After school, I was near the park, half way home. I looked around, watching the little kids play at the park. Two kids were on the swings singing happily. And there were a few kids waiting in line to go down the slide. I heard most of them complaining. I went to see why. Then, I saw this little boy, about four years old that looked frightened. I figured he was afraid to go down the big, long slide.
“Hey”, I said walking up to the little boy, “Something wrong?” I smiled. The boy just kept on staring at me. He stuttered a bit, “I-I…I’m scared!”
I stepped onto the slide and sat down. Then, without a word, I lifted the little boy onto my lap. “Ready!?” I said smiling at the little boy. He nodded and I saw him smile a little bit. “Go!”
We both raced down the slide very quickly. At first, the little boy covered his eyes with his hands. I gently took his soft hands off his face. He looked worried at first, but then he got used to the fastness and shouted, “Whoo-hoo!” , and raised his hands up as if he were on a roller coaster.
The little boy and I slowed down to a complete stop. I lifted him off my lap and onto the ground again. I stood up and brushed myself up. The little boy stared at me until I was done wiping the dirt off. Then, without notice, he hugged me tightly. I smiled and hugged him back. He took off for another ride on the slide.
