---------
A young girl stared silently with wide, unblinking eyes at a light in the nearby house's window. Reaching into the pack on her back, she pulled out a hand full of sunflower seeds. And she walked on, every once in a while popping some in her mouth only to spit out the shells seconds later. She paused once more on the outskirts of a city, glaring at her reflction in a rather large house's window.
She twirled slowly, watching her black skirt slowly flair out into a circle. She tugged at on of the chain hung on it, wanting to look her best on this night of all nights. The she tugged at her silver tank top, suddenly hating the way it reminded her of her older, but better, days. She gave a sigh, and backed up, wanting to erase the image forever. And ever so slowly, she picked up an large rock and lung it at the window with all her might, watching with glee as her reflection shattered. Then, acting like any other young wrong-doer, she dashed further into the city.
During her quick dash, the force of wind acting agnst her pulled her black top hat off, her long silver hair caught the wind, looking very much like a banner of moonlight and starlight. Sooner or later, she stops and pulls out a handful of sunflower seeds, tossing them into her mouth, she casually moves on.
Who know how much longer, she steps though a doorway, not really caring where she was going, just damned sure she wasn't going to sleep on the street again. She glanged to her right. What seemed to be a dead woman was sprawled out on a couch. She arched an eyebrow and all but collapsed bonelessly into a chair near to her, her eyes searching the room with distaste.
Unsure whether to bother the seemingly dead woman, the girl left her alone, letting her eyes continue wandering the room. Then, as night continued onwards, she rubbed at her crystal blue eyes with dirty hands, trying to stay awake as long as possible. Slowly but surely, her eyes closed, her body relaxed in the warm atmosphere.
Suddenly, a soft humming filled the air as a silver and black cat pops it's head out of the bag which had somehow traveled to the floor by the foot of the chair. Mewing softly, it crawled up into the girl's lap, falling asleep instantly, having no trouble with insomnia like her master usually does.
Having closed her eyes in the loneliness of the tavern, she wasn't prepared for the sounds or smells of anyone else, but yet here were new scents in the room. What's this? she thought as the scent of the newcomer swept into her nostrils. She didn't open her eyes, her sense of smell told her nearly all she needed to know. 'Twas a female, but a dirty one in need of bathing. A cat as well? She pondered on this a few more moments before lazily opening one eye and shifting it to peer over at the newcomer. That was the only movement she made, if the other caught what she did, then she would be more than merely human. Squinting a bit she sees the small cat nestled on the girl's lap and sleeping as the girl tries to remain awake. Should I speak to her? Tell her there are rooms here she may take for the night? Caught again between indecision she inwardly curses herself and settles on making small talk. She opens her other eye and stares at the ceiling once more for a few seconds as she thought of a way to politely begin the conversation. Yes, she had to think before she spoke because most words she said to others were ones promising death and destruction, pain and suffering, torture and malice. She wasn't used to just talking, especially polite talk. Nodding ever so slightly to herself to suddenly sits up and manages to clear her throat softly as she turned her head to the other female. Her sapphire eyes piercing the others for she couldn't control what really lie beneath her calm facade. She tried to make voice soft, opposite of the harsh normality it is with anyone else. It was slightly scratchy for she hadn't spoken aloud in many a week and she nearly forgot she had a voice some days. "Hel-" She coughed a bit then tried again, "Hello." She swung her feet down off the sofa and onto the floor, it connected with a loud -thud- sound as if thunder had awakened within the tavern, though it was a clear night with a sky full of stars. She tried her best to smile as sweetly and warmly as she could, but years of cold-blooded murders and nights filled with strangled chorus' of her victims screaming made her smile wicked. A smirk of the coldest kind. Though on this occasion she was trying to present herself minus her cold heart; unfortunately, that wasn't easy with her experiences. Gazing over at the other female for another moment she didn't wait for a reply, due to the other's state of tiredness of course, she stood and walked over with a thick blanket in hand. "There are rooms for you to sleep in, but it looks to me ya might just drop dead on the walk to one. So here." She laid the blanket atop the other woman, being careful of the cat on her lap as she did this. There was a change in accent in her last words, it dropped from polite up-town speak to a southern, down-home slight drawl. Oh yes, this one definitely had connections to the southern states and it showed through her words and her voice. "Don't let the chill bite ya too hard, miss. It's harder to warm up if yer blue." She winced a bit after she finished, ashamed she couldn't keep herself from speaking with her accent. Trying to shrug it off she smiled again then walked back to her sofa, sitting down and taking a novel from a deep pocket of her cargo jeans. She cracks it open to somewhere in the near middle and begins reading silently to herself and without a word, she has deemed herself watcher over this girl she just blanketed. She didn't know that's what she did, but that's exactly what she was doing. Never before had she felt the need to play protector for anyone, but yet here she was doing just that. She didn't think about it and just kept reading.
Once a heavy sleeper, the girl wouldn’t have woken up if the dead rose to slaughter the living. But now, after living out on the streets for so long, her senses her sharp as a feline’s. She awoke at the other’s hoarse beginning of ‘hello’. She kept her eyes closed, not entirely sure she wanted to speak to the woman who’s scent smelled of whiskey and blood. The thudding of her boots hitting the floor made the girl almost wince, it was loud, even to her; like the sound of thunder after lightning’s bold strike.
The other woman’s voice slightly startled the girl, making her almost open her eyes to look her over. The voice... almost like the eyes... were windows into another’s soul. Her voice sounded so... harsh, but the words so unusually compationate.
Resisting the urge to open her eyes, the girl sat there, feigning sleep as she listened to the other’s slightly southern-sounding words. The blanket suddenly dropped onto her was a sorta pleasant surprise. When she realized the other woman had sat back down and had pulled out a book, she cracked open her eyes, glancing at the other woman curiously.
When nothing else happened, she deemed it quiet enough to fall back asleep, ready to jump up at any moment in the future to defend herself.
Before drifting into The Lands of Nothingness, known to others as sleep, she knew that there was much that needed done. Her cat fed, her daggers cleaned from their last fight; oh yes, so much that needed done. She slowly ran her right hand down the cat’s furry back, wishing thoughtfully that she knew whether to trust the elder woman.
When she was sure that she had heard book pages turning, she opened her eyes wider, intent on getting to know what the other looked like. Very much ‘in-tune’ with her accent, the woman looked like a cowgirl... well almost... there was something nearly sinister about it, even if it looked normal.
And as she closed her eyes again, spreading her thoughts down and out.... her eyes nearly opened her eyes wide in fright and uncertainty. There was so much... burning cold and what hinted at pleasure in the death of people...
She shivered slightly, the terrors hidden inside the woman much worse than her own. Determined not to act any different, she opened her eyes, smiling tight lipped at the woman, her eyes now a feverishly bright sky blue.
“Hullo ma’am. Thank you very much for the blanket. Train and I appreciate it.” She grinned in the dimly lit room, trying very hard to act like any ol’ normal person, “My name’s Ginx It’s been a while since I’ve spoken to anyone.” With that, she snuggled down into the chair, the sudden need for sleep fading with every waking moment in the other’s presence.
The cat evidently grew impatient with being under the blanket and dropped down onto the floor before leaping back into her master’s lap. The silver and black cat, now know as Train, gazed at the older woman on the sofa with insanely large, dead green-gold eyes. Ginx didn’t seem to notice that as she pulled a notebook and a pencil out of her bag. She turned to a specific page and started immediately working on something or other, her right hand moving slowly across the page
