PART 6
She entered the cozy environment to see the bed she had slept in remade and neat, and the boy scooping soup and rice into two sets of bowls. She padded over, her long toenails clicking on the hard wood flooring. She sat down fairly far away from him, but close enough to reach out and poke him if need be. She curled her tail around and set it in her lap, pinning her ears back as she thought about previous events. He reached out with a hand and she twitched nervously. She looked down at his hand and saw a bowl sitting calmly on his palm.
“…I’m not hungry.” she said turning away from the for.
“You’ve been out cold for 3 days. You need to eat.” he persisted, pushing the of rice in her face. She looked at it disgustedly.
“Then I will eat, but only when I deem fit.” she replied, pushing the bowl away with the back of her hand.
“No! You need to eat now or you’ll starve to death within a few hours!” he said determinedly.
“Do not tempt me with so sweet an offer.” she replied, barely above a whisper. She turned a bright eyes to peer at him.
“Why’re you so eager to die?” he asked quietly, putting the bowl down on the floor in front of her.
“You should be able to tell from the sword wound on my back that I have been in battle.” she sighed, choking slightly on her words. “I lost my only comrade. The man who raised me since I was a kitten, and the only person to ever love me. I have every right to die.”
“Bull s**t!” he spat loudly, slamming down his chopsticks.
“Oh?” she asked, turning towards him.
“Yeah!” he yelled loudly. She raised a thin eyebrow. “Just ‘cause somebody you loved died doesn’t mean you should give up and kick the bucket too! Do you think he would want you to die and waste his sacrifice, just cause he was gone? Hell no! We should keep on living, so that the ones who died can watch over us in heaven.” he answered, giving her a pointedly agitated look, doing his best to console her in his own unique way. He crossed his arms over his chest, keeping a stern face.
“Fumiko.” she said simply, picking up the bowl and eating the rice slowly.
“What?” he asked dumbly, looking at her awkwardly.
“My name.” she explained, “It’s Fumiko.” he smiled broadly at the opening and pointed to himself proudly.
“The name’s Jinn! Jinn Momoshin.” he replied, but she turned her back on him. Her cold expression belied by the happy wag of her tail.
