Beware of the fangirl...The diary of a Gaian.
This is the diary of Dawna Celeste, just another ordinary Gaian...or is she?
Thrills, frills, chills...and spills.
It was nearly dark when we finally landed on the Isle beach. Cindy was terribly (and loudly) worried about being late, but I was thankfull to just be here. The long flight over the ocean had been more then enough of flying for me, and I decided I would never get in a helicopter again if I didn't have to. The sight of the waves breaking below us still stuck in my mind.
"No, no, leave her inside!" Cindy snapped as I grabbed my pack and Lady Luck. "She'll get lost or hurt in the mansion with all the people...and do you really need that ugly pack?"
Lady Luck seemed perfectly happy to go to sleep in the helicopter, so I left her and he pack there and scurried after Cindy and Mike, pausing only to push my glasses up my nose. They were only prop glasses with plain plastic lenses, but they had an annoying habit of sliding down my nose.
"I can't belive he built this thing so fast!" Mike was grumbling as we got to the foot of tne mansion steps.
"In one day," Cindy said. "That's unbeliveable!"
"I bet it's made of plastic and plywood," I added.
"Shh!" Cindy hissed. "Here he comes!"
And indeed the huge mansion doors were slowly swinging open. Out stepped Gambino, followed by Gino. On cue, scarlet and gold fireworks filled the sky, and over their crackling and booms, Gambino began to speak.
There's no need for me to put his whole speech in here, but I'll say that I wasn't very impressed. "Just another boastful ego trip," I wispered to Mike. "Built in one day by hyped-up workers? That'll just make it easier for the aliens to squash it or blow it up!"
"You don't have to come in if you don't want to!" Mike wispered back.
"And miss the party?" I snorted. "It's worth the risk."
Gambino finished speaking and turned to go back into the mansion. I joined the pack of guests following him in...and then...
"LIAM!" The name was shouted by two voices at once.
"Huh?" I asked as I turned around, but Moira and Vanessa didn't even notice. What they did notice was Sasha and Liam in each other's arms. Moira, Vannessa, Gino and Ian all had the same look of shocked betrayal.
"Oh dear," I muttered to myself, and hurried into the mansion before anything bad could happen.
I've got to say, the party was pretty great. I stayed away from the Red Bino, and most of the other drinks tasted awful, but the food was very good and I was pleased to discover that champagne tastes like soda water with a slight kick. Perhaps I drank a little too much of it... Well, let's say that I found myself needing to use the bathroom. Just as I was washing my hands and checking to see if my gills showed through my thick makeup (they didn't) Moira, Vanessa, and Sasha walked in. Seeing the catfight coming, I scurried out.
It wasn't much better out in the main ballroom. A waiter stumbled past with a tray of drinks, oblivious to the fact that everyone was trying to trip him up. Someone pushed me in front of him, and we both ended up on the floor.
"What kind of waiter do you call yourself?" I snarled at him, hoping the nasty-smelling drinks, which my jacket was now soaked in, wouldn't stain it. He stumbled off without answering, still being kicked at and having legs stuck out in front of him.
I sighed in disgust, snagged another mushroom pie and glass of champagne from another passing waiter, and went over to a window to sulk. It was calming to look out into the night as I sipped my drink and bit into the pie...
Suddenly the area outside was lit as bright as day! I dropped the pie, slopped champagne on my already wet clothes, and stared out the window. The unwelcome knowlage of what was going on was just starting to sink in when, BAKOOM, a hole was blasted in the roof. I yowled and charged into the milling sea of people on the dancefloor, yelling "They've come! Everybody out! This place is gonna fall down!" Of course, I was ignored, and swept into the yelling, dancing, laughing sea of people, who were bathed in light from a gigantic flying saucer which hung in the sky above us. I was silently cursing my own stupidity all the while. This place was almost certainly structularly unsound to start with, and would likely collapse at any moment. A mansion was always destroyed at Halloween... Why did I have to be in it?
It didn't look like I was going to be in it much longer. Everyone in the light was slowly floating upward towards the flying saucer, myself included. My first reaction was panic as my feet left the ground, followed be determination to make the aliens sorry for attacking my planet before they made me into soup, followed by a grudging acknowlagement that it was rather fun to be floating weightlessly up in the warm golden light, followed by horrid embaressment as I relized that my skirt was riding up, there was no way I could pull it down as I floated there, and that those not caught by the beam could see straight up it. I wished Cindy wore tights so I could have had them on!
Ian was nearly caught, but ran back just in time. But Liam was being chased by Moira, Vanessa, and Sasha, and he ran straight into the beam. He seemed to see it as an easy escape. I was glad he wasn't below me to look up my skirt. His persuers were furious at his escape, and said so loudly, with many unladylike words.
I was getting close to the spaceship, and I was starting to worry about what was going to meet me. I decided the best thing to do would be to punch the first alien i saw, and keep punching. If I was lucky, they'd have to kill me before eating me...or doing whatever they wanted to do with us. That interview had made me very sure they did not have good intentions.
But wait a sec! I wasn't going up any more. Neither was anyone else...in fact, some were floating down again. Moira, Vanessa, and Sasha were sliding across the parquet floor, and they seemed to be holding on to the beam. No, not just holding it...they were pulling it down! The tug increased from above, and I felt as if I was in a huge game of tug-of-war. But the ladies below were winning...
And then everything happened at once. There was a loud crash. I landed quite hard on the edge of what had been the dancefloor. Around me, others were doing the same. Liam and his ladies were sprawled on the floor. And in the middle of the dancefloor was the huge flying saucer that had been above us. It had come through the hole in the roof, and now the ramp was down. And down it came...the aliens.
Well, everyone knows what happened next. Gambino swanned over and welcomed the aliens to his "humble home", they interduced themselves, and Gambino welcomed the alien Mother to Gaia (as if he had the right!) while they shook hands. But the alien Mother wasn't looking at Gambino when they shook hands. She was looking out of the corner of her eye at me, as I got up from the floor. And the look was peircing, appraising, and definately curious. I was struck by the fact that that was my father shaking hands with the alien leader. I shuddered, glad I was in disguise, and stepped back into the crowd.
Things went from bad to worse from then on. Gambino and the alien Mother went off into the golden glow of the spaceship's lights, the other aliens started blending into the crowd and handing out their Zurg drinks, people started slugging them down and turning into aliens (like that interview didn't give enough warning!), aliens and humans started insulting each other, and to top it off, THE COWS GOT IN!
I'm sure Gambino didn't like the cows all over his mansion, making all kinds of messes! Soon word got round that he was giving out rewards for tipping over the cows. I was just getting over my fears enough to get into it, when someone started handing out zapper guns and wispering that there were rewards for zapping aliens too. What we didn't know was that the aliens were also giving out rewards for the people who'd drank Zurg, handing out probes and telling them to probe cows and humans. I kept myself to tipping cows, but when an alien patted me on my head, asked my name, and said I would make a cute pet and that he'd have a pet bowl made with my name on it, I started to get upset. Then his pal jabbed a probe up my nose...well, they both got zapped. And from there, it was off to the races, with an all-out battle going on. I'm still sore from the probing.
I was coming back from the bathroom a while later when I heard voices coming from behind a half-closed door. One was Gambino's, saying "So, do you like my event, Mother?"
"Indeed," the alien said. "I would like to be interduced to your daughter though."
"My daughter?" Gambino seemed confused. "I'm afraid you are mistaken. I only have a son, Gino, who you have already met."
"No," the alien said firmly. "Your daughter is here, in disguise."
"Please, Mother," Gambino said. "Let's go back to the party..."
The door opened and they stood in it, looking straight at me. "There she is," the alien said, pointing at me. "Your daughter."
Gambino opened his mouth very wide, grabbed my arm, yanked off my glasses with his other hand, and stared straight into my eyes. Then he shouted, "Dawna!" very loudly.
That was enough for me. I yanked my arm away from him, grabbed the glasses, and ran off while shoving them on. I slid down the bannister of the main staircase, then charged through the crowds and outdoors. I was down the steps and around the corner...and then I saw them. The larger figure wore armor, and was pinning the smaller one against the wall of the steps. From the sound, they were kissing. And they were Leon and Cindy. Well, so much for my thinking he'd leave her alone now!
