Today was pretty sweet. I played the most amount of face to face games in one day ever, and I have no regrets to any of them. But first, what happened before Russell and I arrived.
Well, when he finally got to my house, he was only 20 minutes late this time instead of 40, so there's definetly signs of improvement. Before we headed over there, we had like 20 minutes to mess around before we had to be there, so I got some Panda Express and fed Russ a few Pot Stickers.
While we had been on the bus, Russell was amazed at that big a** Tower Records/Good Guys store nearby, called "Wow!". The name must have intrigued him, so we set off for that store. I remembered that the new Shonen Jump should have been out by now, so I was killing two birds with one stone. Before we headed straight to the magazine rack, I of course had to check the new releases on the bookshelves first. We found a Best Seller, that nearly gave Russell a heart attack. It was a not-for-kiddies picture book, called, "The Big Book of Bunny Suicides" by Andy Riley.
I must say the book was pleasing. It was filled with very ingenious and creative ways a bunny might do itself in. This guy wasn't your average run-of-the-mill bunny destroyer. Even more popular was the long-awaited sequel, "The Return of Bunny Suicides". He carried that around while I grabbed a new copy of SJ and flipped through a Newtype.
We got to Border's with a minute to spare, and it seemed like a pretty good turnout. Our AV pal Jen came by to learn the basics, and I have to thank Nina for helping Jen get through learning and being a beginner.
I played a match against Russell, and apparently, that week he missed must have been significant, because I beat. I did hold back how happy I was, and I felt bad even for gloating on the inside.
My second game didn't fare so well, then again I was way out of his league. I resigned early, practically because I didn't feel like playing for a while.
The third game was my favorite. I played against Nina, who said she hadn't played in nearly 8 years, and was just getting back. Of course, I didn't think I had a chance, but I felt I could learn something from the game I played. For one thing, I did learn I play too hastily, I need to think more about my moves. That was a big help, and I enjoyed that so much.
We headed out when Jen left and it started to get dark, and before I went to bed I went on KGS and played a game against a beginner. He played pretty well, and it was nice to see someone learn like that, just like I did.
