*yawns* I should have went to bed earlier this morning. I had to wake up at 6 in the morning again, and I was dumb enough to fall asleep at midnight. Oh, well, I survived in the long run, so I guess that's all that matters.
Well, this morning wasn't so bad. I woke up, called Amber to come and pick me up, and we went to Wal-Mart around 7 in the morning. I was amazed, the place was practically empty, which is rarer than a blue moon.
See, you had to be in business attire to attend, and I had the shirt and shoes problem solved, but I had no pants. See, I bought really cheap ones around the time of Kelly and my Dad's wedding, and one day at school, they ripped as I sat down. That's not even the worst part, they ripped right down the front, so I walked like a penguin having a seizure the rest of that day. So, I was a minus for decent pants, and I had no chance during the week to get them. My dad had given me my allowance when I woke up, it was sitting on my counter. So off to buy pants we went.
Amber had a field day with the automated checker. I didn't wanna do it, it made me think they were gonna put people out of jobs with these, and I thought of Sonja bagging groceries, so I cursed it, but used it anyway, cause Amber had never seen one, "in action".
I won't do it again though. They're stupid, and always think you're trying to steal something just cause you don't put stuff in the bag properly.
Anyway, we drove to Chaparral High School, the place that used to be a women's prison or something. It didn't feel like it or look like it, but there was a weird aura about it. I don't know what it was.
Well, I had only bought the pants, so I sat in the back of Amber's car to change properly, while she waited outside. It's not an easy task, let me tell you. I struggled for a bit, but finally got out decent enough to just fix myself in the bathroom later.
Once everyone was there, including other schools (Vo-Tech had the most people, then again our school was pretty much made for this organization) we sat in the auditorium and got the low-down handed to us by the FBLA State President, VP, and Treasurer.
Basically, we were gonna sit in the cafeteria, take tests on the categories we planned to compete in during the State Competition (the tests are supposed to be almost the same as the real thing), then we were gonna participate in some workshops, then eat, then finish up the day with other stuff.
I chose three tests: Visual Basic, Computer Concepts, and Technology Concepts. VB was a pain in the a**, Amber took it as well, since we're in the same class for it at one point, and we both decided we didn't know enough to test on it again.
Computer Concepts wasn't so hard. I bet Kyle would have done really well in this area, I thought I did pretty well. Although, this test came with a good laugh. On my test sheet, at the end of Question #72. It ended with a B after the period. It was like, "Something something something data memory? b." Just like that. I think the paper helped me cheat. Besides, the answer seemed like B anyway. It was kinda creepy though.
Technology was the same thing, only it dealt a little more with the Internet. Amber decided not to take this one, she decided two tests were enough. I think she would have done alright. By the time we had finished, I was hungry and so sick of Scantrons.
Everyone who had finished was outside playing with these beachballs. The State officers had decided earlier in the auditorium it would be a good idea for each of the schools to blow up a beachball and have everyone sign it to take back to school. Everyone after the tests ended up getting into groups and playing ghetto volleyball in the quad. We ended up having a giant circle of like 6 beachballs being hit around the Chapparal High School statue.
When everyone got tired, we got summoned back to the auditorium. They were talking about The March of Dimes, saying how there was currently no money to donate for them. So they decided to have an auction.
The prize? Sitting in very comfortable seats during the awards ceremony. Not much, but it motivated people.
I love a good auction. It's bad for me though, almost worse than gambling. I just like the feeling of outbidding someone. We ended up thinking of a way to get our Teacher Advisor, Mr. Kosloske, (my Chem teacher) a spot in the "V.I.P. Chairs". We all pitched in, and ended up winning a bid of $27 to let him sit with these two obnoxious girls from some other school who the senior officers say are bitches. The looks on their faces when they saw who they had to sit with was priceless. No offense, but Mr. K's not exactly attractive.
After that, it was time to eat, and I flew to the front of the line. They had had Quizno's cater our lunch, and it came with trays of sandwiches and cookies. I don't think I tasted the food I ate so fast. Wait, yes I did, and it was most delicious. I finished fast enough to get a second helping, which did it for me. My stomach must have been smiling because it started to stretch. xp
Finally, after we had eaten, we did two workshops, on Public Speaking, and Dress For Success. The public speaking was nice, we got randomly called on by raffle to recite a poem to everyone else in the class, and they judged us on what we did right and wrong. I learned some interesting facts, like speaking from your diaphragm, and a technique to make it look like you're looking at the audience members without actually eyeballing them incase you get nervous from looking people in the eye. You have to stare at their foreheads, and it gives off the impression to the audience you're actually looking directly at them. Pretty neat.
Dress for Success was troublesome. I'm going to have to buy some professional looking outfits if I plan on going to State. There are so many requirements and rules and tricks, it's not even funny. The color of your jacket can indicate your place in the business for one thing. I had no idea colors had such significance other than looking good when they match.
Finally, when that was over, we headed back once again to the auditorium to recieve awards if we excelled in our exams against each other.
I was really suprised to find out I placed 2nd in the Visual Basic category, but didn't place high enough in the other two, which was a total shock. Amber didn't receive anything, which made me feel like crap. Amber's such a brilliant student, but tests are her Achille's Heel. She aces her math courses, but she failed the Math Proficiency. I fail my math courses, and somehow manage to scratch out a passing score. It's not very fair to her.
Once that was said and done, we took pictures, and drove home. Amber and my other friend from last year's Business Tech course, Roselia, had plans to go to a movie, but I declined, I needed to rest.
Now all I've got left is FMA tonight, then I can head to Go Club in the morning. heart
