Just the collection of stuff and things I use when arguing in the M&R
Coming togeather in Wisdom and non judgement:
Proverbs 9
The Way of Wisdom
1 Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
3 She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 “ Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5 “ Come, eat of my bread
And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
And go in the way of understanding.
7 “ He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 “ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
The Way of Folly
13 A foolish woman is clamorous;
She is simple, and knows nothing.
14 For she sits at the door of her house,
On a seat by the highest places of the city,
15 To call to those who pass by,
Who go straight on their way:
16 “ Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”;
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 “ Stolen water is sweet,
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that the dead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of Sheol
I inturperet that as a sharing of wisdom not a shaming of sin. In which two wise people on opposing sides of a conflict can come togeather and learn, therefore becoming wiser in the spirit. While if one were to scoff at anothers inturpretation they hold the shame of their disbelief upon themselves for they refuse to open their hear and mind to alternate wisdom.
There is a difference between a wise debate and informing someone of your opinion of Gods opinion of their lifestyle.
1 Cor 6 4-8 especially 7-8
Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church![a] 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers!
7The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.
Can be used as an embellishment on that as well, Thats it's better to be wronged then to judge your brother as a wrongdoer.
Also Matt 7 Luke 6 1 Cor 4 (Who are you to judge another? you are not even to judge yourself)
Now really as well the whole "Judge not" thing didn't fully come into play until Jesus, part of the whole new Law of Agape, and Love thy enemy and Judge not.
Which then countering with something like Proverbs... I think is one of those Biblical contrasts, and honestly for Christians I think the word of Christ is to trump OT (So if the OT and the NT don't agree, then the inturpretation of the OT is either taken away or wrong because one is not reading it from the Jesus perspective of love, acceptance and salvation.
"I have not come to judge the world but to save it" wink
