare trait, and unique in that she has abandoned the mountains to mix with humans. Little is known about her past, but it is rumoured that she was an assasin. She also has the ability to briefly morph to human form, though she can rarely hold it for longer than an hour or so.
When she is in human form, she becomes a hispanic woman in her mid thirties, with bushy black shoulder-length hair. Her skin is slightly lighter on her face where her blaze would be if she was in horse form, and she has dark brown eyes. She dresses in black suits, knee-length skirt and long jacket, with either a white or pale coloured shirt underneath. She wears no tights nor socks, and wears high heels. She carries round a small, leather, black bag.
Midnight tells Rain that she was sent by his parents, but refuses to divulge any further information. She is a protective soul, and distrusts any than she meets. She has sworn a fierce loyalty to Rain, something he doesn't always appreciate or understand fully.

Shadow & Dragoncito
The first triplet.
Shadow is a disgraced water nymph that the group meets on their journey. She has blue skin which she conceals and dark blue, almost black eyes, with long, purple hair. She betrayed her clan and was caught, and as punishment, was stripped her her wings and nymph voice and banished to the human world. It is rumoured that she tried to find out about her past, and eventually she was linked to her mother's disgrace. Although the water-nymphs were not so cruel as to sentence her to death for her parentage, they no longer wished her to be part of the clan, and banished her.
She has befriended a small dragon of unknown origin. It is said that she changed it with the last of her magic from a dragonfly that was her friend to a real dragon, so that it could accompany her on her voyage, calling it Dragoncito.
Dragoncito has a vicious temperment to all outsiders and is very distrustful. Its only power different from other dragons appears to be the ability to grow or shrink when needed. It cannot stay long in its fully-grown form, however.

Lady Famarii
A woman of noble birth, but slightly less than noble personality. She lives alone in an impressive mansion with sweeping grounds set comfortably away from towns. She can be rather ditzy, and is a sworn bibliophile, rarely thinking of anything other than her books. She is fairly fond of her husband, but does not dwell on their situation often.
She has one blue, one green eye, with straight light brown hair, and small, chic glasses. Her brown hair is often tied loosely in a ponytail, with long strands of it hanging loose at the front. She is of average, and is generally a kind and good-natured woman.

Danielle?

Kaioso and Saioko

Shadow
The second triplet.
After Rhodan unknowingly abandoned her at the side of the stream, Shadow was discovered by one of the people of the Hitsoken, the hidden magic villages in the forest. There she was adopted and raised as a ninja.
As a ninja, she is fairly clumsy, although she is dedicated to her job, and is permenantly stuck as a fourth level ninja, out of the five levels [five being the lowest.] She also has something of a split personality: when alone at her lodgings, she can be prone to violent rages and bursts of cold temper. This has broken through before when in a fierce fight, and it makes her as much of a danger to her comrades as to herself, as she has little control over her emotions. No one so far has witnessed this and lived to tell the tale, which is lucky for her, as otherwise she would be expelled from the academy and have her ninja status renounced.
She has long purple hair and grey eyes, and often wears all black. Her favourite weapons are kunai, though she is a lousy shot.

Shadow
The third triplet.
Shadow was raised as an ordinary child by her father, Rhodan. She never asked about her mother, and was disinterested in her slight magical heritage, which greatly relieved her father.
Shadow took a great interest in science and as she grew older, founded her own laboratory. However, as her interest lay in the conceptual science rather than physical science, she was not given funding and is now the only one working at a rather dilapadated building. She conducts experiments on things such as thoughts, dreams, emotions and personality, rather than flesh and blood.
She is small for her age, due to her parentage. Her hair is naturally purple, but was dyed a messy brown in order to blend in more. Her ears are slightly pointed, and she has a slim, almost skeletal frame, especially on her back.

Lord Felnoti Hugh - A silver-haired, thin and dangerous man. He has sharp, piercing grey-blue eyes, and unusually long fingers. As tradition to his noble class, his skin is pale, yet he bares a faint silvery scar down one cheek, the only remains of an attempted assassination. He is, to the public, a cold yet diplomatically courteus lord, who revels in privacy. But in his more personal life, he is a shadow wizard who commands many spirits to do his will. He carries a strange cross-like pendant as testimony to this, and it also enables him to summon weaker spirits without use of a pentacle to do his bidding. It was thanks to this that he survived the assasination attempt before.
He is the husband of Lady Famarii, though they spend little time together, perhaps an hour every three months or so. He is often away from business, and considers her a frivolous waste of his time, though he treats her as well as he can, and knows that this arrangement does not bother her. Interestingly, though they both meet Rain's group seperately and although they start off on the wrong foot, they both agree to help them after a spell.

Baiku and Rhodan
The triplet Shadows' parents. Baiku is a water-nymph, who fell in love with a human, Rhodan, from a village near to the river where she dwelt. She dearly wished to be with him, but it ended tragically when she was discovered, and sentenced to death. She gave birth to triplets in secret, three days before her execution. Only one bore the traits of a water-nymph. She gave this one to her cousin to raise, the other two she arranged to leave with Rhodan, but the message did not reach him intact, and when he arrived, he found one child, but not the other. Thinking that there was only one child for him to raise, he returned to the village. Rhodan was a gentle and kind man, and the fate of Baiku disturbed him greatly. He vowed never again to dabble with magic, and chose to raise the third triplet as a normal child, and deny the small signs of her magic ability.
Interestingly, all the triplets were eventually named Shadow.
