I have been in one of the most wonderful and rollercoaster relationships ever, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Anyway, this last weekend was my boyfriend and I's one year anniversary, and he was really sweet and bought me flowers...at specifications that I had never received before. Well, he continually allowed me to torment myself by asking him what it was. However, he was unaware of the surprise I had dangling above his head.
I was scheduled to leave my igloo of a town at 9 a.m., and I landed in Chicago. I called my boyfriend and told him I was at a rather large convention and that I wasn't going to get home until much later, but that we were still on for the weekend. After we were done conversing, I found my terminal. Needless to say, I was at a severe lack of sleep and I figured I'd catch a quick nap while I waited for my Denver bound flight. Unfortunately, during my sleep, they changed the flight gate on me. Luckily I woke up in time to run to another terminal and catch my flight.
While I was in Denver, I waited for my ride to get there. We had everything planned. My boyfriend [DB] was going to be at the house and was going to take the folks to the airport once they both arrived. Fortunately, he was still taking a shower when I arrived, so I sat in the chair parallel to the staircase. He came downstairs and was talking with his father. I just sat there, staring at him, wondering if he even noticed I was there. Unfortunately, I laughed and then he just stared at me. It was a look I couldn't forget...especially the feeling of the heavy silence that filled the house.
It was by far one of the best weekends I had ever endured. Granted, the farewell was not desired. I know it hurt us both, which is probably why..whenever we bring it up, we skate around the subject, since we can see the hurt in each other's eyes, and we can hear it in one another's voice. Fortunately, we left with a piece of each other, one of which I wear around my neck day in and day out.
