PART 4
‘I love you, Neko-chan. I’m sorry.’ his body fell backwards, and she stood in awe, mouth agape. Tears fell silently down her cheeks and dipped off of her chin, splashing onto her shirt. Feral rage welled inside her and she clenched her teeth together, staring down at the ground as tears continued to fall.
“Aw, was’sa ma’er kitty? You upse’ I killed yer buddy?” he mocked in his deep voice, slurring his words together with a drunken drawl. A growl emanated low in her throat, coming from deep inside her.
“You…” she growled quietly. Clenching her fists tightly, she drew blood from her own palms.
“Was ‘sat kitty-cat? Can’ hear ya’!” he laughed at his own sick joke.
“You have stolen from me all…I have ever had.” she cried vehemently, convulsing violently where she stood. “A blundering idiot! Who knows nothing… probably at all… other than beer and cheap whores!” she raged.
“Now kitty, don’ blame me fer yer tro’bos” he said also angry, swinging his bloodied sword up and resting it on his shoulder.
“I swear… before I leave this place,” she started. “I will rip your skull straight out of your face!!” She hissed through clenched teeth, looking up to glare at him coldly. The growl grew louder as she reared low to the ground. She placed all four limbs on the ground and held her tail high in the air, ears pinned back. The bones in her hands cracked as she spread them out, digging her claws into the ground.
“Com’n Ge’ it, kitty.” he slurred pulling his mammoth sword off his shoulder. Fumiko rocketed into the air. He made a move to swing the sword at her, but she caught it easily, and threw it several yards away. She jumped up and disappeared from the lumbering giant’s view. Then he felt pressure on his back.
He swung his arms angrily at the nuisance. The cat girl grabbed onto his arms and dug her nails deeply into where she had her hands on the muscled limbs. The mammoth growled at her as his arms were stuck and she held them in place.
“What wonderful, muscled arms you have. You must’ve trained for months to get this kind of muscle mass. I wonder if you’d be very strong without them?” she asked him, causing him to turn back to her with a scared look. She pushed down with all her weight on the space between his shoulder blades, and then pulled hard on his arms. A grotesque sound of muscles being ripped off of bone and bone being cracked in two echoed from his shoulders. He screamed and Fumiko jumped off easily, kicking him hard in the face as his arms went limp and she floated towards the ground. He flew back and landed on his broken shoulders with an agonizing thump .She picked up his sword, which was now beside him, and held it menacingly above him. She stabbed it through his lower torso, making sure to split where the sun don’t shine. She walked up and placed a clawed and bloody foot on his chest, leaning on her knee and glaring at him with sadistic green eyes. She reached down with a clawed hand. A sharp deep cry echoed off the trees and around the clearing, blood spraying the ground.
Fumiko tossed the bloody skull carelessly, and hurried over to where Asuma lay.
“Asuma?” she asked trying to wipe blood off her face, “Asuma are you okay?”
“No…I got a sword through my middle…of course I’m not okay.” he replied laughing, but choking up blood.
“Asuma don’t! Now is not a time for laughing. Save your energy!” she ordered, clinging onto him desperately.
“For what? It doesn’t matter…if any energy is saved…Neko-chan, I’m not gonna go any further.” he said sadly, looking up at her with eyes that were once blue, now a glazed over gray. Fumiko shook heavily as tears fell relentlessly.
“I’m sorry!” She choked out to him. “I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you!” she sat up straight and stared at him longingly. “I wish you could stay here with me forever...” her voice trailed off.
“Neko-chan I-”
“Purify!” A voice called from in the distance. Asuma’s half closed eyes widened and turned toward the source. An angry whistle echoed in the fading light as clouds loomed overhead.
“Fumiko, get down!” he ordered.
“Wha- Why?” she started. He bolted upright and threw himself in front of her.
Thunk. His body slumped over, as did the body of the attacker. Fumiko caught him in her arms and looked down flabbergasted. The shaft of a glowing white arrow protruded from Asuma’s heart.
“N…no…”she whispered, “No! No, no, no, NO, NO!!” she screamed, “Why couldn’t you let me go with you!?” she screamed frantically. “I don’t want to stay here alone!!” she howled. She set him down gently, but stood up with angered fervor. She walked ten paces away and furiously dug with her hands and sharp nails. When she was satisfied she went over to his body and picked him up delicately. She cradled him in her arms before walking over and setting him gently in the deep hole. She went and found his sword and bow, also managing to find his quiver.
She knelt before him and stared at him silently for a moment, tears still managing to plague her. She leaned over and placed a hand on his forehead, then slid it down and closed his eyes. She placed the handle of his long sword in his hands and folded them neatly, placing the quiver by his side and laying the fragile unstrung bow at his other side. Finally she reached down with an unsteady hand and slid the arrow of out his chest, doing it as slowly as she could manage so as not to injure him further.
She snapped the shaft of the arrow and discarded it, never tearing her gaze from Asumas still form. She noticed the fabric of his clothes had been died a deep crimson. He lay still and unmoving, something he had never done when he was alive. Even when he was sleeping he was restless. She chuckled a little, more tears coming at the thought of the memory, about when she had first met him and he had stood up in his sleep, walked all the way out of the cabin and bopped her on the back of her head where she lay watching the moon. He then proceeded to fall over onto the dirt and her, and rest his head in her lap, quietly snoring as she stroked his hair absently. She dutifully wiped the tears from her cheeks, and stood up. She refilled the whole as the rain down poured. She finished just as the earth turned to mud, and started walking.
