...******** her. I left her there, crying in my bed again. She won't sympathise with me... she doesn't care about me. All she cares about is whoring the attention of those jock bastards. Whatever...
When I left, I went straight to work... my shift was about to begin. Not that I really felt like it, but it was better than fighting with her. Sometimes, Erin just pushed all the wrong buttons... especially last week. I'd gone with her to a party that a mutual friend of ours was throwing. We weren't there for ten minutes before she started grinding against some slack-jawed basketball player who couldn't tell a hoop from his a*****e. I nearly struck the guy, 'cept for his friends who had the pleasure of tossing me around as I approached. Bastards.
"Hey, Levy..." said my manager, Sherman as I opened the door to the grocer that employed me part-time. He was a bigger guy... had a real gut on him and his hair was thinning pretty well. Not a real intelligent fellow either, but hell... he was only the manager of a grocery store.
"Hey..." I'd said, timidly as I'd gone into the back-room to get my apron. This was going to be a slow night... It always is this time of the week. Sherman was closing up his shift on the register as I'd returned, combing the white hair hanging over my face back with my fingers as he'd went to the backroom himself. He and I exchanged very few words, seeing as how we were so generationally different. He really wouldn't understand me anyway. Nobody does.
"Try to keep busy, alright Levy?" he'd said as he stumbled by, carrying his jacket upon leaving.
"Yes, sir."
And before I knew it, he was gone... and I found myself alone amongst flowers and canned goods, like I did upon every slow night. I did intend on keeping busy though, as I pulled my cell from my pocket. It wasn't a particularly great phone, but I liked it... sleek and cute, equipped with a lovely camera and all my favorite songs from the All-American Rejects and The Used. Upon flipping it open though, I was dissappointed to see that Erin hadn't called. This was going to be another awkward night for us... ********.
As I'd put it away, the door to the store swung open slowly... and stepped in a young lady, long brown hair and tight, hip-hugging jeans. Normally, I'd find it very bleh... but she made it look good, completing the ensemble with a white haltertop fitted perfectly to her slim hips and well-endowed bosom. She drifted over, her eyes like shimmering pools of crystal as she'd parted her bold, beautiful lips to speak to me.
"Hey, Levy."
"What's up, Cassandra?" I'd replied. She was a close friend, one who I'd always turned to for advice... and even though I'd always found her plenty attractive, I'd never taken the time to really get into her. Afterall, I'd known her since we were kids. Sure, our friendship has been on and off... but she's one of few people who can even begin to know what I feel.
"Meh, I dumped Jake. You were right all along," she'd said, her voice was low, but quite feminine... very serene, like the sound of wind passing through the trees.
"Yeah, I knew you would. I told you that guy was a douche..." I'd started, once again finding myself doing the, "I told you so," role. No one listens to me, but I'm always right... I should be getting paid for how often I predict the future. If only people listened once in a while...
"I know, I know... Why don't you come over tonight? We'll pig out on ice cream and watch some more Degrassi. ...C'mon, I still haven't unwrapped season five yet, whaddya say?" she pleaded. I thought about Erin at that moment... I really should fix things up with her, but she wasn't going to listen either. At least Cassandra wanted to do something that I wanted to do... at least she cared about me.
"...Yeah, alright. Pick me up at 10? I'll probably have to close up early tonight," I'd said with a smile, as I leaned against the counter. She smiled back at me, combing her long, soft hair from her face.
"...Alright. I'll see you then, Levy... Take it easy."
